A Study on the Combustion Instability of the Hybrid Rocket Motor with a Diaphragm (다이아프램이 설치된 하이브리드 로켓 모터의 연소불안정 연구)

  • In this paper, the main cause on excitation of the combustion instability which may occur in the hybrid rocket motor with a diaphragm was studied. Hybrid rocket motor propulsion tests considering various experimental conditions such as with a diaphragm or not, a diameter of diaphragm, oxidizer mass flow rate, fuel length, etc were performed, and the combustion visualization for the inside of a hybrid rocket motor with a diaphragm was performed. With these experimental results, it was confirmed that the main cause of a large excitation was the hole-tone, and it was shown that the hole-tone model can be predicted experimental primary pressure oscillation frequency quite well.

  • The proposed hybrid controller consists of PID controller, feedforward controller and RLSE (Recursive Least Square Estimating) adaptive controller to compensate the force ripple that is periodic function of position in a linear motor. The modeling of force ripple is divided into the current-dependent and current-independent components. The current independent components never change as the current into the linear motor changes. On the other hand, the current-dependent components change as current varies when the velocity and load of the linear motor change. The proposed controller can compensate both force ripples. The feedforward controller compensates the current-independent components and the RLSE adaptive controller compensates the current-dependents components. We verified the performance of the controller by simulation and experiments.

  • Robust control for DC motor is needed according to the highest precision of industrial automation. However, when a motor control system with PID controller has an effect of load disturbance, it is very difficult to guarantee the robustness of control system. In this paper, PID-Expert hybrid control method for motor control system as a compensation method solving this problem is presented. If PID control system is stable, the Expert controller is idle. if the error hits the boundary of the constraint, the Expert controller begins operation to force the error back to the constraint set. The disturbance effect decrease remarkably, robust speed control of DC motor using PID-Expert Hybrid controller is demonstrated by the simulation.

  • Since axial flux motor has an advantage over more conventional radial flux type motor such as high power density, it can be used as a power train for hybrid electric vehicle and electric vehicle. Also operating range can be extended and efficiency can be improved by changing air gap. Optimal operating air gap is estimated based on the measured efficiency at different air gap. Motor model is developed based on estimated optimal air gap and efficiency. Motor/controller performance is analyzed through simulation. Possible application area of axial flux motor was explored through simulation.

  • In this paper, Hybrid Electric Vehicle is directly designed and manufactured for base study of HEV's system and Green Car. Foundation design consists of power train design and the frame design. The power train concept includes motor, engine, generator and battery. And the concept of the frame is the single-seat of this self-made HEV. A frame installed in hybrid system contains suspension, steering wheel, seat, accelerating pedal, brake pedal, clutch handle and various chassis parts with bearings. Electromagnetic clutch is equipped to transmit engine power to drive axle. The control algorism make using LabVIEW to control of an engine and a motor depending on drive condition. A parallel type hybrid system is manufactured to control operation of a motor and an engine depending on vehicle speed.

  • The propellant grain configuration is a design variable that determines the shape and performance of a solid rocket motor. Grain configuration variables have complicated effects on the motor performance; so the global optimization problem has to be solved in order to design the configuration variables. The grain performance has been analyzed by means of the grain burn-back and internal ballistic analysis, and the optimization technique searches for the configuration variables that satisfy the requirements. The deterministic and stochastic optimization techniques have been applied for the grain optimization, but the results are imperfect. In this study, the optimization design of the configuration variables has been performed using the hybrid optimization technique, which combines those two techniques. As a result, the hybrid optimization technique has proved to be efficient for the grain optimization design.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to study the combustion characteristics of Polyethylene-GOX hybrid motor. Several regression-rate models based on the length average were compared with the experiment data, postulating to treat the mass-addition rate of fuel almost constant to the mass rate of oxidize flowing into combustor.

  • In order to predict the performance of the small-scale Polyethylene-GOX hybrid rocket motor, a typical internal ballistic model was proposed. The model adopted for the present study employed the lumped scale of chamber pressure so that the pressure-time history resulted from the present model was comparable to the test results.

  • This paper is proposed a hybrid intelligent controller based on the vector controlled surface permanent magnet synchronous motor(SPMSM) drive system. The hybrid combination of neural network and fuzzy control will produce a powerful representation flexibility and numerical processing capability. Also, this paper is proposed speed control of SPMSM using neural network-fuzzy(NNF) control and speed estimation using artificial neural network(ANN) Controller. The back propagation neural network technique is used to provide a real time adaptive estimation of the motor speed. The error between the desired state variable and the actual one is back-propagated to adjust the rotor speed, so that the actual state variable will coincide with the desired one. The back propagation mechanism is easy to derive and the estimated speed tracks precisely the actual motor speed. This paper is proposed the theoretical analysis as well as the simulation results to verify the effectiveness of the new method.

  • This paper describes the flow and performance characteristics inside the post-chamber of the multi-port hybrid rocket motor. Using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique, the non reactive compressible flow fields in the downstream of the fuel grain was numerically calculated. The motor performance obtained from computational results were in agreement with that conducted by the ground motor firing test. Besides, the flow field characteristics inside the post-chamber were discussed under different port numbers (1 port and 3 ports) of the fuel grain. The flow pattern showed that the performance of multi-port hybrid rocket motor having three grain ports is higher than that of the single-port one due mainly to the difference of incoming mass flow rate irrespective to the pressure field.
