Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger (PCHE) has an advantage for exchanging thermal energy between high-pressure and high-temperature fluids because its core is made by diffusion bonding method of accumulated metal thin-plates which are engraved of flow channel. Moreover, because it is possible that the flow channel can be micro-size hydraulic diameter, the heat transfer area per unit volume can be made larger than traditional heat exchanger. Therefore, PCHE can have higher efficiency of heat transfer. The smaller channel size can make the larger heat transfer area per unit volume. But if high pressure fluid flows inside the channel, the channel wall can be deformed, the structure and shape of flow channel and header have to be designed appropriately. In this study, the design methodology of PCHE channel in high pressure environment based on pressure vessel codes was investigated. And this methodology was validated by computational analysis.

Constructed wetlands are well known as highly efficient system to treat wastewater from different sources. Among the constructed wetlands, upflow types of constructed wetlands have become a common selection of wastewater during the last decade. We conducted a pilot scale study at peen house on treating potential of nutrients by upflow vegetated filter(UVF) pilot wetland which was combined with hydrodynamic separator and used the cattail plant(Typha angustifolia), and operated with artificial nutrients influent. This study evaluate the performances of upflow vegetated fille, in removal of nutrients. The objectives of this study were two-fold: (i) to evaluate the nutrients removal performance of pilot-scale upflow vegetated filter, filled with a mixture of perlite and soil media and planted with cattails and (ii) to design of scale-up upflow vegetated filter using Froude number. Results indicated that, under the condition of the ranges of hydraulic surface load rate were $22.7{\pm}9.6\;m^3/m^2/day$, the average removal of $COD_{Mn}$, and TN, TP were 57.5%, 40.0% and 41.5%, respectively. Computational fluid dynamics, FLUENT 6.0 program was used to predict the distribution of velocity in UVF and hydrodynamic separator. Full scale UVF was designed using the Froude number scale-up method that was assumed geomertic similarity between model and prototype. Result shows that the UVF with 3 m diameter has capacity of design sewage flowrate 75 $m^3/day$.

This study conducted comparative analysis to estimate critical velocity in tunnel fire under variation of grid number and the location and size of the fire source using three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics. In the target tunnel, by one-dimensional way, the calculated critical velocity in the tunnel, 2.22 m/s was estimated, if appling hydraulic diameter, instead of the tunnel height. According to six numerical analysis, each grid number has different position, temperature, and CO concentration of back-layering. In the case of the subject, the case 1 with 0.84 million grid was found to be the most ideal. According to the location and size of the fire source, after three cases for three-dimensional numerical analysis was performed, it is resulted that the location and size of the fire source affect the critical velocity, because air velocity distribution, temperature distribution and CO concentration distribution showed different each case. This is due to the difference of heat exchange area and locations. Therefore, it is necessary to decide appropriate grid number, and the location and size of the fire source for processing techniques through comparison with actual experiment results and three-dimensional analysis.
This study intended to understand movements of turbid water in selective with drawal reservoirs before and after summer monsoon. Mean rainfall during November-May was low, compared to that during June-October. The reservoir water was discharged through watergates when previous rainfall and inflow exceeded 50 mm and $80\;m^3s^{-1}$, respectively. Intake towers were generally used except for the period of the high runoff. Average turbidity in gown-reservoir showed a difference of 29.9 NTU between premonsoon and postmonsoon. Diameter of particles of turbid water ranged between 0.435 and $482.9\;{\mu}m$. Fine particles such as clay were much denser than the larger particle. In the whole stations, clay component was relatively higher with a proportion of that in the particle distribution. Particle composition of turbid water showed that clay consisted of 94.4-98.9% and silt made of 1.1-5.6%. Analysis on turbid water movements derived from particle distribution showed a linear increase from the deep layer toward the surface layer in lower area of a reservoir. This was closely related with the hydraulic behavior of the reservoir, and heavily affected by the discharges through selective withdrawal towers and watergates. Turbid water originated from stream sediments in the middle area then resuspended in the down-reservoir causing a movement between the surface and middle layers of the reservoir. Therefore, such phenomenon needs to be understood for reservoir water quality management.

The fuel oil/heat exchanger installed in military aircraft is a device that cools the lubricant oil supplied to other devices, such as an AMAD, and a hydraulic pump using the low temperature of the fuel is cracked at the AMAD lubricant inlet port. If a crack in the heat exchanger occurs, the lubricant oil supplied to other equipment is not cooled. Therefore, the flight can no longer be performed. In this study, non-destructive inspection and microscopic examination of the fracture surface of the oil port were performed to analyze the crack tendency. The oil pipe connected to the oil port is a titanium pipe, which is fastened with over torque and has been identified as the leading cause of heat exchanger oil port cracks. In addition, it was verified as the main reason for cracking by finite element analysis. The material and diameter of the pipe were changed to improve this defect, and the applied torque was adjusted. In addition, the bending value of the pipe was adjusted to minimize the fatigue accumulation due to pulsating pressure. As a result, no cracks occurred on the heat exchanger via the ground test after the installation of an improved pipe under the same conditions.

