The Chungpyung Dam is a 16 yearn old rock-fill dam for a Pumped storage hydro-Power plant, located in the middle of the Korean Peninsula. Since the dam is subjected to the daily water level fluctuation, such as rapid drawdown and refill, thus inducing a structural impact on the behavior of dam body, it draws attention of many engineering concerns. Traditionally, steady-state analysis was employed to investigate the seepage in the dam body, but in this study the seepage analysis was numerically performed by 2-D FEM thansient analysis. As a boundary condition for an analysis, the water level fluctuation was incorporated to simulate the daily change. As a res41t, the various seepage phenomena such as hydraulic gradient, seepage vector, and pore water pressure distribution were quantified at the corresponding time of interest as the water level rises and recedes. The seepage flux was also estimated and compared with the measured data which were both acceptable considering design criteria. The result proves that there is no sign of hazardous sources contributing to the possibility of piping, internal erosion and excess leakage through the dam body.

I/An electro-hydraulic transmission having advantages of convenience, safety, simple linking and high power, and an electronic control system were designed and fabricated. In this study, characteristics of the control system were investigated through outdoor tests for evaluation of installation of the system on a combine. Major findings were as followings. 1. Experiment for performance evaluation of the control system was conducted on concrete road. With steering lever in neutral position, driving HST swash plate and left/right wheel speed increased in proportion to driving lever angle. In case of steering control, steering swash plate angle changed in proportion to steering lever angle. This should cause increase in outer wheel speed, but it was observed that HST swash plate was controlled toward neutral to maintain the speed before steering. As a result, speed before steering was maintained despite the change in outer wheel speed by steering HST swash plate angle change. 2. It was observed that the HST system enabled steering with outer wheel maintained at constant speeds while inner wheel speed decreased, which was more stable than conventional mechanical links. In addition, for the selected 5 criteria, experiment showed satisfactory results and it was judged that installation on real vehicle would be feasible. 3. The control system showed response property of appropriate forward/reverse movement and lift/right steering, without causing any problems during experiment on concrete. Result of response property experiment on field operation also showed appropriate control over forward/reverse movement and left/right steering.

For the pitch and yaw axis attitude control of launch vehicle, thrust vector control which changes the direction of thrust during the engine combustion is commonly used. Hydraulic actuation system has been used generally as a drive system for the thrust vector control of launch vehicles with the advantage of power-to-weight ratio. Nowadays, due to the developments of highly efficient electric motor and motor control techniques, it has done a lot of research to adopt electro-mechanical actuator for thrust vector control of small-sized launch vehicles. This paper describes system design and test results of the prototype of direct drive electro-mechanical actuation system which is being developed for the thrust vector control of $3^{rd}$ stage engine of KSVL-II.

The printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) is regarded as a promising candidate for advanced heat exchangers for the next-generation supercritical $CO_2$ power generation owing to its high compactness and rigid structure. In this study, an innovative type of PCHE, in which the channel sizes for the heat source fluid and heat sink fluid are different, is considered for analysis. The thermal performance of the PCHE, with supercritical $CO_2$ as the working fluid, is numerically analyzed. The results have shown that the thermal performance of the PCHE decreases monotonically when the channel size of either the heat source channel or the heat sink channel, because of the decreased flow velocity. On the other hand, the thermal performance of the PCHE is found to be almost independent of the spacing between the channels. In addition, it was found that the channel cross sectional shape has little effect on the thermal performance when the hydraulic diameter of the channel remains constant.

A coal handling machine is a type of equipment used for loading coal, the main material in a steam power plant, along a conveyer belt from a ship, and is placed after the driving chain bucket. However, studies on the boom hoisting cylinder, which is a hydraulic system used to control the angle of the boom based on loading location, indicate that domestic models are insufficient, and are thereby often substituted with a foreign product. In this study, a technique for analyzing the contact pressure in a thick-walled cylinder was established by comparing the contact pressure, which is calculated theoretically based on the results obtained from FEM simulation, and by checking whether the working oil is leaking from the boom hoisting cylinder using a v-seal. In addition, the driving motion was simulated according to the strokes of the cylinder, and the structural stability was verified under the maximum output conditions.

