  • In this study, a novel and flexible recommender system was developed, based on product taxonomy and usage patterns of users. The proposed system consists of the following four steps : (i) estimation of the product-preference matrix, (ii) construction of the product-preference matrix, (iii) estimation of the popularity and similarity levels for sought-after products, and (iv) recommendation of a products for the user. The product-preference matrix for each user is estimated through a linear combination of clicks, basket placements, and purchase statuses. Then the preference matrix of a particular genre is constructed by computing the ratios of the number of clicks, basket placements, and purchases of a product with respect to the total. The popularity and similarity levels of a user's clicked product are estimated with an entropy index. Based on this information, collaborative and content-based filtering is used to recommend a product to the user. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed approach, an empirical study was conducted by constructing an experimental e-commerce site. Our results clearly showed that the proposed hybrid method is superior to conventional methods.

  • Due to the development of electric and hybrid vehicles, the trend has changed from hydraulic power steering system to electric power steering system (EPS). In this paper, design parameters are deduced through the structural analysis based on the finite element analysis for the intermediate shaft of the EPS on the market. By analyzing the design parameters, the structure design is improved to support the required high torque on the EPS. The numerical analysis is performed to obtain the improved design of the intermediate shaft model and the analysis results are compared with the existing model. It is noted through this numerical approach that the improved design of the intermediate shaft can be acquired the structural safety and high stiffness than existing model.

  • This paper reviews some of the most prominent and promising areas of chemical process control both in relations to batch and continuous processes. These areas include the modeling, optimization, control and monitoring of chemical processes and entire plants. Most of these areas explicitly utilize a model of the process. For this purpose the types of models used are examined in some detail. These types of models are categorized in knowledge-driven and datadriven classes. In the areas of modeling and optimization, attention is paid to batch reactors using the Tendency Modeling approach. These Tendency models consist of data- and knowledge-driven components and are often called Gray or Hybrid models. In the case of continuous processes, emphasis is placed in the closed-loop identification of a state space model and their use in Model Predictive Control nonlinear processes, such as the Fluidized Catalytic Cracking process. The effective monitoring of multivariate process is examined through the use of statistical charts obtained by the use of Principal Component Analysis (PMC). Static and dynamic charts account for the cross and auto-correlation of the substantial number of variables measured on-line. Centralized and de-centralized chart also aim in isolating the source of process disturbances so that they can be eliminated. Even though significant progress has been made during the last decade, the challenges for the next ten years are substantial. Present progress is strongly influenced by the economical benefits industry is deriving from the use of these advanced techniques. Future progress will be further catalyzed from the harmonious collaboration of University and Industrial researchers.

  • We demonstrated the combined applications of online protein digestion using trypsin immobilized enzyme reactor (IMER) and dual tandem mass spectrometry with collisionally activated dissociation (CAD) and electron transfer dissociation (ETD) for tryptic peptides eluted through the trypsin-IMER. For the trypsin-IMER, the organic and inorganic hybrid monolithic material was used. By employing the trypsin-IMER, the long digestion time could be saved with little or no sacrifice of the digestion efficiency, which was demonstrated for standard protein samples. For three model proteins (cytochrome c, carbonic anhydrase, and bovine serum albumin), the tryptic peptides digested by the IMER were analyzed using LC-MS/MS with the dual application of CAD and ETD. As previously shown by others, the dual application of CAD and ETD increased the sequence coverage in comparison with CAD application only. In particular, ETD was very useful for the analysis of highly-protontated peptide cations, e.g., ${\geq}3+$. The combination approach provided the advantages of both trypsin-IMER and CAD/ETD dual tandem mass spectrometry applications, which are rapid digestion (i.e., 10 min), good digestion efficiency, online coupling of trypsin-IMER and liquid chromatography, and high sequence coverage.

  • Distributed operation of overall structural design process, by which product and process optimization are implemented, is presented in this paper. The database-interconnected multilevel hybrid method, in which the conventional design method and the optimal design approach are combined, is utilized there. The method selectively takes the accustomed procedure of the conventional method in the conceptional framework of the optimal design. Design conditions are divided into primary and secondary criteria This staged application of design conditions reduces the computational burden for large complex optimization problems. Two kinds of numeric and graphic processes, are simultaneously implemented on the basis of concurrent engineering concepts in the distributed environment of PC networks. Numerical computation on server and graphic works on independent client are communicated through message passing. Numerical design is based on the optimization methodology and the drawing process is carried out by AutoCAD using the AutoLISP programming language. The prototype design experimentation for some steel trusses shows the validity and usability of the method. This study has sufficient adaptability and expandability in methodology, in that it is based on general theory and industry standard systems.

