The freezing point would be different as the atmospheric pressure and humidity change. So if we can measure the transparency of ice, it should be easy that we approximate a freezing process and estimate the density of ice. This paper presents the method for estimating the transparency of ice in images. First, ice images are mapped to the $CIEL^*a^*b^*$ color space, and we make a new index for the ice transparency by using the average of $L^*$ and RMS(Root Mean Square) Contrast. In this case, the new index is better than the other existing method, i.e, Weber contrast, and Michelson contrast.

Variations of thickness and effective thermal conductivity of frost forming on the horizontal] cylinder with respect to time were measured under cross flow. The local heat flux around the cylinder was determined by measuring the radial temperature distribution in the cylinder having small holes drilled axially in which T-type thermocouples were inserted, then by using one dimensional cylindrical heat conduction equation. The thickness and the surface temperature of the frost layer around the cylinder were measured periodically while developing the frost. Each experiment was peformed by varying the Reynolds number, the temperature, and the humidity condition. Specially the dew point temperature of the most cases was below the freezing point. Experimental data showed that the frost layers on the front and the rear surface were thicker than those on the top and the bottom one which was near the separation point. The thickness and effective thermal conductivity of the frost layer were affected by inlet air velocity, temperature, and humidity. Moreover, the effective thermal conductivity and the effective thermal resistance increase with respect to time.
This paper presents a bridge road surface frost prediction and monitoring system. The node sensing hardware comprises microprocessor, temperature sensors, humidity sensors and Zigbee wireless communication. A software interface is implemented the control center to monitor and acquire the temperature and humidity data of bridge road surface. A bridge road surface frost occurs when the bridge deck temperature drops below the dew point and the freezing point. Measurement data was used for prediction of road surface frost occurrences. The actual alert is performed at least 30 minutes in advance the road surface frost. The road surface frost occurrences data are sent to nearby drivers for traffic accidents prevention purposes.

The stone Buddha and Shrine of Unjusa temple (Korean Treasure No. 797) at Hwasun formed in Koryo Dynasty is unique style which faces each other the back parts of south and north within the stone Shrine. The stone Buddha and Shrine is highly evaluated in historical, artistic and academic respects. But, the stone properties have been exposed in the open system various aspects of degradations weathered for a long time without specific protective facilities. To inquire into relative deterioration and environmental factor, air temperature and relative humidity of the stone Buddha and Shrine were monitored for a year of the indoor and outdoor, respectively. As a result, the temperature shows increase and decrease according to the seasons in the tendency to clear. While the relative humidity is high to keep all four seasons. Highly relative humidity environment induces dew condensation on the interior of stone Buddha and Shrine. The dew condensation is recorded at the spring, summer and winter season. The summer season is double the total of spring and winter season. In the case of summer, dew condensation is long time continued due to high temperature and relative humidity that is kept by more than nearly 100%. There is progress towards chemical weathering throughout dissolve rock properties and alteration on the rock surface. In the case of winter, dew condensation is not kept for a long time as summer. In the winter, which showing a below zero may add physical weathering throughout moisture that happen by dew condensation to repeat freezing and thawing. Therefore, the reduction plan of the relative humidity effect on dew condensation should be prepared.

To know the thermal-moisture condition of the concrete is very important to expect the concrete durability such as chloride attack, carbonation, alkali-aggregate reaction, freezing damage. The purpose of this study is to establish the temperature-moisture coupled model which is based on the finite element method and measure temperature and relative humidity under the exposured condition.

