In this paper, we report on the growth and optical characteristics of white-LED without fluorescent material. The growth of DH(double heterostructure) with AlGaN active layer was performed on a n-GaN/(0001) $Al_{2}O_{3}$ by the mixed-source HVPE and multi-sliding boat. The CRI(color rendering index) of packaging device charged in the range 72-93 with CIE chromaticity coordinates(x=$0.26{\sim}0.34$, y=$0.31{\sim}0.40$). And CCT(correlated color temperature) values was measured $5126{\sim}10406K$ with increasing injection current. The CIE point of conventional phosphor white LED shifts blue region, but cm point of non-phosphor white LED shifts opposite direction. These results show the mixed-source HVPE can be possible to newly fabricate method of phosphor free white LED with high CRI value.

In this work, we investigated the variation of optical characteristics with the thickness of bulk GaN grown by hydride vapor phase epitaxy(HVPE) to evaluate applicability as GaN substrates in fabrication of high-brightness optical devices and high-power devices. We fabricated 2-inch GaN substrates by using HVPE method of various thickness (0.4, 0.9, 1.5 mm) and characterized the optical property with the variation of defect density and the residual stress using chemical wet etching, Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence. As a result, we confirmed the correlation of optical properties with GaN crystal thickness and applicability of high performance optical devices via fabrication of homoepitaxial substrate.
Most of the reactions involving benzotriazoles as a synthetic auxiliary have been explained by ionic mechanisms, whereas benzotriazole-mediated radical reactions have received little attention. The reaction of 1-[(aryl)(phenylseleno)methyl]benzotriazole with $Bu_3$SnH in the presence of AIBN in benzene at reflux gave 2-aminodiphenyl selenide (16-29%), 2-aminobiphenyl (9-15%), diphenyl diselenide (30-93%), 1-(arylmethyl) benzotriazole (9-39%) and tributyltin-phenyl selenide (10-36%), whereas the compounds were treated with excess molar amount of $Bu_3$SnH in the absence of AIBN to afford N-(arylmethyl)anilines (44-66%) along with diphenyl diselenide (53-100%), benzotriazole (27-35%) and 1-(arylmethyl)benzotriazole (16-33%). Similarly, treatment of 6-aryl-6-(benzotriazol-1-yl)-1-hexenyl phenyl selenides with $Bu_3$SnH in the presence of AIBN gave 6-aryl-6-phenylamino-1-hexene (9-31%) and 1-aryl-1-oxo-5-pentene (15-44%). A mechanism for the formation of the products is proposed.

There are two types of metal hydride electrodes as a negative electrode in a Ni-MH battery, $AB_2$ Zr-based Laves phases and $AB_5$ LM(La-rich mischmetal)-based alloys. The $AB_5$ alloy electrodes have characteristic properties such as a large discharge capacity per volume, easiness in activation, long cycle life and a low cost of alloy. However they have a relatively small discharge capacity per weight. The $AB_2$alloy electrodes have a much higher discharge capacity per weight than $AB_5$ alloy electrodes, however they have some disadvantages of poor activation behavior and cycle life. Therefore, in order to improve the discharge capacity of the $AB_5$ alloy electrode the Zr, Ti and V which are the alloying elements of the $AB_2$ alloys were added to the $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}$ alloy which was chosen as a $AB_5$ alloy with a high capacity. The addition of Zr, Ti and V to $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}$ alloy improved the activation to be completed in two cycles. The discharge capacities of Zr 0.02, Ti 0.02 and V 0.1 alloys in $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}M_y$ (M = Zr, Ti, V) were respectively 346, 348 and 366 mAh/g alloy. The alloy electrodes, Zr 0.02, Ti 0.05 and V 0.1 in $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}M_y$ (M = Zr, Ti, V), have shown good cycle property after 200 cycles. The rate capability of the $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}M_y$ (M = Zr, Ti, V) alloy electrodes were very good until 0.6 C rate and the alloys, Zr 0.02, Ti 0.05 and V 0.1, have shown the best result as 92 % at 2.4 C rate. The charge retention property of the $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}M_y$ (M = Zr, Ti, V) alloys was not good and the alloys with M content from 0.02 to 0.05 showed better charge retention properties.

Hydrogen forms metal hydrides with some metals and alloys leading to solid-state storage under moderate temperature and pressure that gives them the safety advantage over the gas and liquid storage methods. However, it has disadvantages of slow hydrogen adsorption-desorption time and low thermal conductivity. To improve characteristics of metal hydrides, it is important that activation and thermal conductivity of metal hydrides are improved. In this study, we have been investigated hydrogen storage properties of Hydralloy C among Ti-Mn alloys. Also, the characteristics of activation and thermal conductivity of Hydralloy C were enhanced to improve kinetics of hydrogen adsorption-desorption. As physical activation method, PHEM (planetary high energy mill) was performed in Ar or $H_2$ atmosphere. Hydralloy C was also activated by $TiCl_3$ catalyst. To improve thermal conductivity, various types of ENG (expanded natural graphite) were used. The prepared samples were compacted at pressure of 500 bar. As a result, the activation properties of $H_2$ PHEM treated Hydralloy C was better than the other activation methods. Also, the amounts of hydrogen storage showed up to 1.6 wt%. When flake type ENG was added to Hydralloy C, thermal conductivity and hydrogen storage properties were improved.

