Four-valued Hybrid FFT processor design using current mode CMOS (전류 모드 CMOS를 이용한 4치 Hybrid FFT 연산기 설계)

  • In this study, Multi-Values Logic processor was designed using the basic circuit of the electric current mode CMOS. First of all, binary FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) was extended and high-speed Multi-Valued Logic processor was constructed using a multi-valued logic circuit. Compared with the existing two-valued FFT, the FFT operation can reduce the number of transistors significantly and show the simplicity of the circuit. Moreover, for the construction of amount was used inside the FFT circuit with the set of redundant numbers like [0,1,2,3]. As a result, the defects in lines were reduced and it turned out to be effective in the aspect of normality an regularity when it was used designing VLSI(Very Large Scale Integration). To multiply FFT, the time and size of the operation was used as LUT(Look Up Table) Finally, for the compatibility with the binary system, multiple-valued hybrid-type FFT processor was proposed and designed using binary-four valued encoder, four-binary valued decoder, and the electric current mode CMOS circuit.

Design of Hybrid Wheeled and Legged Mobile Robot with a Waist Joint (허리 구조를 갖는 복합 바퀴-다리 이동형 로봇의 설계)

  • In this paper, we design a hybrid wheeled and legged mobile robot with a waist joint. The proposed hybrid mobile robot is designed to have a hybrid structure with leg and wheel for the efficient movement in flat and uneven surfaces. The proposed robot have a waist joint that is used to stably transform from wheeled driving to legged walking of the robot and to overcome non-flat surface. In order to recognize various environments we use LRF sensor, PSD sensor, CCD camera. Also, a motion planning method for hybrid mobile robot with a waist joint is proposed to select wheeled driving motion and legged walking motion of the robot based the environment types. We verify the efficient mobility of the developed hybrid mobile robot through navigation experiments using the proposed motion planning method in various environments.

  • An analytic solution of circular aperture antenna with a feed transition is presented using a hybrid method of generalized scattering matrices and integral transform. The method can give an analytic solution to antennas with integrated filters or mode converters, etc. Scattering matrices and integral transform techniques are combined to accommodate discontinuities connected between an aperture and a feed waveguide, and radiated field from the aperture. The method gives radiation fields as well as return losses of the antenna.

  • Numerous spatial and transform-domain-based conventional denoising algorithms struggle to keep critical and minute structural features of the image, especially at high noise levels. Although neural network approaches are effective, they are not always reliable since they demand a large quantity of training data, are computationally complicated, and take a long time to construct the model. A new framework of enhanced hybrid filtering is developed for denoising color images tainted by additive white Gaussian Noise with the goal of reducing algorithmic complexity and improving performance. In the first stage of the proposed approach, the noisy image is refined using a high-dimensional non-local means filter based on Principal Component Analysis, followed by the extraction of the method noise. The wavelet transform and SURE Shrink techniques are used to further culture this method noise. The final denoised image is created by combining the results of these two steps. Experiments were carried out on a set of standard color images corrupted by Gaussian noise with multiple standard deviations. Comparative analysis of empirical outcome indicates that the proposed method outperforms leading-edge denoising strategies in terms of consistency and performance while maintaining the visual quality. This algorithm ensures homogeneous noise reduction, which is almost independent of noise variations. The power of both the spatial and transform domains is harnessed in this multi realm consolidation technique. Rather than processing individual colors, it works directly on the multispectral image. Uses minimal resources and produces superior quality output in the optimal execution time.

Combining Hough Transform and Fuzzy Unsupervised Learning Strategy in Automatic Segmentation of Large Bowel Obstruction Area from Erect Abdominal Radiographs

  • The number of senior citizens with large bowel obstruction is steadily growing in Korea. Plain radiography was used to examine the severity and treatment of this phenomenon. To avoid examiner subjectivity in radiography readings, we propose an automatic segmentation method to identify fluid-filled areas indicative of large bowel obstruction. Our proposed method applies the Hough transform to locate suspicious areas successfully and applies the possibilistic fuzzy c-means unsupervised learning algorithm to form the target area in a noisy environment. In an experiment with 104 real-world large-bowel obstruction radiographs, the proposed method successfully identified all suspicious areas in 73 of 104 input images and partially identified the target area in another 21 images. Additionally, the proposed method shows a true-positive rate of over 91% and false-positive rate of less than 3% for pixel-level area formation. These performance evaluation statistics are significantly better than those of the possibilistic c-means and fuzzy c-means-based strategies; thus, this hybrid strategy of automatic segmentation of large bowel suspicious areas is successful and might be feasible for real-world use.