To endorse the reliability and durability of the solar photovoltaic (PV) device several tests were conducted before exposing to the outdoor field in a non-ideal condition. The PV module has high probability that intend to perform adequately for 30 years under operating conditions. To evaluate the long term performance of the PV module in diversified terrestrial conditions, one should use the outdoor performance data. However, no one wants to wait for 25 years to determine the module reliability. The accelerating stress tests performing in the laboratory by mimicking different field conditions are thus important to understand the performance of a PV module. In this review, we will discuss briefly about different accelerating stress types, levels and prioritization that are used to evaluate the PV module reliability and durability before using them in real field.
Good temperature control in the chill chain is imperative for maintaining safety and quality of the fresh meat. Therefore, the actual state of temperature or relative humidity histories of fresh meat product from carcass chill room to retail shop and the temperatures of chill and freezing rooms at local butcher shops were monitored by means of data loggers. The relative humidity and air temperature in carcass chill room were between 86 and 98%, and -3 and 0$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The surface temperatures of boxed beef measured in winter, when the outside air temperature was measured between -2 and -5$^{\circ}C$, were recorded between 1 and 3$^{\circ}C$, although transport vehicle switched off the chilling unit during transportation, However, the inside temperatures of chill transport vehicle measured in summer, when the transport time was prolonged to maximum 8 hrs, were raised to 10 to 15$^{\circ}C$, in worst case up to 25$^{\circ}C$. In that case, however, the inside temperature of boxed beef was maintained generally lower than 5$^{circ}C$ as the loading and unloading were finished within 30 min. The storage temperatures for meat in the subfreezing room, at which the butcher shops in local market are used to set to facilitate the thin slicing of meat, were measured between -2 and -8$^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, the temperatures of storage room for vacuum packaged meat in the chilled meat retail shops were maintained generally between 0 and +2$^{\circ}C$.
The frost heave process from repeated freezing and thawing actions in winter on forest road cut-slopes is important for forest road maintenance and management. This study investigated the damages of the forest heave process on forest road cut-slopes by measuring the changes in the road-cut surface elevation and sediment production and by conducting vegetation surveys which were aimed at providing information for forest road maintenance plans. The temperature and humidity differences were determined between the north and south cut-slopes. T-test showed that the north slope had a lower temperature and humidity than that of the south slope. Field observations also confirmed frozen soils on the north slopes, indicating that the north slopes are susceptible to frost heave. Sediment was converted to dry weight per unit area ($g/m^2$). T-test showed that the north slope produced more sediment than that of the south slope. The study confirmed that more frost heave occurred on the north cut-slopes than on the south cut-slopes. Vegetation surveys were conducted on five cut-slope plots. Considering the dominant species found above the cut-slopes, vegetations in all the plots are expected to succeed to pine and oak in the future. The dominant species appearing on the cut-slopes of the study area were exotic species because the elapsed time of the site was only 2 - 4 years.
This study aimed to identify weathering factors and to assess the conservation environment through microclimatic analysis of Hyeonpung Seokbinggo (ice-storing stone warehouse). The stone blocks inside Seokbinggo suffered crack, displacement, break-out, exfoliation, efflorescence, brown and black discoloration, and biological colonization. Biological colonization represented the maximum deterioration rate(24%) among those weathering forms. The indoor microclimate showed parallel patterns with outdoor one, but the indoor temperature and relative humidity ranged far narrower than outdoor and remained steady. The environmental characteristics resulted from blocking-out of outdoor heat by the closed entrance and surrounding microtopography. This prevented water condensation and freezing effects, so that it reduced physical deterioration of rock, and maximized ice-storing effect for long time. However, contrary to positive effect, extremely high relative humidity over 99% accelerated biological colonization inside the Seokbinggo.

The demand for wireless technology in plant structure has recently been increasing due to several advantages such as installation cost reduction, easy placement, easy extension and aesthetic benefits. Among the many wireless technologies, ZigBee is one of the most useful for plant structure; a wireless plant networking system can be configured using ZigBee alone. This research proposes a ZigBee to use for extreme cold region and thereby enable integration of wired and wireless plant monitoring systems. In this study, in order to assess the performance of ZigBee measured data by thermocouple were examined based on the results from laboratory tests between existing ZigBee and developed ZigBee. From the experiment results, performance of developed ZigBee in harsh environment can be increased well.