A 100 W fuel cell system using chemical storage method has been applied for a propulsion system of the SUAV(Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). A fuel cell and battery have been combined for both the small/light hydrogen generation control system and the hybrid power supply system. A small hydrogen generation device was implemented to utilize NaBH4 aqueous solution and dead-end type PEMFC system, which were evaluated on the ground and by the flight tests. The system pressurized at a 45kpa stably operates and get higher fuel efficiency. The pressure inside of the hydrogen generation control system was maintained at between 45 kPa and 55 kPa. The 100W fuel cell system satisfies the required weight and power consumption rate as well as the propulsion system, and the fuel cell system performance was demonstrated through flight test.
The Earth outer core accomodates moderately considerable amount of lighter elements than pure iron itself. Hydrogen is one of the possible candidates of minor constituents in the outer core. It would be worth while to extend for the pressure effect on the solubility of hydrogen in the metal-hydrides including iron hydride. In view of hydrogen being one of the potential substitutes for petroleum, searching a more efficient way for storing hydrogen in the form of hydrides is of considerable value. For two purposes, $TiH_2$was selected among lot of hydrides for its characteristics under pressure and temperature. There have been two kinds of experiment carried out on $TiH_2$ under different experimental conditions. As one of these attempts, polycrystalline $TiH_2$ was loaded up to 15 GPa stepwise at the constant temperature 500${\circ}$ using a piston-cylinder diamond anvil cell equipped with a miniature furnace of an electric power supply. The X-ra diffraction technique was employed on the quenched samples after the simultaneous high pressure and temperature treatments. During these high pressure-temperature runs, and irreversible phase of $TiH_2$ has been observed at the pressures higher than 11.3 GPa, which would be assigned to the orthorhombic crystal system as one of the new phase(s) of $TiH_2$. Molar volume change on this phase transition is ∼10%.
Excess tritium analysis was peformed to verify whether or not cold fusion occurs during electrolysis of heavy water in the current density range of 83~600 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for a period of 24 ~ 48 hours with use of palladium electrodes of seven different processing treatments and geometries. The extent of recombination of D$_2$ and $O_2$gases in the electrolytic cell was measured for the calculation of accurate enthaplpy values. The behavior and interaction of hydrogen atoms with defects in Pd electrodes were examined using the Sieverts gas charging and the positron annihilation(PA) method. Slight enrichment of tritium observed was attributed to electrolytic enrichment but not to the formation of a by-product of cold fusion. The extent of recombination of D$_2$and $O_2$gases was 32%. Hence the excess heat measured during the electrolysis was considered to be due to the exothermic reaction of recombination but not to nuclear fusion. Lifetime results from the PA measurements on the Pd electrodes indicated that hydrogen atoms could be trapped at dislocations and vacancies in the electrodes and that dislocations were slightly more preferred sites than vacancies. It was also inferred from R parameters that the formation of hydrides was accompanied by generation of mostly dislocations. Doppler broadening results of the Pd electrodes indicated that lattiec defect sites where positrons were trapped first increased and then decreased, and this cycle was repeated as electrolysis continued. It can be inferred from PA measurements on the cold-rolled Pd and the isochronally annealed Pd hydride specimens that microvoid-type defects existed in the hydrogen-charged electrode specimen.
Recent in the world environmental issues and energy depletion problems have been received attention. One way to solve these problems is to use hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). Therefore, the interest in HEV technology is higher than ever before. Viable candidates for the energy-storage systems in HEV applications may be absorbent glass mat (AGM) lead-acid, nickel-metal-hydride (Ni-MH) and rechargeable lithium batteries. The AGM battery has advantages in terms of relatively low cost, high charge efficiency, low self-discharge, low maintenance requirements and safety as compared to the other batteries. In order to implement HEV system in required more electric power commercial vehicles AGM batteries was connected to 2 series-2 parallels (2S2P). In this study, a one-dimensional modeling is carried-out to predict the behaviors of 2S2P AGM batteries system during charge and discharge. The model accounts for electrochemical reaction rates, charge conservation and mass transport. In order to validate the model, modeling results are compared with the experimentally measured data in various conditions.

A transport container for a 500 kCi tritium storage vessel was developed, which could be used for the transport of metal tritide from Wolsong TRF facility to a disposal site. The structural, thermal, shielding, and confinement analyses were performed for the container in a view of Type B. As a result of structural analysis, the developed container sustained its integrity under normal and accidental conditions. The maximum temperature increase of the inner storage vessel by radiation was evaluated at $134.8^{\circ}C at room temperature. In $800^{\circ}C$ fire test, The thermal barrier of container sustained the inner vessel at $405^{\circ}C after 30 min, which temperature was allowable for the container integrity since maximum design temperature of inner vessel was $550^{\circ}C. In the evaluation of the shielding, the activity of radiation was nearly zero on the outer surface of inner vessel. Consequently the transport container for a 500 kCi tritium was evaluated to pass all the safety tests including accidental condition, so it was concluded that the designed transport container is proper to be used.