Abatements of TN and ${NO_3}^-$-N in a horizontal subsurface-flow wetland with litter layer on its surface were compared with those without one. The wetland was constructed in 2001 on floodplain of the Gwangju Stream which flows through Gwangju City in Korea. Its dimensions were 29m in length, 9m in width and 0.65m in depth. A bottom layer of 45cm was filled with crushed granites (15~40mm in diameter) and a middle layer of 10cm had pea pebbles. An upper layer of 5cm contained coarse sands. Reeds (Phragmites australis) growing in natural wetlands were transplanted on its surface. Water of the stream was channelled into the wetland by gravity flow and its effluent was discharged back into the stream. Average Litter layer of 12.2cm was formed on its surface in 2007. The layer and above-ground parts of reeds were eliminated in April 2008. Volumes and water quality of influent and effluent of the wetland were analyzed from May to November in 2007 and 2008, respectively. Inflow into the wetland both in 2007 and 2008 averaged approximately 40$m^3$/day and hydraulic residence time both in 2007 and 2008 was about 1.5days. Influent TN concentration in 2007 and 2008 averaged 3.96 and 3.89mg/L, respectively and average influent ${NO_3}^-$-N concentration in 2007 and 2008 was 2.11 and 2.05mg/L, respectively. With a 0.05 significance level, influent concentrations of TN and ${NO_3}^-$-N, temperatures and pH of effluent, and heights and stem numbers of reeds showed no difference between the wetland with litter layer and without one. TN retention in the wetland with litter layer and without one averaged 64,76 and 54.69%, respectively and ${NO_3}^-$-N removal averaged 60.83 and 50.61%, respectively. Both TN and ${NO_3}^-$-N abatement rates in the wetland with litter layer were significantly high (TN abatement: p<0,001, ${NO_3}^-$-N abatement: p=0.001) when compared with those without one. The subsurface-flow wetland having litter layer on its surface was more efficient for TN and ${NO_3}^-$-N removal.
A sewage was treated using serially combined vertical and horizontal flow zeolite-filled reed bed. The sewage from the student dormitory of Changwon National University was fed into the reed bed for 10 minutes every 6 hours at the hydraulic load of 314 $L/m^2{\cdot}day$. The reed bed depth was 100cm and the zeolite mixture was filled in the reed bed. The mixture consisted of the same volume of two types of zeolite ; 0.5~1mm and 1~3mm in diameter. pH value decreased in vertical bed, while it increased in horizontal bed. But DO concentration in the effluent of both beds was higher than that in the influent. Average removal efficiencies of the entire treatment system were 99.22% SS, 95.56% BOD, 91.02% $COD_{Cr}$, 87.78% $COD_{Mn}$, 45.87% T-N, 99.88% $NH{_4}^+-N$ and 71.17% T-P. Most of T-N in the effluent was $NO{_3}^--N$. However, the concentration of $NO{_2}^--N$ in the effluent was lower than 0.04 mg/L. All removal efficiencies did not show a remarkable seasonal change.
A sewage was treated using serially combined vertical(VFCW)and horizontal flow sand-filled reed constructed wetland(HFCW) with intermittent feeding. The sand had 1~3 mm diameter. The sewage entering the sewage treatment plant of Gyeonsang National University was fed into the reed constructed wetland bed for 10 minutes every 6 hours at the hydraulic load of $314L/m^2{\cdot}day$ based on the surface ares of the VFCW. In the VFCW effluent pH values were lower than those of the influent, whereas they were higher than those of the influent in the HFCW. DO values were increased in VFCW, but they were decreased in the HFCW. The OTR was $58.72gO_2/m^2{\cdot}day$ in the VFCW and $7.72gO_2/m^2{\cdot}day$ in the HFCW. Average removal efficiencies were SS 94.80%, BOD 90.77%, $COD_{Cr}$ 85.87%, $COD_{Mn}$ 87.72%, T-N 64.74%, $NH_4{^+}$-N 86.44%, T-P 87.70%. Nearly, half of T-N in the effluent was $NO_3{^-}$-N but the concentration of $NO_2{^-}$-N in the effluent was less than 0.64 mg/L.

Role of the perforated pipe is to drain the water with equal pressure and velocity through the holes of perforated pipe. The perforated pipe is being used in many processes of water treatment system, however, the design parameter of perforated pipe is not standardized in korea. In this study, we have found the design parameter of perforated pipe in the water treatment system using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The uniformity of outflow from the perforated pipe is directly affected according to area ratio (gross area of holes/surface area of the perforated pipe). In other words, the uniformity of outflow is improved as area ratio is smaller. Also, at the same area ratio, the uniformity of outflow is improved as number of holes is increase. Specially, in case of the two holes per length of pipe diameter (2/D) shows the most uniformity of outflow and the best hydraulic with the smaller pressure drop. When the inlet velocity of pipe is about 0.06m/sec, the flux of pipe has decreased as from front to backward. When the inlet velocity is 3 m/s, the flux of pipe has increased as from front to backward.
Geotextile tubes hydraulically or mechanically filled with dredged materials have been applied in hydraulic and coastal engineering in recent years(detached breakwater, groins and jetty). The geotextile tubes are made of sewn geosynthetics sheets. If the sandy soil is use to fill material, these inlets should be spaced closely to assure uniform filling of the tubes because sandy soil and geosynthetic is very pervious. However, the clayey soil or contaminated slurry is used, the inlets can be located relatively long distance. The fine clayey particles tend to rapidly blind the fabric slowing down water escape through the geotextile. This paper presents a field test result of a geotextile tube in the land reclamation project for the Songdo New City construction site. The dredged silty clay was dredged by the dredging ship and hydraulically pumped into the geotextile tube. The height of geotextile tube was measured at every filling stage and also measured width and diameter of geotextile tube with the elapsed time. Based on the test results, if the clayey filling material is used, the pumping step must be divided 3~4 stages for drainage and sediment. After complete drainage, the height of the geotextile tube reduces by approximately 50%.