  • There are increasing needs to deliver the multimedia streaming over heterogeneous networks. When considering network environments and equipment accessed by user, delivery of video streaming must be scalable. There are many kinds of scalable video coding: spatial, temporal, SNR, and hybrid. The SNR scalable and spatial resolution, but different SNR quality with respect to layers. The 1-layer SNR scalable encoder produces SNR scalable video streams with ease. But, there is drift problem. Modified 1-layer approach does not have this problem but coding inefficiency, and is not MPEG-compliant. The present MPEG-compliant 2-layer encoder comes out to reduce coding rate. But it still use only base layer to encode whole layer. In this paper, we propose adaptive MPEG-compliant 2-layer encoder. Using linear combination algorithm, encoder use 1 motion vector to encode the sequences efficiently. By dong this, we can achieve the coding efficiency of SNR scalable coding.

  • The research aim is to analyze the attributes of fashion as an object of art, and to examine its potential and status as an art of body space. This paper explains the relationship between these two disciplines by focusing on the body as the foundation of fashion and art's concepts, and discusses the intrinsic properties and the approach to the creation of fashion which is expressed through the body. The research begins by analyzing the sociologists thoughts on the body and extracts the characteristics of fashion as a practice of a new art field from the perspective of body creating space. It explains that fashion can most easily transform the body and that this, along with the body itself, possesses the element of creating body space. Fashion is a new avenue for understanding the body that not only includes the human figure but also its movement and spirit approached as a creative activity. The paper will show that fashion chosen as an art activity expresses the changeable and ambiguous body and embraces an unlimited potential of creative activity. This expands the creative field by managing both the inner and outer space of the body. Historical examination, literature review and overview of development of reference materials will establish the theory.

  • Personalized media includes user-targeted and user-generated content (UGC) exchanged through social media and interactive applications. The increased consumption of UGC presents challenges and opportunities to multimedia information systems. We work towards modeling a deep structure for content networks. To gain insights, a hybrid practice with Media Framework (MF) is presented for network creation of personalized media, which leverages the authoring methodology with user-generated semantics. The system's vertical integration allows users to audition their personalized media networks in the context of a global system network. A navigation scheme with dynamic GUI shifts the interaction paradigm for content query and sharing. MF adopts a multimodal architecture anticipating emerging use cases and genres. To model diversification of platforms, information processing is robust across multiple technology configurations. Physical and virtual networks are integrated with distributed services and transactions, IoT, and semantic networks representing media content. MF applies spatiotemporal and semantic signal processing to differentiate action responsiveness and information responsiveness. The extension of multimedia information processing into authoring enables generating interactive and impermanent media on computationally enabled devices. The outcome of this integrated approach with presented methodologies demonstrates a paradigmatic shift of the concept of UGC as personalized media network, which is dynamical and evolvable.

  • The use of energy storage systems (ESSs) has become a feasible solution to solve the wind power intermittency issue. However, the use of ESSs increases the system cost significantly. In this paper, an optimal power flow control scheme to minimize the ESS capacity is proposed by using the zero-phase delay low-pass filter which can eliminate the phase delay between the dispatch power and the wind power. In addition, the filter time constant is optimized at the beginning of each dispatching interval to ensure the fluctuation mitigation requirement imposed by the grid code with a minimal ESS capacity. And also, a short-term power dispatch control algorithm is developed suitable for the proposed power dispatch based on the zero-phase delay low-pass filter with the predetermined ESS capacity. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed power management approach, case studies are carried out by using a 3-MW wind turbine with real wind speed data measured on Jeju Island.

  • Incompatible plant-pathogen interactions result in the rapid cell death response known as hypersensitive response (HR) and activation of host defense-related genes. To understand the molecular and cellular mechanism controlling defense response better, several approaches including isolation and characterization of novel genes, promoter analysis of those genes, protein-protein interaction analysis and reverse genetic approach etc. By using the yeast two-hybrid system a clone named Tsipl, Tsil -interacting protein 1, was isolated whose translation product apparently interacted with Tsil, an EREBP/AP2 type DNA binding protein. RNA gel blot analysis showed that the expression of Tsipl was increased by treatment with NaCl, ethylene, salicylic acid, or gibberellic acid. Transient expression analysis using a Tsipl::smGFP fusion gene in Arabidopsis protoplasts indicated that the Tsipl protein was targeted to the outer surface of chloroplasts. The targeted Tsipl::smGFP proteins were diffused to the cytoplasm of protoplasts in the presence of salicylic acid (SA) The PEG-mediated co-transfection analysis showed that Tsipl could interact with Tsil in the nucleus. These results suggest that Tsipl-Tsil interaction might serve to regulate defense-related gene expression. Basically the useful promoters are valuable tools for effective control of gene expression related to various developmental and environmental condition.(중략)
