  • In this paper, we have investigated the output characteristics of the Stokes Raman laser in hydrogen, deuterium, and their mixed gases as a function of the incident pump energy and gas pressure using KrF excimer laser as pumping source for generating the differential absorption lidar (DIAL) wavelengths suitable in measuring the ozone concentration of the troposphere. The optimization results of compact excimer-Raman laser transmitter in DIAL system for the tropospheric ozone sounding at the 292 nm/319 m and 292 nm/313 nm wavelength pairs are presented. for the ozone sounding in the 4-12 km range, it has been demonstrated that the design of transmitter for DIAL lidar may be significantly simplified by the use of 292 nm/319 nm wavelength pair. The investigations of Raman scattering in the mixture of hydrogen and deuterium gases have shown that such mixture may be efficiently used for developing the multi- wavelength light sources for DIAL systems.

신세뇨관 산증 (Renal Tubular Acidosis)

  • Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a metabolic acidosis due to impaired excretion of hydrogen ion, or reabsorption of bicarbonate, or both by the kidney. These renal tubular abnormalities can occur as an inherited disease or can result from other disorders or toxins that affect the renal tubules. Disorders of bicarbonate reclamation by the proximal tubule are classified as proximal RTA, whereas disorders resulting from a primary defect in distal tubular net hydrogen secretion or from a reduced buffer trapping in the tubular lumen are called distal RTA. Hyperkalemic RTA may occur as a result of aldosterone deficiency or tubular insensitivity to its effects. The clinical classification of renal tubular acidosis has been correlated with our current physiological model of how the nephron excretes acid, and this has facilitated genetic studies that have identified mutations in several genes encoding acid and base ion transporters. Growth retardation is a consistent feature of RTA in infants. Identification and correction of acidosis are important in preventing symptoms and guide approved genetic counseling and testing.

  • Due to high oil prices and global warming problems, researching an alternative energy source and decreasing the energy usage will be the key in the future. Unlike other alternative energy sources, geothermal energy is less dependent on the surrounding environment. Geothermal energy is the ideal energy source for buildings due to the simple and space saving installation. The system is semi permanent once it is installed and this will help reduce the energy usage in controlling the climate in buildings. Geothermal energy does not emit carbon dioxide and other gases that are harmful to the environment. Therefore geothermal energy will be the key in solving high oil prices and a decrease in fossil fuels by applying the geothermal energy system to homes to counter future energy crisis.

  • Reversible solid oxide fuel cell (RSOFC) has become a prospective device for energy storage and hydrogen production. Many studies have been conducted around the world focusing on system efficiency improvement and realization. The system should have not only high efficiency but also a certain level of simplicity for stable operation. External waste steam utilization was proved to remarkably increase the efficiency at solid oxide electrolysis system. In this study, RSOFC system coupled with waste steam was proposed and optimized in term of simplicity and efficiency. Ejector for fuel recirculation is selected due to its simple design and high stability. Three system configurations using ejector for fuel recirculation were investigated for performance of design condition. In parametric study, the system efficiencies at different current density were analyzed. The system configurations were simulated using validated lumped model in EBSILON(R) program. The system components, balance of plants, were designed to work in both electrolysis and fuel cell modes, and their off-design characteristics were taken into account. The base case calculation shows that, the system with suction pump results in slightly lower efficiency but stack can be operated more stable with same inlet pressure of fuel and air electrode.

  • 30톤급 액체로켓엔진용 터보펌프에 대하여 실매질을 사용하여 성능시험이 이루어졌다. 산화제펌프와 연료펌프에는 각각 액체산소, 케로신의 실매질을 사용하고 터빈에는 고압의 상온 수소가스가 사용되었다. 터보펌프는 설계점과 탈설계점의 전 영역에서 안정적으로 작동하였고 요구되는 성능 조건을 만족 시켰으며 이로써 엔진 서브시스템 수준의 터보펌프 개발이 성능 측면에서 검증되었다고 볼 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 단일 운전으로 세 운용점에서 총 75초간 작동된 경우의 시험결과를 소개하였다. 펌프와 터빈의 성능 특성 관점에서 터보펌프 조립체의 실매질 성능시험 결과와 터보펌프 구성품의 상사 성능시험 결과가 양호하게 일치하였다.

혈액과 조직의 $CO_2$완충능 및 세포막을 통한 $H^+$농도 경사 ($CO_2$ Buffering and Hydrogen Ion Concentration Gradient across Cell Membrane in Acute Acid-Base Disturbances in Dogs)

