  • The structural integrity assessment of APR1400 (Advanced Power Reactor 1400) reactor vessel internals has been being performed referring the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulatory guide 1.20 comprehensive vibration assessment program prior to commercial operation. The program is composed of a hydraulic and structural analysis, a vibration measurement, and an inspection. This paper describes the hydraulic and structural analysis on the reactor vessel internals due to hydraulic loads caused by the turbulence of reactor coolant. Three-dimensional models were built for the hydraulic and structural analysis and then hydraulic loads and structural responses were predicted for five analysis cases with CFX and ANSYS respectively. The structural responses show that the APR1400 reactor vessel internals have sufficient structural integrity in comparison with the acceptance criteria.

  • This paper discusses automation of a small-scale hydraulic shovel and its trajectory control. To move an end-effect (grinder) along a desired trajectory, the controller uses PID(proportional-integral- defferential) control and internal pressure of hydraulic cylinder. To apply PID control in the present hydraulic system, the system model is derived physically and its system parameters are obtained by actual measurement. To show the effectiveness of the PID controller and propriety of system model, the computer simulations and experiments are performed. These results of the simulations and experiments indicate that the PID trajectory control of robotic deburring by hydraulic shovel is very effective.

  • Unsaturated hydraulic conductivity function is one of key parameters to solve the flow phenomena in problems of landslide. Prediction models for hydraulic conductivity function related to soil-water retention curve equations in many geotechnical applications have been still used instead of direct measurement of the hydraulic conductivity function since prediction models from soil-water retention curve equations are attractive for their fast and easy use and low cost. However, many researchers found that prediction models for the hydraulic conductivity function can not predict the hydraulic conductivity exactly in comparison with experimental outputs. This research introduced an inverse analysis to evaluate the hydraulic conductivity function corresponding to experimental output from the flow pump system. Optimisation process was carried out to obtain the hydraulic conductivity function. This research showed that the inverse analysis with flow pump system was suitable to assess the hydraulic conductivity in unsaturated soil, and the prediction models for the hydraulic conductivity were led to the significant discrepancy from actual experimental outputs.

  • Due to the increasing demand to utilize water fronts and water resource effectively, a multi-dimensional model that provides detailed hydraulic characteristics is required in order to improve the decision making process. An EFDC model is a kind of multi-dimension model, and it requires detailed 3D (3-dimensional) terrain in order to simulate the hydraulic characteristics of stream flow. In the case of 3D terrain creation, especially river reaches, measurement resolution and spatial interpolation methods affect the detailed 3D topography which uses input data for EFDC simulation. Such results make hydraulic characteristics to be varied. This study aims to examine EFDC simulation results depending on the 3D topographies derived by separate measurement resolution and spatial interpolation methods. The study area is at the confluence of the Nakdong and Kuemho Rivers and the event rain implemented was Typhoon Ewiniar in 2006. As a result, in the case of the area-elevation curve, the difference by means of the interpolation methods was significant when applying the same measurement resolution, except at 160m resolution. Furthermore, when the measurement resolution was 80m or above, the difference in a cross-section was occurred. Meanwhile, the water level changes between interpolation methods were insignificant by the measurement resolution except when the Kriging method was used for the 160m measurement data. Velocity changes emerged according to the interpolation methods when measurement resolution was 80m or above and the Kriging method resulted in a velocity that had a considerable gap in relation to the results from other methods at a measurement resolution of 160m.

  • The breaker noise is one of the main noise sources of construction site. It is very important to assess and measure the breaker noise accurately, because the noise labelling will be in effect January 2008 in Korea. Therefore, It is necessary to measure the sound power level of breakers and use a appropriate test method in accordance with international standard. In this study, we measure the sound power level of breakers by using the breaker noise measurement system. This system makes it possible to measure the breaker noise more accurately than to measure the noise of that attached with excavator, because this system can control main factors affecting breaker noise such as hydraulic input power, hydraulic supply pressure, breaker inlet oil flow and so on.

  • Along with the increasing need of sea development, the hydraulic stability of seabed structure on a soft seafloor ground is becoming an issue in the course of seaside development recently. However, the movement and hydraulic resistance or hydraulic stability of seafloor ground are mutually coupled with various phenomena, and there has been no clear proof for the issue, which makes it difficult to forecast. Furthermore, most researches are focused on hydraulic variables and the conditions of marine external force, while there have been few researches into the assessment in consideration of the type of a seafloor ground and the geotechnical characteristics. In addition, according to the periodic change of the flow direction, possible changes in hydraulic resistance performance of the seafloor deserves all the recognition. But there is no way to measure the hydraulic unstability of the sea ground due to tidal flow quantitatively. In this study, conventional hydraulic resistance measurement apparatus was improved to consider direction change of the current flow. Various artificial clayey soil specimens were made from Kaolinite and Jumunjin standard sand and hydraulic resistance tests were performed by changing the flow direction to validate the effect of the direction change on the scour of the seafloor.

  • The purpose of this research is to construct experimental test set-up and to establish a series of performance test program for the domestically developed hydraulic couplings, and to provide a software to store and utilize these experimental data which can be used to improve the performance of the hydraulic coupling and solve the job problems confronted during operation. The performance test consists of measurement of torque, rpm and efficiency of the hydraulic coupling for three different amounts of working fluid with various loads to the output shaft, and investigating the torque, rpm and efficiency characteristics with respect to these parameters. The results of this study can contribute to the development of variable speed hydraulic coupling and torque converter pursued by the domestic industry.

  • The relationship between hydrologic processes and scale is one of the more complex issues in surface water hydrology. Disturbances that change vegetation and/or soil properties have been known to subsequently alter the landscape. The primary objective of this study was to estimate the grain size of soils with different properties from the hydraulic conductivity using pedotransfer functions. The double ring infiltrometer method was used to measure the vertical hydraulic conductivity of three soils under different soil planar surface treatments. Seven selected pedotransfer functions were used to estimate percentile diameters and the reduction in infiltration caused by compaction was misconstrued as caused by changes in percentile diameter. Results showed that compaction on the sandy loamy foot paths reduced the hydraulic conductivity by about 50%. The study showed that perceptual models of infiltration processes and appreciation of scale problems in modeling are far more sophisticated than normally presented in texts. Hydraulic measurement methods are still relevant and will provide significant information of grain size of the soils.

  • A new hydraulic tube structure for WIM sensor of a new generation is presented in this paper. The double-tube structure has been developed in order to improve the performance of the hydraulic load cell. The double-tube structure hydraulic element could be reduced by 46% in pressure changes according to temperature compared to a single-tube structure. In addition to the nonlinearity can be reduced by 67.19% at the same load condition. The hydraulic load cell shows an excellent linearity and measurement accuracy as the result of the static load test.

  • In this research paper a hydraulic valve meter for the measurement of water pressure in fields was designed by using three dimensional automatic design program CATIA. And, also computational fluid dynamics was applied to the designed hydraulic valve meter in order to obtain flow distributions due to internal pressures. This analytical results will be provided as fundamental data in the development of new concepts of hydraulic valve meter and the hydraulic valve meter in development may reduce valve checking times and improve safety by preventing accidents earlier.
