  • An experimental real-time hybrid method, which implements the vibration control of a building structure with only a two-way TLMD, is proposed and verified through a shaking table test. The building structure is divided into the upper experimental TLMD and the lower numerical structural part. The shaking table vibrates the TLMD with the response calculated from the numerical substructure, which is subjected to the excitations of the measured interface control force at its top story and sinusoidal waves input at its base. The results show that the conventional method can be replaced by the proposed methodology with a simple installation and accuracy for evaluating the control performance of a TLMD.

  • Low frequency exhaust noise of marine diesel engine is one of the most important noise sources in vessels. However, conventional absorptive silencers are ineffective to control exhaust noise because of low absorption in the low frequency range. In the paper, exhaust noise control of marine diesel engine was studied by using the hybrid silencer, which was composed of virtually divided array of concentric hole-cavity resonators and conventional absorptive silencer. A series of tests including field tests were performed to investigate the acoustic performance of the hybrid silencer. Consequently, its high performance of 5${\sim}$10 dB noise reduction in the low frequency range was confirmed and it is expected to be very helpful in reducing the exhaust noise of marine diesel engine.

  • This study focuses on the element configuration of hybrid mounts which are combined with passive elements and active elements. The seven configurations are presented according to connection of an active element to a passive element. The dynamic characteristics and control performance of them are investigated qualitatively using Bode plots. With reference to the transmitted force from internal to external, three cases are selected. In addition, some numerical simulations for the three cases are carried out to confirm the performance quantitatively. Based on this research results, a novel hybrid mount with excellent performance will be able to be developed.

  • A new hybrid mount system is proposed for microvibration control in a high-tech factory. The mount consists of an airspring as a passive device and a piezostack actuator as an active device. The two devices are connected in series. Some numerical simulations and experimental tests are carried out to evaluate isolation performance of the mount system comprising of four proposed hybrid mounts. As a control logic, the specific algorithm is adopted for considering multiple target frequencies of excitation based on a Filtered-X LMS algorithm. The results are compared with isolation performance of the passive airspring mount system. It is confirmed that the proposed hybrid mount system has great performance on microvibration.

  • To control vibration of real-size steel structure, a hybrid-type linear motor damper was designed and applied to 30m steel structure at UNISON. The LMD was tuned to the first mode natural frequency of the building. In order to use for simulation data and control parameters, dynamic response characteristics of building and damper were tested. The response of building was reduced by 10 dB with LMD and H$\infty$ algorithm. This value was similar to the result of simulation.

  • Hybrid mass damper systems have recently been introduced as a dynamic vibration absorber to exploit the benefits of both the conventional tuned mass damper system and the active control system. A hybrid system is programmed to function as either a conventional TMD or as an active system according to the wind conditions and the resultant building and damper mass vibration characteristics. This paper deals with the design of the robust controller for the control of the flexible box structure. The control algorithm was devised based on $H_2$(LQG) robust control logic with acceleration feedback and to improve the capability of the controller Kalman Filter was accepted for the system. To test the ability of the robust controller using the linear motor damper system, performance tests and simulations were carried out on the full-scale steel frame structure. Through the performance tests, it was confirmed that acceleration levels are reduced down.

  • A new hybrid permanent magnet biased magnetic levitation actuator (maglev) is developed. This new maglev actuator is composed of two C-core electromagnetic cores separated with two permanent magnets. Compared to the conventional hybrid maglev actuators, the new actuator has unique flux paths such that bias flux paths are separated with control flux paths. The control flux paths have minimum reluctances only developed by air gaps, so the currents to produce control fluxes can be minimized. The gravity load can be compensated with the permanent magnet bias fluxes developed at off-centered air gap positions while external disturbances are controlled with control fluxes by currents. The consumed power to operate this levitation system can be minimized. 1-D magnetic circuit model is developed for this model such that the flux densities and magnetic forces are extensively analyzed. 3-D finite element model is also developed to analyze the performances of the maglev actuator.

  • Thipaper presents a methodology to suppress the vibration of thin rectangular plate clamped all edges using piezo-ceramic material as actuators and sensors. Dynamic characteristics of the structure bonded with distributed actuators/sensors are identified by the Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) frequency domain modeling technique based on the experimental data. Hybrid control scheme is adopted and feedback controller is designed by LQG(Linear Quadratic Gaussian). Feedforward controller is adapted by multiple filtered -$x$ LMS(least mean square) algorithm. Experiment result demonstrates the effective reduction of the vibration label for both the transient and persistent external disturbances.

  • A discrete sliding mode control (SMC) method based on hybrid model of neural network and nominal model is proposed to reduce the vibration of flexible structures, which is a robust active controller developed by using a sliding manifold approach. Since the thick boundary layer will reduce the virtue of SMC, the multilayer feed-forward neural network is adopted to model the uncertainty part. The neural network is trained by Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation. The design objective of the sliding mode surface is based on the quadratic optimal cost function. In course of running, the input signal of SMC come from the hybrid model of the nominal model and the neural network. The simulation shows that the proposed control scheme is very effective for large uncertainty systems.
