Design and Control Method of an On-Board Charger using a Hybrid Starter Generator System in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (시동 발전기 시스템을 이용한 탑재형 충전기의 설계 및 제어 방법)

  • 본 논문은 시동 발전기(Hybrid Starter Generator, HSG) 시스템을 이용한 탑재형 충전기(On Board Charger, OBC)의 설계 및 제어 방법을 제안한다. 일반적으로 하이브리드 자동차(Hybrid Electric Vehicle, HEV)는 인버터 및 발전기로 구성된 HSG 시스템과 전력변환장치를 이용한 배터리 충전 시스템을 포함한다. 본 논문에서는 HSG 시스템에 추가적인 회로를 이용하여 배터리 충전 기능을 수행할 수 있는 OBC의 설계 및 제어 방법을 제안한다. 결과적으로 전력변환장치의 수를 줄여 차량의 내부 공간을 확보하며, 제조 가격을 감소시킬 수 있다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안하는 배터리 충전 시스템의 설계 및 제어 방법의 타당성을 검증한다.

  • This paper introduces a novel hybrid converter combining a full-bridge soft switching converter and a full-bridge LLC converter. In this topology all the primary switches can achieve ZVS and ZCS all over the operation range. An additional switch and a diode are added in the secondary side of full-bridge converter to eliminate the circulating current and to provide a separate freewheeling path. The hybrid structure makes it possible to deliver the power to the secondary all the time of operation, thereby improving the efficiency. The proposed topology is suitable for the applications such as on-board chargers for electric vehicles and high power dc-dc converters. A 6.6-kW prototype converter was implemented and 97.5% efficiency was obtained through the experiments.

  • A hybrid control of a rectifier/regulator of wireless power transfer systems for electric vehicles is studied. A combined rectifier/regulator is used for charging control. The hybrid control comprises integral cycle control and pulse width modulation control to cope with the variations in the induced voltage due to clearance and alignment. The hybrid control has good control capability and does not cause severe switching loss. A 22 kW prototype of the Wireless Power Transfer class 4 charging system defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers is constructed and tested to verify the proposal.

  • Fuel conservation and environmental pollution control are the principal motivating factors that are urging at present widespread research and development activities for electric hybrid vehicles throughout the world. The paper describes different possible energy storage devices, such as battery, flywheel and ultra capacitor, and power sources, such as gasoline engine, diesel engine, gas turbine and fuel cell for next generation hybrid electric vehicle. The technology trend and comparison in energy storage and power devices indicate that battery and gasoline engine, respectively will remain the most viable devices for hybrid vehicle at least in the near future.

  • The interior permanent-magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is often used for the traction motor of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) due to its high power density and wide speed range. This paper introduces the 120kW class IPMSM for traction motors in military trucks. This system, as a SHEV (series hybrid electric vehicle), requires a traction motor that can generate high torque. This study introduces a way to reduce costs by proposing a design approach that creates reluctance torque that can be maximized by varying the dq-axis inductance. If a model designed by a design approach meets the desired torque, the magnetic torque can be reduced by an amount equal to the increase in reluctance torque and consequently the amount of permanent magnets can be reduced. A reduction gear and high speed operation of motors are necessary for the miniaturization of the motor. Thus, a fairly large centrifugal force is generated due to the high speed rotation. This force causes mechanical interference between the rotor and the stator, and a design approach for adding an iron bridge is explained to solve the interference. In this study, the initial model and the improved model that reduces cost and improves mechanical durability are compared by FEA, and the models are produced. Finally, the FEM results were verified experimentally.

  • A $CO_2$ heat pump system was designed for both cooling and heating in the cabin of electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles or fuel cell vehicles, In this study, the performance characteristics of the heat pump system without any supplementary heating device were analyzed and the heating performance was compared with the cooling performance for various operating conditions. Experiments were carried out by changing the speed of electric drive compressor, the air flow rate of interior heat exchanger and the air inlet temperature and speed of exterior heat exchanger. Therefore, the cooling/heating capacities and the corresponding COPs are quantified. Also, the heat pump system showed an improved performance for the cooling operation and the heating operation. In this study, the experimental results can be used to evaluate the effect of system design changes on system performance as well as the development of a highly efficient heat pump system.

  • Hybrid electric vehicles have applied electric parts for saving fuel consumption and reducing levels of environmental pollution. Electrification of automobiles is indispensable for entering into global market because of enhanced environment restriction. ISG (Integrated Starter & Generator) system is one of main electric parts and can improve fuel efficiency more than other components by using Idle Stop & Go function and regenerative braking system. However, if ISG motor and inverter work under the continuously high load condition, it will make them the decrease of performance and durability. So the ISG motor and inverter need to properly design the cooling system of them. In this study, we suggested the enhancement points by modifying the thermal design of ISG motor and then confirmed the improvement of the cooling performance.

  • 본 논문은 전기자동차 (Electric Vehicles, EVs) 및 플러그인 하이브리드 자동차 (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles, PHEVs)용 리튬 이온 (Li-Ion) 배터리 충전을 위한 3.3 kW급 차량 탑재형 (On-Board) 충전기 하드웨어의 설계 및 제작에 대하여 기술한다. 차량 실장 특성을 고려하여 부하직렬공진형 dc-dc 컨버터를 적용하고, 80-130kHz의 고주파 스위칭 및 ZVS (Sero-Voltage Switching) 기법을 통해 수동소자의 크기를 최적화하여 5.84L, 5.8kg의 저부피, 경량을 달성한다. 전자부하를 대상으로 정전류 (Continuous Current, CC) 및 정전압 (Continuous Voltage, CV) 제어를 수행하여 93%의 고효율 획득 및 성능을 검증한다.

  • The work in this paper presents development of fuzzy logic-based energy management strategy for a fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle. In order for the fuel cell system to overcome the inherent limitation such as slow response time and low fuel economy especially at the low power region, the battery system has come to compensate for the fuel cell system. This type of hybrid configuration has many advantages, however, the energy management strategy between power sources is essentially required. For the optimal power distribution between the fuel cell system and the battery system, a fuzzy logic-based energy management strategy is proposed. In order to show the validity and the robustness of suggested strategy, some simulations are performed for the standard drive cycles.
