  • The conventional MOX fuel shows adverse controllability in view of its neutronic characteristics such as decreased soluble boron worth and effective delayed-neutron fraction compared to the UO$_2$ fuel. In order to mitigate these disadvantages, we devised a new concept of the hybrid UO$_2$-MOX fuel pellet with dual structure such that its outer annular section contains. UO$_2$ fuel and its inner cylindrical bar contains MOX fuel. The lattice physics code HELIOS was used to evaluate the neutronic characteristics of three different types of fuel pellets ; UO$_2$ fuel pellet, MOX fuel pellet, and hybrid UO$_2$-MOX fuel pellet. Results show that the hybrid UO$_2$-MOX fuel pellet generally has intermediate neutronic tendency between UO$_2$ fuel and MOX which could diminish the problems arising from the use of the conventional MOX fuel.

  • Hybrid cascade multilevel PWM inverter has advantages of hybrid structure which enhances the better utilization of power semiconductor switches, that is, both hi호 power-low frequency switch, GTO and low power-high frequency switch, IGBT can be used in the same circuit. In this paper, a static var compensator using hybrid cascade 5-level PWM inverter is presented for high voltage/high power applications. The proposed system is modelled by circuit DQ transformation, and thus an equivalent circuit is obtained which reveals the important characteristics of the system and lead to the related equations. Finally, circuit structure and characteristics is presented and the validity of the characteristics analysis is shown through PSIM simulation.

  • The strengthened regulations for atmospheric emissions from ships like MARPOL Annex VI have caused a necessity of new, alternative power system in ships for the low pollutant emissions and the high energy efficiency. This paper attempts to investigate the configuration of SOFC/GT hybrid power system for LNG tanker taking into account the safety and to analyze the influence of design parameters on the system performance. The simulation results provide the basic data for the design and efficiency improvement of SOFC/GT hybrid system and indicate the guidelines for the safe system operation.

  • The increase of fault current due to large demand has caused the capacity of power machines in power grid to increase. To protect the power system effectively from the large fault current, several superconducting fault current limiters have been proposed. however, in order to apply superconducting fault current limiters into power system, there are many problems such as cost, recovery, AC loss, and cryogenic. In order to solve these problems, hybrid superconducting fault current limiter(HSFCL) was proposed. In this paper, we modeled hybrid superconducting fault current limiter using PSCAD/EMTDC and analyed fault current limiting characteristic and total resistance of hybrid superconducting fault current limiter.

  • Plate-fin type recuperators for the gas turbine/fuel cell hybrid power generating system were designed using commercial design software, MUSE. Heat transfer efficiency and total pressure drop in the recuperator were calculated to confirm required recuperator performance. Both counter flow and cross flow type plate-fin recuperators were designed. Results show that the counter flow type has higher efficiency and short core length, but the cross flow type is simpler to construct because the cross flow type does not need additional distributors. Two or three headers for the each recuperator core will be designed and tested to evaluate best header design. The designed recuperators and headers which will be designed later will be constructed, tested, and used in gas turbine/fuel cell hybrid power generating system.

  • A hybrid control of a rectifier/regulator of wireless power transfer systems for electric vehicles is studied. A combined rectifier/regulator is used for charging control. The hybrid control comprises integral cycle control and pulse width modulation control to cope with the variations in the induced voltage due to clearance and alignment. The hybrid control has good control capability and does not cause severe switching loss. A 22 kW prototype of the Wireless Power Transfer class 4 charging system defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers is constructed and tested to verify the proposal.

  • Wind energy conversion systems (WECS) which consist of wind turbines with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and full-power converters have become widespread in the field of renewable power systems. Generally, conventional diode bridge rectifiers have used to obtain a constant DC bus voltage from output of PMSG based wind generator. In recent years, together advanced power electronics technology, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) rectifiers have used in WECS. PWM rectifiers are used in many applications thanks to their characteristics such as high power factor and low harmonic distortion. In general, L, LC and LCL-type filter configurations are used in these rectifiers. These filter configurations are not exactly compensate current and voltage harmonics. This study proposes a hybrid passive filter configuration for PWM rectifiers instead of existing filters. The performance of hybrid passive filter was tested via MATLAB/Simulink environment under various operational conditions and was compared with LCL filter structure. In addition, neuro-fuzzy controller (NFC) was preferred to increase the performance of PWM rectifier in DC bus voltage control against disturbances because of its robust and nonlinear structure. The study demonstrates that the hybrid passive filter configuration proposed in this study successfully compensates current and voltage harmonics, and improves total harmonic distortion and true power factor.

  • Approximately 520thousand elevators are operating now in Korea, about 40% ~ 60% of the elevator power is generated. In this paper, by using the method of adding regeneration power of the elevator to the grid-tied photo voltaic inverter, PV generation that was dependant on the solar radiation was significantly improved. In order to confirm this, the regeneration power of the elevator has been simulated in 12% of the rating load, and measured the regeneration power of the elevator in the actual condition to assess the differences of it. The 5[kW] hybrid grid-tied photo voltaic invertor has been fabricated to conduct an experiment for the confirmation of the proposing method. The effectiveness of the proposing method has been reassured with the result of experiment that include the transfer interface part of the regeneration power of the elevator.

  • A new DC-DC power converter is researched for renewable energy and battery hybrid power supplies systems in this paper. At the charging mode, a renewable energy source provides energy to charge a battery via the proposed converter. The operating principle of the proposed converter is the same as the conventional DC-DC buck converter. At the discharging mode, the battery releases its energy to the DC bus via the proposed converter. The proposed converter is a non-isolated high step-up DC-DC converter. The coupled-inductor technique is used to achieve a high step-up voltage gain by adjusting the turns ratio. Moreover, the leakage-inductor energies of the primary and secondary windings can be recycled. Thus, the conversion efficiency can be improved. Therefore, only one power converter is utilized at the charging or discharging modes. Finally, a prototype circuit is implemented to verify the performance of the proposed converter.
