  • The interest in reducing the emissions and increasing the fuel economy of ICE vehicles has prompted research on hybrid vehicles, which come in the series, parallel, and power-split types. This study focuses on the series-type hybrid electric vehicle, which has a simple structure. Because each component of a series hybrid vehicle is larger than the corresponding component of the parallel type, the sizing of the vehicle is very important. This is because the performance may be greater or less than what is required. Thus, in this research, the optimal fuel economy was determined and simulated in a real-world system. The optimal sizing was achieved based on the motor, engine/generator, and battery for 13 cycles, where DP was used. The model was developed using ASCET or a Simulink-Amisim Co-simulation platform on the rapid controller prototype, ES-1000.

  • 방송에서의 광고의 비중이 높아짐에 따라 광고 수익을 극대화하기 위한 기술의 발전이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 최근의 이러한 광고 관련 기술들을 일반적으로 Advanced Advertising 이라고 하며 그 중 시청자의 선호에 맞는 광고만을 시청자에게 제공하는 타깃광고(Targeted Advertising) 방식 등 수신기별로 특화된 광고를 제공하는 기술을 클라이언트 기반 광고 삽입 방식이라고 한다. 북미의 인터랙티브 케이블방송 규격인 OCAP(OpenCable Application Platform)은 OCAP DPI(Digital Program Insertion) 라는 명칭의 클라이언트 기반 광고 삽입 방식에 대한 북미 일부 지역에서의 시험 방송의 성공한 후 관련 규격을 OCAP1.1-I01 에 발표하기에 이르렀다. 조만간 상용화되면 OCAP DPI 를 통해 북미 케이블방송 사업자들의 광고 수익 향상에 기여할 것은 물론이고 시청자들의 만족도를 향상시킬 것이다. 이런 움직임은 케이블 진영뿐만 아니라 Open IPTV Forum, ATSC 등 IPTV 나 지상파 TV 진영에서도 이 기술에 대한 타당성 검증 및 표준화가 논의가 활발히 진행되고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문은 클라이언트 기반 광고 삽입 기술에 대해 OCAP DPI 를 구현한 경험을 바탕으로 그 원리 및 동작을 설명하고, DVR(Digital Video Recorder) 또는 PVR(Personal Video Recorder)의 주요 기능인 스토리지에 방송스트림을 저장하고 재생하는 기능을 이용하는 광고 삽입 방법에 대해 제안하며, Cable-IPTV Hybrid 의 웹 접근성을 이용하여 웹 서버에 저장되어 관리 및 운용되는 광고컨텐츠의 스트리밍을 통한 광고 삽입 방법에 대한 제안하고, 마지막으로 실제 이러한 광고 삽입 기술을 적용하는 데에 있어 발생되는 문제점들을 언급하고 그 해결에 대한 의견을 제시한다.

Service Application Implementation using WAVE/DSRC Development Platform (WAVE/DSRC 개발 플랫폼을 이용한 서비스 어플리케이션 구현)

  • The DSRC method currently in use has a limitation in providing various ITS services by short-distance wireless communication. Therefore, the WAVE/DSRC hybrid wireless platform, which was developed by applying WAVE technology in-house, improved the data transmission speed and greatly expanded the transmission range. The summary H/W and S/W technologies are summarized in the text. In this paper, various services such as BSM, SPAT, MAP, and road video information related to ITS services have been implemented, and various tests are conducted based on scenarios considering the environment in the actual field by utilizing the previously developed WAVE/DSRC composite wireless platform. Through this emulation process in the real field, we were able to verify the excellence of the WAVE/DSRC composite wireless platform once again and predict the usefulness and potential of development services in real field operations.

Simple and Sensitive Electrochemical Sandwich-type Immunosensing of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin based on b-cyclodextrin Functionalized Graphene

  • The effective detection of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is considerably important for the clinical diagnosis of both of early pregnancy and nonpregnancy-related diseases. In this work, a simple and sensitive electrochemical sandwich-type immunosensing platform was designed by synthesizing b-cyclodextrin (CD) functionalized graphene (CD/GN) hybrid as simultaneously sensing platform and signal transducer coupled with rhodamine b (RhB) as probe. In brief, GN offers large surface area and high conductivity, while CD exhibits superior host-guest recognition capability, thus the primary antibody (Ab1) of HCG can be bound into the cavities of CD/GN to form stable Ab1/CD/GN inclusion complex; meanwhile, the secondary antibody (Ab2) and RhB can also enter into the cavities, producing RhB/Ab2/CD/GN complex. Then, by using Ab1/CD/GN as sensing platform and RhB/Ab2/CD/GN as signal transducer (in which RhB was signal probe), a simple sandwich-type immunosensor was constructed. Under the optimum parameters, the designed immunosensor exhibited a considerable low analytical detection of 1.0 pg mL-1 and a wide linearity of 0.002 to 10.0 ng mL-1 for HCG, revealing the developed sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensing platform offered potential real applications for the determination of HCG.

  • This study explored the effect of ASR-based pronunciation instruction, using a mobile platform, on EFL learners' pronunciation development. Particularly, this quasi-experimental study focused on whether using mobile ASR, which provides voice-to-text feedback, can enhance the perception and production of target English consonants minimal pairs (V-B, R-L, and G-Z) of Korean EFL learners. Three intact classes of 117 Korean university students were assigned to three groups: a) ASR Group: ASR-based pronunciation instruction providing textual feedback by the mobile ASR; b) Conventional Group: conventional face-to-face pronunciation instruction providing individual oral feedback by the instructor; and the c) Hybrid Group: ASR-based pronunciation instruction plus conventional pronunciation instruction. The ANCOVA results showed that the adjusted mean score for pronunciation production post-test on the Hybrid instruction group (M=82.71, SD =3.3) was significantly higher than the Conventional group (M=62.6, SD =4.05) (p<.05).