Introduction of intermittent electricity production systems like wind and solar power to electricity market together with the deregulation of electricity markets resulted in numerous start/stops, load variations and off-design operation of water turbines. Hydraulic turbines suffer from the varying loads exerted on their stationary and rotating parts during load variations since they are not designed for such operating conditions. Investigations on part load operation of single regulated turbines, i.e., Francis and propeller, proved the formation of a rotating vortex rope (RVR) in the draft tube. The RVR induces pressure pulsations in the axial and rotating directions called plunging and rotating modes, respectively. This results in oscillating forces with two different frequencies on the runner blades, bearings and other rotating parts of the turbine. This study investigates the effect of transient operations on the pressure fluctuations exerted on the runner and mechanism of the RVR formation/mitigation. Draft tube and runner blades of the Porjus U9 model, a Kaplan turbine, were equipped with pressure sensors for this purpose. The model was run in off-cam mode during different load variations. The results showed that the transients between the best efficiency point and the high load occurs in a smooth way. However, during transitions to the part load a RVR forms in the draft tube which induces high level of fluctuations with two frequencies on the runner; plunging and rotating mode. Formation of the RVR during the load rejections coincides with sudden pressure change on the runner while its mitigation occurs in a smooth way.
The purpose of the present study is to develop lightweight and simple smart actuators in order to replace conventional hydraulic/pneumatic actuators, and to apply the developed actuators to the actuation systems of a small unmanned air vehicle. This research describes the procedures of design, manufacturing of the piezo-composite actuator, and the performance evaluation. From the test results of the developed devices, we found the possibility of piezo-composite actuator could be used as a control surface of a small UAV system. We have designed and manufactured two kinds of piezo-composite actuators, unimorph actuator and bimorph actuator. The manufactured actuators were evaluated through the performance testes. It was found that the bimorph type actuator showed more linear angle change for the same excitation voltage variation than unimorph type. It is expected that piezo-composite actuator has a possibility to be used not only as a control surface of small unmanned flying vehicle but also as a control surface actuator of a guided missile fin through the miniaturization of power supply and control system.

The Fuel Test Loop(FTL) which is capable of an irradiation testing under a similar operating condition to those of PWR(Pressurized Water Reactor) and CANDU(CANadian Deuterium Uranium reactor) nuclear power plants has been developed and installed in HANARO, KAERI(Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute). It consists of In-Pile Section(IPS) and Out-of Pile System(OPS). The IPS, which is located inside the pool is divided into 3-parts; the in-pool pipes, the IVA(IPS Vessel Assembly) and the support structures. The test fuel is loaded inside a double wall, inner pressure vessel and outer pressure vessel, to keep the functionality of the reactor coolant pressure boundary. The IVA is manufactured by local company and the functional test and verification were done through pressure drop, vibration, hydraulic and leakage tests. The brazing technique for the instrument lines has been checked for its functionality and performance. An IVA has been manufactured by local technique and have finally tested under high temperature and high pressure. The IVA and piping did not experience leakage, as we have checked the piping, flanges, assembly parts. We have obtained good data during the three cycle test which includes a pressure test, pressure and temperature cycling, and constant temperature.

The purpose of this study is for the sensitivity study f9r a Steam Generator Tube Rupture (SGTR) of the System-integrated Modular Advanced ReacTor for a Pilot (SMART-P) plant. The thermal hydraulic analysis of a SGIR for the Limiting Conditions for Operation (LCO) is performed using TASS/SMR code. The TASS/SMR code can calculate the core power, pressure, flow, temperature and other values of the primary and secondary system for the various initiating conditions. The major concern of this sensitivity study is not the minimum Critical Heat Flux Ratio(CHFR) but the maximum leakage amount from the primary to secondary sides at the steam generator. Therefore the break area causing the maximum accumulated break flow is researched for this reason. In the case of a SGIR for the SMART-p, the total integrated break flow is 11,740kg in the worst case scenario, the minimum CHFR is maintained at Over 1.3 and the hottest fuel rod temperature is below 606"I during the transient. It means that the integrity of the fuel rod is guaranteed. The reactor coolant system and the secondary system pressures are maintained below 18.7MPa, which is system design pressure.
The purpose of this paper is to study and analyze the failure examples for fire by friction on clutch, manual transmission and tire system in a car. In the first example, the driver took the pedal with foot to act the clutch. But the clutch disk did not return from flywheel by leakage of clutch hydraulic line. The heat was produced between clutch disk and flywheel by surface contacting. As a result, it was produced the fire by oil sludge sticked with transmission. In the second example, the transmission system was operated to transfer power of engine by contacting with gear and gear. But, as if the oil of transmission was caused the oil insufficiency because of leaking by crack of transmission case, it found the fact that was produced the fire by deposit material on transmission case. In the third example, when the car's driver continuously pushed an accelerator pedal for escaping from dry pit, the tire took the heat by the friction force between tire and surface of road. As a result, it became the direct cause for the fire. Therefore the driver must manage not to produce the fire with friction parts by heating during running.