Multi-step wind speed forecasting synergistically using generalized S-transform and improved grey wolf optimizer

  • A reliable wind speed forecasting method is crucial for the applications in wind engineering. In this study, the generalized S-transform (GST) is innovatively applied for wind speed forecasting to uncover the time-frequency characteristics in the non-stationary wind speed data. The improved grey wolf optimizer (IGWO) is employed to optimize the adjustable parameters of GST to obtain the best time-frequency resolution. Then a hybrid method based on IGWO-optimized GST is proposed to validate the effectiveness and superiority for multi-step non-stationary wind speed forecasting. The historical wind speed is chosen as the first input feature, while the dynamic time-frequency characteristics obtained by IGWO-optimized GST are chosen as the second input feature. Comparative experiment with six competitors is conducted to demonstrate the best performance of the proposed method in terms of prediction accuracy and stability. The superiority of the GST compared to other time-frequency analysis methods is also discussed by another experiment. It can be concluded that the introduction of IGWO-optimized GST can deeply exploit the time-frequency characteristics and effectively improving the prediction accuracy.

  • Iterative Fourier transform algorithm, (IFTA) is tile iterative numerical algorithm for the design of the diffractive optical elements (DOE), by which the phase distribution of a DOE converges on a local optimal solution. The convergence of IFTA depends on several factors 3s initial phase distribution, the structure of the degree of freedom on the observation plane, and the values of internal parameters. In this paper, we analyze tile dependence of the convergence of IFTA on an internal parameter of IFTA, the relaxation parameter, and propose a new hybrid scheme of genetic algorithm and IFTA to obtain more accurate solution.

  • This paper addresses a hybrid multi-focus image fusion scheme using the recent curvelet transform constructions. Hybridization is obtained by combining the MS fusion rule with a novel "copy" method. The proposed scheme use MS rule to fuse the m most significant terms in spectrum of an image at each decomposition level. The scheme is dubbed in this work as m-term fusion in adherence to its use of the MSC (most significant coefficients) in the transform set at any given scale, orientation, and translation. We applied the edge-sensitive objective quality measure proposed by Xydeas and Petrovic to evaluate the method. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is a potential alternative to the redundant, shift-invariant Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet transforms. In particular, it was confirmed that a 50% m-term fusion produces outputs with no visible quality degradation.

Intermixing Surface and Volume Visualization Using Layered Depth Images (다중 깊이 영상을 이용한 볼륨-표면 혼합 가시화)

  • As volume rendering has been applied for computer game, the visualization of volume data with surface data in one scene has been required. Though a hybrid rendering of volume and surface data have been developed using the GPGPU functionality, computer games which run on low-level hardware are difficult to perform the hybrid rendering. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid rendering based on DirectX 9.0 and general hardware. We generate the layered depth images from surface data using a new method to reduce the depth complexity and generation time. Then, we perform the hybrid rendering using the layered depth images. In the rendering process, we suggest a new method to transform the coordinate system from a surface coordinate to a volume coorinate and propose an accelerated rendering technique. As the result, we can perform volume-surface hybrid rendering in an efficient way.

Gain Dependent Optimum Pulse Generation Rates of a Hybrid-Type Actively and Passively Mode-Locked Fiber Laser

  • We have experimentally observed and theoretically analyzed the gain dependent optimum repetition rates of a hybrid-type active and passive mode locked laser pulses in an erbium-doped fiber laser of the figure-of-eight geometry by utilizing a nonlinear amplifier loop mirror (NALM) as a saturable absorber and a directional-coupler type electro-optic modulator as an active mode locker. Transform-limited mode-locked pulses of about 10 ps width were obtained at repetition rates which correspond to harmonics of the cavity fundamental frequency and depend on the optical amplifier gain in the NALM.