  • The in vivo and in vitro buffer capacities of true plasma and tissue buffer capaciies were compared on dogs. Intracellular pH was determined on skeletal muscle by a modification of the method of Schloerb and Grantham using $C^{14}$ DMO. The in vivo curve for plasma or extracellular fluid has a much lower slope than the in vitro curve. The in vivo slope of skeletal muscle in the dog is approximately 20 sl. The slope for skeletal muscle in vivo falls between the in vitro and in vivo slopes of true plasma. It appears that intracellular hydrogen ion varies linearly with extracellular hydrogen ion when $CO_2$ tension is changed. Both hydrogen ion gradient and Hi/He ratio vary in skeletal muscle, with an increase in $CO_2$ tension. Infusion of 0.3N HCl gave two distinct patterns, the $H_i-H_e$ gradient decreased; and it would appear that very little hydrogen ion as such penetrated to the inside of the cells during the time of observation. Although lactic acid presumably enters the cell and the same of larger load was given as was used for hydrochloric acid, only very mild intracellular acidosis resulted, ostensibly due to metabolism of this substrate. Gluconic acid produced a more severe acidosis, both intracellularly and extracellularly, but with both of these acids the hydrogen ion gradient decreased and the $H_i/H_e$ ratio also decreased. The experiments on the dogs with hemorrhagic shock the hydrogen ion increase producing the acidosis originates inside the cells. Even so, the hydrogen ion gradient increased only very slightly in the acute experiments. This may suggest that even over short intervals of time skeletal muscle cells have a capacity to pump out hydrogen ions at a rate which maintains approximately the normal $H_i/H_e$ gradient when the source of the hydrogen ion is in the interior of the cell.

유해가스 처리를 위한 Confined Plasma Source 개발 (Development of Confined Plasma Source for Hazardous Gas Treatment)

  • 반도체 공정에서 필수적인 공정가스가 유해가스이기 때문에 이를 친환경적으로 해결하는 것이 필수과제이다. 현재 반도체 공정에서 사용되는 세정기술은 대부분이 1970년대 개발된 과산화수소를 근간으로 하는 습식 세정으로, 표면의 입자를 제거하기 위한 SC-1 세정액은 암모니아와 과산화수소 혼합액을 사용하고 있다. 따라서 환경적 문제를 유발하며, 또한 과도한 용수 사용으로 인한 경제적 문제도 심각하다. 이러한 이유로 본 연구를 통한 개발 제품은 챔버 출구에서 나오는 공정 유해가스를 진공펌프에 입력되기 전 가스를 분해하여 해가 없는 가스로 만들거나 소각과 동시에 펌프에 가스의 성분이 증착되어 반도체 공정의 환경적 문제를 해결하고자 한다. 본 논문에서는 반도제 공정에서 필수 불가결하게 사용되는 유해가스(N2, CF4, SF6⋯. 등)를 사람에게 무해한 가스로 치환하거나 플라스마로 소각하여 환경을 살리고 생산성 향상이 되도록 제안된 CPS (Confined Plasma Source)를 연구하고자 한다.

프로톤 전도성 SrCe0.95Gd0.05O3-α-Ce0.9Gd0.1O2-β 복합체 멤브레인의 수소투과 특성 (Hydrogen Permeation of SrCe0.95Gd0.05O3-α-Ce0.9Gd0.1O2-β Proton-Conducting Ceramic Membranes)

  • Proton conductors have attracted considerable attention for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), hydrogen pump, gas sensor, and membrane separators. Doped $SrCeO_3$ exhibits appreciable proton conductivity in hydrogen-containing atmosphere at high temperature. However commercial realization has been hampered due to the reactivity of $SrCeO_3$ with $CO_2$. The chemical stability and proton conductivity are dependent on dopant type. The purpose of this work is to investigate chemical stability of $SrCe_{0.95}Gd_{0.05}O_{3-\alpha}-Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{2-\beta}$ composites in $CO_2$ and $H_2$ gases. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was performed in gaseous $CO_2$ and electrical conductivity of the composites were also measured between 500 and $900^{\circ}C$ in air and $H_2$ atmosphere. $SrCe_{0.95}Gd_{0.05}O_{3-\alpha}-Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{2-\beta}$ composite membranes showed good chemical stability of in $CO_2$ atmosphere and high conductivity at hydrogen condition. The hydrogen permeation of $SrCe_{0.95}Gd_{0.05}O_{3-\alpha}-Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{2-\beta}$ composite membranes was investigated as a function of volumetric content of $SrCe_{0.95}Gd_{0.05}O_{3-\alpha}$. The $SrCe_{0.95}Gd_{0.05}O_{3-\alpha}-Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{2-\beta}$(6:4) membrane with a thickness of 1.0 mm showed the highest hydrogen permeability with the flux reaching of 0.12 $ml/min{\cdot}cm^2$ at $800^{\circ}C$ in 100%$H_2/N_2$ as feed gas.

소방 실화재 훈련에서 사용하는 압축목재 가연물에서 발생하는 유해물질 특성 (Characteristics of Hazardous Substances Generated from Combustible Compressed Wood Used during Live Fire Training for Firefighters)

  • Objectives: To identify and investigate through qualitative and quantitative analysis the hazardous substances generated when compressed wood was burned at a live fire-training center. Methods: Four types of compressed wood that are actually used in live fire training were burned in a chamber according to KS F2271. The gaseous material was sampled with a gas detector tube and conventional personal samplers. Results: 1,3-butadiene, benzene, toluene, xylene, formaldehyde, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, carbon monoxide, and nitric acid were detected. In particular, 1,3-butadiene (497.04-680.44 ppm), benzene (97.79-125.02 ppm), formaldehyde (1.72-13.03 ppm), hydrogen chloride (4.71-15.66 ppm), hydrogen cyanide (3.64-8.57 ppm), and sulfuric acid (3.85-5.01 ppm) exceeded the Korean Occupational Exposure Limit as measured by sampling pump according to the type of compressed wood. Conclusions: We found through the chamber testing that firefighters could be exposed to toxic substances during live fire training. Therefore, firefighter protection is needed and more research is required in the field.
