  • Geotextile tubes hydraulically or mechanically filled with dredged materials have been applied in hydraulic and coastal engineering in recent years(shore protection structure, detached breakwater, groins and jetty). It can also be used to isolate contaminated material from harbor, detention basin dredging, and to use this unit as dikes for reclamation work. Recently, new preliminary design criteria supported by model and prototype tests, and some stability analysis calculations have been studied. The stability analysis of geotextile tube is composed geotechnical and hydrodynamic analysis. The stability check points are sliding failure, overturning, bearing capacity failure against the wave attack. In this paper presented the construction procedure and in-situ measurement(properties of filling material, effective height variation, stress variation at geotextile tube bottom) of geotextile tube at Young-Jin Bay and stability analysis by theoretical method and hydraulic model tests

  • The thermocapillary flow in a differentially heated cylindrical liquid bridge under steady rotation of the hot disk is considered in the limit of zero capillary number. Steady flow states and their three-dimensional stability are calculated numerically. A linear stability analysis reveals that the most dangerous perturbations are oscillatory with azimuthal wavenumber m=1 or m=2 depending on the parameters.

  • This article describes a part of collaborative research between industry and academy to develop an initial hull form of 46 feet motor yacht. Hydrodynamic performances such as stability, resistance and seaworthiness were estimated after completing the procedure of hull form design in the initial design stage.

  • 본 연구는 바닥의 형태가 오목한 이동형 소방용수 저장탱크의 수직 벽면에 작용하는 동수력을 분석하고자 수행하였다. 이를 위해 용수 공급 노즐의 위치 및 높이에 따라 다양하게 낙하한 용수로 인해 발생한 자유 수면의 출렁임을 수치 모의실험 하였다. 이때, 자유 수면의 출렁임과 수직 벽면에서의 파의 오름을 수치 모의실험하기 위해 선형 Peregrine 모델을 이용하였다. 그 결과, 벽면에서 자유 수면의 출렁임이 증폭되는 현상을 관찰할 수 있었다. 따라서 이동형 소방용수 저장탱크의 안정적인 구조를 확보하기 위해 바닥이 오목한 지형에서 사용할 경우는 소방용수 공급방법에 주의해야 함을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 볼록한 바닥면을 가진 이동형 소방용수 저장탱크의 수직 벽면에 작용하는 동수력을 계산하고 그 결과를 바탕으로 볼록한 바닥면 설계를 통한 동수력의 감소 효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 수치 모의 실험하기 위해 바닥의 형태를 볼록하게 한 수치 해석 영역을 구성하였으며, 특정 위치와 높이에 용수 공급 노즐을 위치시켜 용수를 낙하시켰다. 용수 낙하에 의한 자유 수면의 출렁임과 수직 벽면에서의 유체 벽 오름을 선형 Peregrine 방정식을 이용하여 수치 모사하고 동수력을 계산하였으며, 그 결과를 오목한 바닥면 및 동일한 해석 조건에서 얻은 동수력과 서로 비교 분석하였다. 결과적으로 오목한 바닥면 설계에 비해 볼록한 바닥면 설계를 통해 수직 벽면에서의 동수력이 더 작아짐을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과는 이동형 소방용수 저장탱크의 안정적인 구조 설계 및 운용에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

착저식 인공어초에 작용하는 파력특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Wave Forces on Artificial Reefs)

  • The methods to determine the hydrodynamic coefficients for the fixed type artificial reefs which were constructed to control ecological system in coastal waters are compared and discussed by model test results. To calculate the wave forces, least square method show good agreement with the experimental results and more stability than maximum force component method or Fourier decomposition method. This modified least square method of weighting the square of measured force turned out to be the most feasible method for maximum force. Using the feasible method, hydrodynamic characteristics for artificial reefs on uniform slopes offshore and breaking zone were studied. They were properly related to Keulegan-Carpenter's number and found larger than previous results. Wave force coefficients for artificial reefs around breaking zone were distributed from 1.5 to 2.5, and the mean value was 2.0. Drag force components were more in evidence than inertia force in maximum force which is important parameter to evaluate stability for high-permeability structures. A formula for the calculation of the maximum force for artificial reefs design is proposed, using structural dimension, water particle velocity and Keulegan-Carpenter's number.

Dynamic Analysis of a Reciprocating Compression Mechanism Considering Hydrodynamic Forces

  • In this paper, a dynamic analysis of the reciprocating compression mechanism of a small refrigeration compressor is performed. In the problem formulation of the mechanism dynamics, the viscous frictional force between the piston and the cylinder wall is considered in order to determine the coupled dynamic behaviors of the piston and the crankshaft. Simultaneous solutions are obtained for the equations of motion of the reciprocating mechanism and the time-dependent Reynolds equations for the lubricating film between the piston and the cylinder wall and for the oil films on the journal bearings. The hydrodynamic forces of the journal bearings are calculated by using a finite bearing model along with the Gumbel boundary condition. A Newton-Raphson procedure is employed in solving the nonlinear equations for the piston and crankshaft. The developed computer program can be used to calculate the complete trajectories of the piston and the crankshaft as functions of the crank angle under compressor-running conditions. The results explored the effects of the radial clearance of the piston, oil viscosity, and mass and mass moment of inertia of the piston and connecting rod on the stability of the compression mechanism.

  • 본 연구는 기 개발된 인플래터블 카약(RPO-2)과 새롭게 개발된 인플래터블 카약(RD-FK-11, RD-FK-12)의 유체역학적인 성능평가를 위하여 경사시험과 선회시험은 해양공학수조에서 저항시험은 축소된 모형선을 제작하여 회류수조에서 수행되었다. 결론적으로 각각의 카약에 대한 다양한 성능시험결과 복원성 측면에서는 KONA가 유리하고, 선회력과 무게중심 측면에서는 RD-FK-12가 우수하고, 저항성능 측면에서는 RD-FK-11이 KONA와 RPO-2에 비해 우수하였다.

Optimal design of floating substructures for spar-type wind turbine systems

  • The platform and floating structure of spar type offshore wind turbine systems should be designed in order for the 6-DOF motions to be minimized, considering diverse loading environments such as the ocean wave, wind, and current conditions. The objective of this study is to optimally design the platform and substructure of a 3MW spar type wind turbine system with the maximum postural stability in 6-DOF motions as well as the minimum material cost. Therefore, design variables of the platform and substructure were first determined and then optimized by a hydrodynamic analysis. For the hydrodynamic analysis, the body weight of the system was considered, and the ocean wave conditions were quantified to the wave forces using the Morison's equation. Moreover, the minimal number of computation analysis models was generated by the Design of Experiments (DOE), and the design variables of the platform and substructure were finally optimized by using a genetic algorithm with a neural network approximation.
