As promising future energy source, hydrogen has been drawing much attention; however, it is easily leaked from the small gap in any storage container due to its find molecule size. In this study, Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS) was used for hydrogen leak detection, and feasibility of the scheme was evaluated based on different way for plasma generation. Laser power of 295 mW was required for generating plasma on metal surface to measure hydrogen atomic emission while approximately 2.5 times higher laser power was needed for plasma formation directly in the hydrogen gas stream. It was shown that peak to base ratio increased linearly with increasing the concentration of hydrogen. It can be concluded that LIBS is a viable technique for hydrogen sensing when the concentration of hydrogen is less than 5%.

Recently, the special alloy, for instance, such as Monel and Inconel, is used for valves, bolt/nuts, and fittings in semiconductor facility, FCEV(fuel cell electric vehicle) and hydrogen gas station, to reduce the hydrogen embrittlement. Even though the Monel material has high cost, it is recommended to use for the cases of ultra high pressure, ultra high leak-proof and so on. The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of Monel material within elastic limit through the comparative analysis when Monel material is extruded or drawn. As the results, the deformation of Monel material was increased as the number of pass was increased, further, the deformation of Monel material by drawing was larger than that by extrusion. In the safety factor, the case that load is less than 420kN, the plastic deformation due to drawing could be happened faster than that due to extrusion. However, the case of more than 420kN, it showed that the plastic deformation for extrusion and drawing was almost similar.

A Pd-based hydrogen membranes for hydrogen purification and separation need high hydrogen perm-selectivity. The surface roughness of the support is important to coat the pinholes free and thin-film membrane over it. Also, The pinholes drastically decreased the hydrogen perm-selectivity of the Pd-based composite membrane. In order to remove the pinholes, we introduced various surface pre-treatment such as alumina powder packing, nickel electro-plating and micro-polishing pre-treatment. Especially, the micro-polishing pretreatment was very effective in roughness leveling off the surface of the porous nickel support, and it almost completely plugged the pores. Fine Ni particles filled surface pinholes with could form open structure at the interface of Pd alloy coating and Ni support by their diffusion to the membrane and resintering. In this study, a $4{\mu}m$ surface pore-free Pd-Cu-Ni ternary alloy membrane on a porous nickel substrate was successfully prepared by micro-polishing, high temperature sputtering and Cu-reflow process. And $H_2$ permeation and $N_2$ leak tests showed that the Pd-Cu-Ni ternary alloy hydrogen membrane achieved both high permeability of $13.2ml{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}min^{-1}{\cdot}atm^{-1}$ permation flux and infinite selectivity.
As the proliferation of hydrogen electric vehicles accelerates, there is observed diversification in hydrogen refueling station models. This diversification raises safety concerns for different types of stations. This study conducted a quantitative risk assessment of a multi-vehicle hydrogen station, capable of simultaneously refueling cars, buses, and trucks. Utilizing Gexcon's Effects&Riskcurves Software, scenarios of fire and explosion due to hydrogen leaks were assessed. The study calculated the impact distances from radiative heat and explosion overpressure, and measured risks to nearby buildings and populations. The largest impact distance was from fires and explosions at dispensers and high-pressure storage units. High-pressure storage contributes most significantly to personal and societal risk. The study suggests that conservative safety distances and proper protective measures for these facilities can minimize human and material damage in the event of a hydrogen leak.

