Various hybrid dampers have been developed in Korea to control the vibration due to a wind and earthquake. In order to minimize the installment space, cost and construction process, the new hybrid friction damper is developed. This hybrid damper is composed of several rotary friction components having two frictional joint. Because of these components, the building vibration due to wind and earthquake can be mitigated by hybrid friction damper. In this paper, various dependency tests were carried out to evaluate on the structural performance of two joint rotational friction component of the hybrid damper. Test results show that two joint rotational components do not depend on a displacement and a frequency of forcing but friction coefficients is reducing as a clamping force is increasing.

The current status of Canadian research on rotor-based actively controlled technologies for helicopters is reviewed in this paper. First, worldwide research in this field is overviewed to put Canadian research into context. Then, the unique hybrid control concept of Carleton University is described, along with its key element, the "stiffness control" concept. Next, the smart hybrid active rotor control system (SHARCS) projected's history and organization is presented, which aims to demonstrate the hybrid control concept in a wind tunnel test campaign. To support the activities of SHARCS, unique computational tools, novel experimental facilities and new know-how had to be developed in Canada, among them the state-of-the-art Carleton Whirl Tower facility or the ability to design and manufacture aeroelastically scaled helicopter rotors for wind tunnel testing. In the second half of the paper, details are provided on the current status of development on the three subsystems of SHARCS, i.e. that of the actively controlled tip, the actively controlled flap and the unique stiffness-control device, the active pitch link.

Various types of large substrate handling robots are used in the thin file solar cell manufacturing line as well as LCD or PDP production line. Because the robot handles the heavy substrate at high speed, there are some issues such as vibration control and the optimal design of arms and forks. As the substrate becomes larger and heavier, robot systems are also larger and the vibration issue of the robot end-effector becomes more important. In the paper, we established the robot modeling and the control architecture including the flexible part such as forks. Then, we performed dynamic simulation in the various condition and analyzed the characteristics of the fork vibration. We can reduce the vibration using the trajectory planning and input shaping algorithm and it was proved by experiment.

The Structures or buildings nowadays draw more complexity in design due to space limitation and other factor that affect the height and dimensions, that results to instability. So the various methods have been carried out to improve the safety factor from an earthquake or a boom until recently. But, it is very hard to get model precisely because these structures are the non-linear and multi-variable systems. For this reason, we developed the active control system that is applied the adaptive control method on the U type Tuned Liquid Damper(TLD) passive control system. It is proven that the proposed active control strategy of the plate carrying U type TLD system is the more effective control method to suppress the vibration of the structure. The entire hybrid control system is composed of the actuator acted in the opposite direction of the TLD system's motion direction and the active control device with an air pressure adjuster. This paper proposed the adaptive control methods to improve the problem of U type TLD system which is used widely for the passive control of the building. And it is proved by the simulation. In advanced, it is developed the pressure control method that is improved the hybrid controller's performance by using air chamber pressure controller. These methods take the advantage of the decrease of the maximum displacement by using the controller as soon as the impact is loaded. This is a very important element for the safety design and economic design of structures.

A linear motor damper based on the linear motor principle is developed to suppress structural vibration. This paper deals with the design, analysis, and manufacture of the linear motor damper. It is designed to be able to move the auxiliary mass of 1500kg, up to $\pm250mm$ stroke. The control algorithm was designed based on LQG control logic with acceleration feedback. Through performance tests, it was confirmed that the developed hybrid mass damper has reliable feasibility as a control device for structural control. In addition, the linear motor damper is more economical than both hydraulic and electric motor driving mass damper with respect to simple structure and low maintenance cost. A series of performance tests of the linear motor damper system were carried out on the full-scale steel frame structure in UNISON Corporation. Through the performance tests, it was confirmed that acceleration levels are reduced down 10dB for first mode of structure
This building is a forty-eight story, 170 meters high multiple dwelling house with Dual Frame System (DFS), a coupled vibration system connecting two independent structures with hydraulic dampers. Generation of large deformation between two structures during earthquakes contributes to make the hydraulic dampers effective. To improve the aseismic performance more, this building adopts DFS hybrid system that consists of DFS and base isolation system. About typical floors, columns and beams are constructed with LRV precast concrete method that shorten the construction period greatly by integrating column-beam joints in column members.
In this paper, Nonlinear VSS control based on bang-bang control concept is derived under the assumption that the control input is bounded. We try to derive control algorithm which has almost same performance as the time optimal control. We focus this control scheme on the real implementation of DC motor position controller of flexible link, i.e. we obtain the switching curves from the real data of DC motor system operating under the full maximum and minimum applied voltages. State space is separated into several regions and we set different switching surfaces in each region to reduce chattering problem. The efficiency of the proposed controller is compared with PID controller and it is shown that the controller converges fast than PID controller without chattering. The hybrid controller scheme is also proposed not only to control the position of hub but also to reduce the vibration of end tip of flexible link.

This paper presents real-time hybrid test method of large-scale MR damper applied to a building structure under seismic excitation. The real-time hybrid test using an actuator for the control performance evaluation of a MR damper controlling the response of earthquake-excited building structure is experimentally implemented. In the test, the building structure is used as a numerical part, on which a large-scale MR damper adopted as an experimental part was installed to reduce its response. At first, the force that is acting between a MR damper and building structure is measured from the load cell attached on the actuator system and is fed-back to the computer to control the motion of the actuator. Then, the actuator is so driven that the error between the interface displacement computed from the numerical building structure with the excitations of earthquake and the fed-back interface force and that measured from the actuator. The control efficiency of the MR damper used in this paper is experimentally confirmed by implementing this process of experiment on real-time.

In this paper, the vibration characteristics of a 2-phase Hybrid type Linear Stepping Motor(HLSM) are analyzed using the ACSL. A magnetic equivalent circuit is based on the structure of the HLSM, and then the electric equivalent circuit of the HLSM is derived by solving equations for the magnetic equivalent circuit. A normal force is calculated using FEM(Flux2D). And the vibration characteristics(Continuous vibration) of the HLSM are simulated by the ACSL with the voltage equations, the thrust equation, the normal force equation and the kinetic equation.
