Effect of Solid Mass Inventory on Hydrodynamics Characteristics in a Circulating Fluidized Bed (순환유동층에서 유동매체량에 따른 수력학적 특성 연구)

  • This paper discusses effect of solid mass inventory on the hydrodynamic characteristics of circulating fluidized bed(CFB). Operating parameters of solid mass inventory and air flow rates were varied to understand their effects on fludization pattern. Experimental measurements were made in a CFB of which height and diameter are 3m and 0.05m respectively. Black SiC particles ranging from $100{\mu}m\;to\;500{\mu}m$ were employed as the bed material. Superficial gas velocity of riser and J-valve fluidizing velocity were in the ranges of $1.39{\sim}3.24m/s\;and\;0.139{\sim}0.232m/s$, respectively. The axial solid fraction and solid circulation rate of CFB were calculated based on the experimental data and compared with modellings through IEA-CFBC Model and commercial CFD code.

  • In this paper, the $2^{nd}$ order hydrodynamic force effect of heaving submerged circular cylinder is considered, with the linear potential theory. Boundary value problem (BVP) is expanded up to the $2^{nd}$ order by using of the perturbation method and the $2^{nd}$ order velocity potential is calculated by means of integral equation technique using the classical Green's function expressed in cylindrical coordinates. The method of solving BVP is based on eigenfunction expansions. With different cylinder heights and heaving frequencies, graphical results are presented. As a result of the study, the cause of oscillatory force pattern is analyzed with the occurrence of negative added mass when a top of the cylinder gets closer to the free surface.

  • Dynamic control tests for Backhole as a dynamic damper were performed. For the forced oscillation generated by pressure drop in the feed line and internal wave analysis of swirl injector, hydrodynamic pulsator and 1D visualization model injector was produced, respectively We focus on effect of Backhole as a dynamic damper instead of a acoustic one. So, the breakup length and film thickness of liquid sheet on the steady state and the forced oscillation state have been measured and compared.

  • Surface texturing of tribological application is another attractive technology of friction reducing. Also, reduction of friction is therefore considered to be a necessary requirement for improved efficiency of machine. In this paper attempts to investigate the effect of density for micro-scale dimple pattern using photolithography on bearing steel flat mated with pin-on-disk. We demonstrated the lubrication mechanism for a Stribeck curve, which has a relationship between the friction coefficient and a dimensionless parameter for lubrication condition. It is found that friction coefficient is depended on the density of surface pattern. It was thus verified that micro-scale dimple could affect the friction reduction considerably under mixed and hydrodynamic lubrication conditions from based on friction map. Lubrication condition regime has an influence on the friction coefficient induced the density of micro dimple.

  • This paper reports on the theoretical analysis of mixed lubrication for the piston ring. The analytical model is presented by using the average flow and asperity contact model. The cyclic variations of the nominal minimum oil film thickness are obtained by numerical iterative method. The total friction is calculated by using the hydrodynamic and asperity contact theory. The effect of the roughness height, pattern, and engine speed on the nominal minimum film thickness, friction force, ad frictional power losses are investigated. As the roughness height increases, the nominal oil film thickness and total friction force increase. Also, the effect of the surface roughness on the boundary friction is dominant at low engine speed and high asperity height. The longitudinal roughness pattern shows lower mean oil film pressure and thinner oil film thickness compared to the case of the isotropic and transverse roughness patterns.

  • Numerical analysis is carried out to identify the wall thinning effect inside the feed water valve. The finite volume method is applied to make analysis for the viscous flows. The commercial cock FLUENT is used for the simulation and the GAMBIT for the grid generation. The RNG $\kappa-\varepsilon$ model is used for the turbulence and the tet-hybrid grid is applied for the modeling. The velocity vector, the pressure contour, the change of residual along the iteration number, and the dynamic head are predicted for the hydrodynamic investigation.

Effects of Stock Characteristics on Paper Bulk

  • Paper has fibers and fines network structure and it is strongly affected by interface bonding between fibers. Depending on the inter-fiber bonding, paper bulk is determined. Fines play an important roll in Campbell and consolidation effect through wet pressing and drying operations. Refined Sw-BKP, Hw-BKP and BCTMP fines were used to investigate the fines effect. Wet-web strength, breaking length, scattering coefficient, and hydrodynamic specific volume were measured. According to the result of experiments, chemical and morphological compositions of fines do not strongly affect to wet-web forming, but strongly affect to drying operations which form hydrogen bonding among fiber-fines-fiber matrixes. Paper bulk should be controlled by the extent of hydrogen bonding between fibers during drying operations.

  • 제한수역에서 바람과 조류와 같은 외력을 받으며 항행하는 선박들 사이에는 대양에서 항행할 때와는 달리 상호간에 여러 가지 작용이 일어나면서 선박의 안전이 위협받는 수가 많다. 본 연구에서는 협수로와 같은 제한수역에서, 해난사고를 피하기 위해 요구되어지는 선박들간의 적절한 안전속도 및 안전거리를 제안하기 위해 선장비, 속도비, 풍향, 풍속, 유향 및 유속 등을 파라메타로 해서 조종운동 시뮬레이션 계산을 행하였다. 시뮬레이션 계산 결과, 두 선박 간의 상호 영향은 대형선박에 비해서 소형선박에 보다 크게 작용하는 것으로 나타났고, 속도비 1.2 의 경우가 속도비 0.6, 1.5의 경우보다 매우 크게 나타났다. 한편, 외력하에서 항행하는 두 선박에 있어서, 고속 선박에 비해서 저속 선박에 미치는 외력의 영향은 상당히 크게 작용하기 때문에 조선할 때, 이 점에 유의하여 항행해야 함을 알 수 있었다.

Effect of Dark Matter on the Collision of High Velocity Clouds with the Galactic Disk

  • High velocity clouds (HVCs) are H I clouds that move with large speed (${\mid}V_{LSR}{\mid}$ >100 km/s) in the halo of the Milky Way. It is now evident that at least some populations of HVCs originated from extragalactic sources, either primordial gas left over from the galaxy formation or gaseous material stripped off from other galaxies closely passing by the Milky Way. HVCs with extragalactic origin play an important role in the star formation of the Milky Way when they eventually collide with the disk of the Milky Way. Although it is still observationally controversial whether HVCs are surrounded by dark matter or not, it is theoretically interesting to investigate the effect of dark matter on the collision of HVCs with the disk of the Milky Way. We model this scenario by using hydrodynamic simulations and search for proper parameters that explain the currently available observations such as the Smith Cloud that is thought to have collided with the Galactic disk already.

A Study on the Fouling Effect of Geothermal Water Scale in In-line tube Bank (직렬 관군에서 지열수스케일의 파울링 영향에 관한연구)

  • An experimental study was conducted to investigate the fouling effects of geothermal water scale deposited onto a heating surface upon its forced convection heat transfer characteristics. Scales deposited onto the heating surfaces of heat exchangers seriously reduce the heat transfer perfor-mance and also increase the hydrodynamic drag. Accordingly fouling is an important problem in the design and operation of heat exchangers. The cylinders were settled in tandem with equal dis-tance between neighbouring cylinders and only the test cylinder was heated under the condition of constant heat flux. The Reynolds number was varied from 13000310 through 50003100. It is found that the heat transfer of the in-line tube banks greatly varies with the fouling of geothermal water scale especially its scale height. Further the local and average Nusselt numbers strongly depend upon the cylinder spacing and the Reynolds number.