In order to form a uniform oxidation layer and spinel crystalline phase that has been help strong bonding in Kovar(Fe-29Ni-17Co)-to-glass sealing, the humidified nitrogen and nirtogen/hydrogen mixture was used as an oxidation atmosphere. Kovar oxidation was diffusion-controlled reaction and the activation energy was 25~32 kcal/mol at $600~900^{\circ}C.$ After oxidation at $600^{\circ}C, $ the oxidation layer was under 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness and crystalline phase was spinel which was found to be suitable for the Kovar-to-glass sealing. The Kovar-to-glass seal was carried out at $1010^{\circ}C$ and humidified nitrogen/hydrogen mixture atmosphere. Sealing properties were tested by Leak tester and SEM.
The aim of this study is to investigate the hydride embrittlement when the LBB evaluation is carried out for the integrity of PHWR Pressure Tubes. The transverse tensile and CCT tests were performed at three hydrogen concentrations while the test temperatures were changed (RT to $300^{\circ}C$). The specimens were directly machined from the pressure tube retaining original curvature. Both the transverse tensile and the fracture toughness tests showed the hydrogen embrittlement clearly at RT but this phenomenon was disappeared while the test temperature arrived over $250^{\circ}C$. Using the DHC test results, the CCL and LBB time were calculated and compared. The hydride embrittlement behavior at the LBB evaluation was definitely showed.

The aim of this study was to investigate the hydride embrittlement when the LBB evaluation was carried out for the integrity of PHWR Pressure Tubes. The transverse tensile and CCT toughness tests were performed at three hydrogen concentrations while the test temperatures were changed (RT to 30$0^{\circ}C$). Both the transverse tensile and the fracture toughness tests showed the hydrogen embitterment clearly at RT but this phenomenon was disappeared while the test temperature arrived at 25$0^{\circ}C$. Using the DHC test results, the CCL and LBB time were calculated and compared. The hydride embrittlement at the LBB evaluation made the LBB time short definedly. If the operating temperature, DHCV and LBB deterministic parameters such as A and m were known, LBB time could be estimated without the calculation of CCL.
In accordance with the revision of the Enforcement Regulations of the High-Pressure Gas Safety Management Act in February 2021, from August 27, 2021, the operation status of safety devices such as gas leak detection and alarm devices, emergency shut-off devices and flame detectors installed at hydrogen vehicle charging stations can be monitored in real time. It is transmitted and operated by the computer system managed by Korea Gas Safety Corporations. We intend to share the results of statistical analysis of abnormal signals that have occurred along with the results of the monitoring system construction so that they can be used for the safety management of hydrogen refueling stations, and to seek future safety management directions.

Acidic chemicals like sulfuric acid, nitric acid and hydrogen chloride take up 37% of the total chemical accidents which took place for the past 10 years. When an acidic chemical leak happens, fume is generated, diffusing into the air, which might cause serious damage to health of local residents and the environment. However, we have only little reference data for production and using of acidic chemicals. In this study, we investigated characteristics of production and using for acidic chemicals with high accident frequency. As a results, domestic chemical accidents were categorized according to chemical types and production, using, and handling characteristics of acidic chemicals were identified. Sulfuric acid was handled in the largest amount, followed in the order of hydrogen chloride, nitric acid, acrylic acid, and hydrogen fluoride. Sulfuric acid is used in the industry of manufacturing composite fertilizer and mainly used for manufacturing fertilizer. Hydrogen chloride is used in the industry of manufacturing basic chemicals for petrochemical family and mainly used for pH regulator. It is expected that this results could be used as preliminary data for making decisions on facilities required intensive management in order to prevent chemical accidents and prepare countermeasures against such accidents.
This study presents investigation on the technical characteristics and field cases of the salt cavern storage method for large-scale hydrogen storage. The salt cavern storage method enables effective hydrogen storage compared to other methods due to the low porosity and permeability of the rock salt that constitutes the cavern, which is not likely to leak and requires a small amount of cushion gas for operation. In addition, there is no chemical reaction between rock salt and hydrogen, and multiple injection/withdrawl cycles can be performed making it effective for peak shaving and short-term storage. The salt cavern is formed in three stages: leaching, debrining, and filling, and leakage tests are conducted to ensure stable operation. Field applications are currently performing to meet industrial demand in the surrounding area of four sites in the UK and Texas, USA, and salt cavern operation is being prepared for energy storage in European countries such as Germany and France. The investigated results in this study can be utilized as a basic guideline for the design of future hydrogen storage projects.