  • In the case of personal information files containing personal information, there is insufficient awareness of personal information protection in end-point areas such as personal computers, smart terminals, and personal storage devices. In this study, we use Diffie-Hellman method to securely retrieve personal information files generated by web crawler. We designed SEED and ARIA using hybrid slicing to protect against attack on personal information file. The encryption performance of the personal information file collected by the Web crawling method is compared with the encryption decryption rate according to the key generation and the encryption decryption sharing according to the user key level. The simulation was performed on the personal information file delivered to the external agency transmission process. As a result, we compared the performance of existing methods and found that the detection rate is improved by 4.64 times and the information protection rate is improved by 18.3%.

Supervised Hybrid Control Architecture for Navigation of a Personal Robot

  • As personal robots coexist with a person with a role to help a person, while adapting various human life and environment, the personal robots have to accommodate frequently-changing or different-from-home-to-home environment. In addition, personal robots may have many kinds of different Kinematic configurations depending on the capabilities. Some may have a mobile base and others may have arms and a head. The motivation of this study arises from this not-well-defined home environment and varying Kinematic configuration. So the goal of this study is to develop a general control architecture for personal robots. There exist three major architectures; deliberative, reactive and hybrid. We found that these are applicable only for the defined environment with a fixed Kinematic configuration. Neither could accommodate the above two requirements. For the general solution, we propose a Supervised Hybrid Architecture (SHA), in which we use double layers of deliberative and reactive controls, distributed control with a modular design of Kinematic configurations, and real-time Linux OS. Deliberative and reactive actions interact through a corresponding arbitrator. These arbitrators help a robot to choose an appropriate architecture depending on the current situation to successfully perform a given task. The distributed control modules communicate through IEEE 1394 for the easy expandability. With a personal robot platform with a mobile base, two arms, a head and a pan-tilt stereo eye system, we tested the developed SHA for static as well as dynamic environments. For this application, we developed decision-making rules for selecting appropriate control methods for several situations of navigation task. Examples are shown to show the effectiveness.

Manufacture of Yellow Ocher Polystyrene-Based Hybrid Nanoparticles for High-Performance PET Applications (고성능 페트 생산용 폴리스티렌 기반 하이브리드형 나노구조체 생산)

  • The ecofriendly yellow ocher is used in the manufacturing of cosmetics, construction, and food packaging. The polyethylene terephthalate (PET) used for manufacturing food containers has a microporous structure that causes aeration. Hydrophilic yellow ocher may be applied to hydrophobic PET by surface modification to overcome this issue. The aim of this study is to fabricate a yellow ocher polystyrene hybrid structure in the form of nanoparticles using an optimizing molar ratio of styrene, divinylbenzene, and potassium peroxodisulfate for use in emulsion polymerization. The polymerization was conducted in a yellow ocher suspension that was prepared by dispersing mechanically ground yellow ocher in DI water. The prepared hybrid structure was measured using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The measurement revealed the spherical morphology and Si component that resulted from the yellow ocher in the polystyrene particles. We expect that this hybrid structure would be used as platform material to minimize aeration in PET.

Hybrid Algorithmic Framework Using IMU and WPS for Smart Phone Positioning Systems (스마트폰 IMU와 WPS를 결합한 복합 측위 방법론)

  • The drastic growth of mobile communication and spreading of smart phone make the significant attention on Location Based Service. The one of most important things for vitalization of LBS is the accurate estimating position for mobile object. Focusing on IMU deployed in smart phone, we develop a hybrid positioning estimation framework with a combination of WPS. The developed approaches can strengthen the advantages of independent indoor applicability of IMU. The estimation of IMU is efficiently compensated by radio fingerprint based Wi-Fi Positioning System. We put a focus especially on the hybrid algorithmic framework. Compared on the existing approaches of WPS or IMU, we achieve the comparable higher performance on both of average error of estimation and deviation of errors. Furthermore test-bed based on smart phone platform is practically developed and all data have been harvested from the actual measurement of test indoor area. This can approve the practical usefulness of proposed framework.

Comparative Study of Minimum Ripple Switching Loss PWM Hybrid Sequences for Two-level VSI Drives

  • Voltage source inverters (VSIs) are widely used to drive induction motors in industry applications. The quality of output waveforms depends on the switching sequences used in pulse width modulation (PWM). In this work, all existing optimal space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) switching strategies are studied. The performance of existing SVPWM switching strategies is optimized to realize a tradeoff between quality of output waveforms and switching losses. This study generalizes the existing optimal switching sequences for total harmonic distortions (THDs) and switching losses for different modulation indexes and reference angles with a parameter called quality factor. This factor provides a common platform in which the THDs and switching losses of different SVPWM techniques can be compared. The optimal spatial distribution of each sequence is derived on the basis of the quality factor to minimize harmonic current distortions and switching losses in a sector; the result is the minimum ripple loss SVPWM (MRSLPWM). By employing the sequences from optimized switching maps, the proposed method can simultaneously reduce THDs and switching losses. Two hybrid SVPWM techniques are proposed to reduce line current distortions and switching losses in motor drives. The proposed hybrid SVPWM strategies are MRSLPWM 30 and MRSLPWM 90. With a low-cost PIC microcontroller (PIC18F452), the proposed hybrid SVPWM techniques and the quality of output waveforms are experimentally validated on a 2 kVA VSI based on a three-phase two-level insulated gate bipolar transistor.
