  • The Helicopter Simulator System is non-linear and complex. Futhermore, because of absence of its accurate mathematical model, it is difficult to control accurately its attitudes such as elevation angle and azimuth one. Therefore, we proposed a Hybrid GA-PID WAVENET(Genetic Algorithm Proportional Integral Derivative Wavelet Neural Network)control technique to control efficiently these angles. The proposed Hybrid GA-PID WAVENET is made through the following process. First, the WAVENET fundamental functions are defined. And their dilation and translation values are adjusted by GA to construct the optimal WAVENET controller. Secondly, the proportional, integral, and derivative gain coefficients of PR controller are tuned optimally. Finally, WAVENET controller which has a good transient characteristic and GA-PE controller which has a good steady state characteristic is adequately combined in hybrid type. Through the computer simulations, it is proved that the Hybrid GA-PE WAVENET control technique has a more excellent dynamic response than PID control technique and GA-PID one.

  • A fuzzy hybrid control technique using a semi-active tuned mass damper (STMD) has been proposed in this study for mitigation of wind induced motion of a tall building. For numerical simulation, a third generation benchmark is employed for a wind-excited 76-story building. A magnetorheological (MR) damper is used to compose an STMD. The proposed control technique employs a hierarchical structure consisting of two lower-level semi-active controllers (sub-controllers) and a higher-level fuzzy hybrid controller. Skyhook and groundhook control algorithms are used as sub-controllers. When a wind load is applied to the benchmark building, each sub-controller provides different control commands for the STMD. These control commands are appropriately combined by the fuzzy hybrid controller during realtime control. Results from numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed fuzzy hybrid control technique can effectively reduce the STMD motion as well as building responses compared to the conventional hybrid controller. In addition, it is shown that the control performance of the STMD is superior to that of the sample TMD and comparable to an active TMD, but with a significant reduction in power consumption.

  • A hybrid control method based on using the relative motion between a manipulator and a workpiece is described for a two-dimensional manipulator, in which it is assumed that there are no collisions between the robot manipulator and the workpiece, and that we use a computed force law which is similar to the computed torque law in the trajectory tracking problem of a robot manipulator. The effectiveness of the proposed hybrid control emthod is illustratec by some simulations.

  • This paper presents the improved zero power levitation control algorithm for a quadruple hybrid EMS (Electromagnetic Suspension) system. Quadruple hybrid EMS system is a united form of four hybrid EMS systems one on each corner coupled with a metal plate. Technical issue in controlling a quadruple hybrid EMS system is the permanent magnet's equilibrium point deviation caused by design tolerance which eventually leads to a limited zero power levitation control that only satisfies the zero power levitation in one or two hybrid EMS system among the four hybrid EMS system. In order to satisfy a complete zero power levitation control of the quadruple hybrid EMS system, the proposed method presented in this paper adds a compensating algorithm which adjusts the gap reference of each individual axe. Later, this paper proves the stability and effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm via experiment and disturbance test.

  • This paper presents a hybrid system combining lead rubber bearings and hydraulic actuators controlled by a $\mu-synthesis$ method for seismic response control of a cable-stayed bridge. A hybrid system could alleviate some of restrictions and limitations that exist when each system is acting alone because multiple control devices are operating. Therefore, the overall control performance of a hybrid system may be improved compared to each system, however the overall system robustness may be negatively impacted by active device in the hybrid system or active controller may cause instability due to small margins. Therefore, a $\mu-synthesis$ method that guarantees the robust performance is considered to enhance the possibility of real applications of the control system. The performances of the proposed control system are compared with those of passive, active, semiactive control systems and hybrid system controlled by a LQG algorithm. Furthermore, an extensive robust analysis with respect to stiffness and mass matrices perturbation and time delay of actuator is performed. Numerical simulation results show that the performances of the proposed control system are superior to those of passive system and slightly better than those of active and semiactive systems and two hybrid systems show similar control performances. Furthermore, the hybrid system controlled by a f-synthesis method shows the good robustness without loss of control performances. Therefore, the proposed control system could effectively be used to seismically excited cable-stayed bridge which contains many uncertainties.

  • Adaptive feed forward control algorithms based largely upon LMS approach have developed in recent two decades, and they have been widely applied to practical sound and vibration control problems in the case of the reference signal is available. Feedforward control can be applied only when reference signals can be measured or regenerated, while feedback controllers are used to reduce; sound and vibration when reference signals are not available. In recent years, hybrid control schemes in which adaptive feed forward controllers are combined with feedback ones have been studied based on simulations and experiments. The results have shown that the hybrid control may have better control performances in convergence speed and steady state error than the single control schemes. Hybrid control has the advantages of improving stability and performance as well as the disturbance rejection property. However, little effort has been made to the analysis or interpretation of hybrid control systems. In this study, we discussed the feedback controller effects on the stability of feed forward control algorithm in the presence of uncertain error path and a simple example showed that a stable feedback controller could make the feedforward controller unstable. A design criterion of feedback controllers is proposed in order to guarantee the stability of feedforward algorithms in the presence of error paths with uncertainties.

  • Time-Optimal solutions for attitude control with reaction wheels as well as with thrusters are studied. The suggested varying-time-sharing ratio thrusting is found to reduce the maneuvering time enormously. The hybrid control such as sequential hybrid and simultaneous hybrid with reaction wheels and thrusters are considered. The results show that simultaneous hybrid method reduces the maneuver time very much. Spacecraft model is KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite(KOMPSAT)-II, which is being developed by KARI in KOREA as an agile maneuvering satellite.

  • This paper presents a new hybrid control scheme using Active-Clamped Class-E(ACCE) inverter for the Induction Heating (IH) jar. The proposed hybrid control scheme has characteristics, which acts as class-E inverter at lower switch voltage and ACCE inverter at higher switch voltage than reference voltage of the main switch by feeding back voltage of the switch. The proposedv hybrid control scheme also has advantage of conventional ACCE inverter such as Zero-Voltage-Switch(ZVS) of the main switch and the reduced switch voltage due to clamping cricuit. Moreover, the proposed hybrid control method using ACCE inverter has higher output power than convenional control scheme since ACCE inverter operates like class-E inverter at low input voltage condition. The principles of the proposed control are explained in detail and the validity of the proposed control scheme is verifed through the several interesting simulated and experimental results.

  • An optimum design method for hybrid control systems is proposed in this study. By considering both active and passive control systems as a combined or a hybrid system, the optimization of the hybrid system can be achieved simultaneously. In the proposed approach, we consider design parameters of active control devices and the elements of the feedback gain matrix as design variables for the active control system. Required quantity of the added dampers are also treated as design variables for the passive control system. In the proposed method, the cost of both active and passive control devices, the required control efforts and dynamic responses of a target structure are selected as objective functions to be minimized. To effectively address the multi-objective optimization problem, we adopt a preference-based optimization model and apply a genetic algorithm as a numerical searching technique. As an example to verify the validity of the proposed optimization technique, a wind-excited 20-storey building with hybrid control systems is used and the results are presented.
