  • On October 26, 1987, the authors encountered a case of human thelasiasis involving both eyes. The case in Chollapuk-do, Korea, a farmer aged 23, complained of mild lacrimation for 3 weeks followed by 1 week duration of foreign body sensation in both eyes prior to examination of eyes. The conjunctivae of both eyes appeared slightly reddened. No other abnormalities were noticed. Total 6 worms, one male and two females from each eye, were removed, parasitologically studied, and identified as Thelazia callipaeda Railliet and Henry, 1910.

  • In Korea, it is not satisfactory in the product design since Kansei engineering or Ergnomics is not very active and well considered. When designing a mini-component, the user's emotion was not considered well. It is typical to have a rectangular shape, dark- colored outside in a mini-component design. Therefore, the users have to select with available choice from the manufacture's traditional designs. In this study, a new smin- component was designed to be suitable for a new generation's (10 to mid-20) sensation. First of all, an ergonomic problems were investigated. And then, the survey was per- formed to consider the emotion of the new generation. After that, the new design was made to reflect the new generation's trend and preference. In addition, the high-touch (human-centered design) and human touch (the product to give a sensible satisfaction for human) concepts were added.

  • The paper aims to present a new human-scale haptic advice for virtual environment named Scaleable-SPIDAR (Space Interface Device for Artificial Reality), which can provides different aspects of force feedback sensations, associated mainly with weight, contact and inertia, to both hands within a cave-like space. Tensioned string techniques are used to generate such haptic sensations, while keeping the space transparent and unbulky. The device is scaleable so as to enclose different cave-like working spaces. Scaleable-SPIDAR is coupled with a large screen where a computer generated virtual world is displayed. The used approach is shown to be simple, safe ad sufficiently accurate for human-scale virtual environment.

  • The authors present the first human case of Clinostomum pharyngitis in Taegu, Korea. The patient was a 56-year old male who visited an otolarlngology clinic due to foreign body sensation and pain of the pharyngeal region for 3-4 days. He used to eat raw fresh-water fish. Otolaryngological examinations revealed a living worm adhered to the right posterior pharyngeal wall. The worm removed was identified as C. complonotum after morphological observations. It is likely that more attention should be paid to eating raw fresh-water fish in Korea siC regards to Clinostomunl pharyngitis.

  • Subjective touch sensation for Korean traditional silk fabrics was evaluated, in order to compare tactile sensory aspects of Korean and American subjects and to determine mechanical properties of the fabrics affecting the sensation psychophysically. Eight aspects of touch sensation including hardness, smoothness, coarseness, coolness, pliability, crispness, heaviness, and thickness were rated by semantic deferential scale. The mechanical properties of fabrics were measured by Kawabata Evaluation System (KES). Both of Koreans and Americans showed fairly similarities to each other in subjective smoothness, coarseness, and crispness. On the contrary, as for coolness and pliability, Koreans were found as feeling the silk fabrics more sensitively than Americans were in that they rated some of modified leno fabrics as very cool and stiff in touch. Coolness and pliability by Koreans were affected mainly by surface and bending properties while those by Americans were determined mostly by compressional and tensile characteristics as well as sulfate properties

  • Data obtained for sensory evaluation have a wide dispersion and fuzziness since human sensory organs are used as a means of measuring sensation instead of measuring instruments. Such dispersion and fuzziness are caused by all kinds of time error and have a great influence on the sensory evaluation, but most of previous papers not consider time errors. In this study, the comparative judgement capability of the evaluator was discriminated by means of the eigen- structure analysis on the premise that evaluation values of sensory evaluators obtained by a paired-comparison become different by the order of sample presentation.

  • A Psychophysical scaling method called magnitude estimation is frequently used to evaluate human sensation to physical stimuli. This paper described the procedure of magnitude estimation data analysis which consists of four modulus; reponse space, CMM(Cross-Modality Matdhing)/merge, standardization, scale building & data analysis method. This procedure is being developed as an expert system in which the four analysis modulus are programmed so that a novice user can perform the analysis.

  • This study focusses on how the skirt or slacks wearing habit affects the female physiology in her daily life. The healthy female college students have been trained to wear either skirt (group A) or slacks (group B) from late August to early January in order to study the effects of clothing habit on thermoregulatory responses. Also, the themoregulatory responses have been compared the healthy students groups with a physical trained students group (group C) to examine the effects of clothing habit. The changes in body temperatures of students have been studied under the cool environmental condition (15$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, 60$\pm$5% RH, 0.25 m/sec). The results were as follows: 1. Rectal temperature of the group A was 0.4$^{\circ}C$ lower at 36.9$^{\circ}C$ than that of the group B The groups A and B were found identical before the training, while the groups A and C were identical after the training. 2. Mean skin temperature of the group A was 1.2$^{\circ}C$ lower than that of the group B. The groups A and C were identical after the training. 3. The thermal sensation was reflected to be cool by the group A and to be cold by the group B. As for the humidity sensation, the group A felt average, whereas the group B reported between average and slightly humid. In the case of comfort sensation, the group A felt average, while the group B felt between average and slightly uncomfortable. In summary, the 18 weeks of training has provided the skirt group an improved acclimatization to the cold environment . This group also showed an insulative-hypothermic adapta lion in a cold ambient temperature, as was the case for the physical trained group. It is concluded that wearing a skirt for a long period of time can be helpful to human body through gaining of thermoregulatory abilities.
