Ownership is the bundle of rights that allow a person or institute to use and control an object. As the biomedical science is advanced, we should consider whether human biological material should be recognized as property. Whether separated parts of the human body can be objects of ownership is a different issue. Many thought that separated parts of the human body could not be objects of ownership. This idea is primarily based on this thought: even if a piece of human biological material is separated from a person, it still relates to that person, and if treated as a thing, human dignity may be harmed. However, some commentators have admitted separated parts of the human body into the realm of property. Though a person owns his/her body or body parts, this does not mean that he/she can do anything he/she desires. There are many natural and social limitations to exercise the ownership of human biological material as discussed above. Human dignity is the core consideration whether or not we recognize that ownership of human biological material biomedical research and knowledge.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to present trends and contents of herbal Korean Medicine patches by analyzing the herbal patches in Korean patents. Methods : Electronic search for herbal patch patents was conducted in KIPRIS (Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service). Korean patents that were registered by January 1, 2018 were selected in study. Patents that were not using herbal medicine or not related to patch were excluded in this study. The applicant, application date, International Patent Classification (IPC), contents and adhesive site of patches, target diseases, model of experiment and extraction methods were analyzed. Results : A total of 17 patents were included in this study. In applicant analysis, 61.5% of applicants were corporations. All IPCs in patents were involved in Section A (Human necessities & Agriculture) and 66.7% of IPCs were A61K (Preparations formedical, dental, ortoiletpurposes). In types of patch, 8 patents were hydrogel patches (47.1%), followed by 3 heating patches (17.6%). Skin related symptoms were the most targeted diseases (52.9%), Human was the most used model in experiments. Solvent extraction and hot water extraction were used frequently, and some patents had no limit for extraction were also existed. Conclusions : The study results will be helpful to diversify formulation of herbal medicine, to expand market scale of patent and to develop new application using Korean medicine. In order to establish sufficient data for utilizing patent technologies, more patent studies providing analyzed patent information are needed.
The purpose of this study was to explore the importance level, the present level, and the educational need for 21 business ethics components among 2-year and 4-year college students majoring in fashion. Survey data of 364 students (128 students of 2-year colleges and 238 students of 4-year colleges) were analyzed through descriptive statistics, Borich's needs assessment for education, The Locus for Focus model, exploratory factor analysis, and t-test. The results showed five business ethics components ranked highly as educational needs among college students: 'reducing waste', 'using vegan materials', 'using human-friendly materials', 'strengthening sustainable technologies', and 'promoting workers' rights'. Those components should be integrated into curricula of fashion majors in colleges. Students in 4-year colleges considered most of 21 business ethics components as more important than did students at 2-year colleges. More needs for education were observed by 4-year college students in eight business ethics components than by 2-year college students. In addition, a positive attitude toward business ethics education and the suitability of business ethics education were higher among 4-year college students than 2-year college students. Results provide a guideline for business ethics education by indicating a list of business ethics components that urgently needed to be adapted to fashion curricula according to each college type.
Purpose: This study aimed to implement a model for predicting the presence or absence of suicidal ideation in adolescents by using the decision tree analysis method. Methods: This study is a secondary data analysis using the 2019 Child and Adolescent Human Rights Survey, the most recent data published by the Korea Youth Policy Institute. In order to identify the variables predicting suicidal ideation, a decision tree analysis with suicidal ideation as a dependent variable was performed. Results: This study found that the variables of life satisfaction, insults from parents, sex, and cyber-bullying experience of adolescents were selected as significant predictors of suicidal ideation. It is predicted that 58.2% of subjects with low life satisfaction would think of suicide. Among them, the probability of thinking of suicide increased to 72.7% in the case of unhappy people, and the probability of thinking of suicide in the case of a woman increase to 82.9%. Conclusions: It is necessary to consider family, school, and society environment to prevent suicidal ideation of adolescents.

Social discourses surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in the fashion industry are vital as they extend beyond language and encompass social practices. This study aimed to understand how discourses on DE&I with in the fashion industry are reconstructed and practiced in society. Therefore, this paper analyzed DE&I in the fashion industry, by focusing on the New York Times articles, employing a quantitative research model based on corpus analysis and a qualitative approach through critical discourse analysis. Results of the analysis of textual practice, showed that the New York Times emphasized black individuals as the central discourse and created a critical racial narrative regarding DE&I in the fashion industry characterized by a dichotomy of black vs. white confrontation. Furthermore, results of the discourse practice analysis revealed that the dichotomy of racial confrontation in the New York Times article tended to select the subject of discourse related to racial DE&I in the fashion industry according based on social and historical context. Thirdly, the analytical results of sociocultural practices indicated that the dichotomous racial discourse between black and white, propagated by the New York Times, spread across social media, transforming fashion from an industry to a domain where black individuals struggle for human rights.
Medical education can provide students with an opportunity to encounter marginalized communities and motivate them to become involved with the needs of disadvantaged people. The College of Medicine of The Catholic University of Korea includes a social service program in the medical humanities and social sciences curriculum. The course has lectures on social welfare, human rights, and social service, as well as four days of social service in 'Flower Village,' which is a Catholic social welfare institution. This study analyzes the satisfaction, feedback, and reflection papers of students who completed the social service program and provides an educational model for the medical humanities and social sciences. Students' satisfaction with the program was scored at 4.23 out of 5. A qualitative study of students' reflection papers derived 7 key phrases, among which 'nature and practice of social service,' 'holistic understanding of humans,' 'empathy and communication,' and 'social responsibility' are identified as goals of this program and 'happiness,' 'respect for human life,' and 'compassion' are good indicators of students' compassionate participation. Encounters with marginalized communities within the medical curriculum allows students to serve people with social difficulties and work for the improvement of their living conditions. Students learn to approach social needs with concern and empathy and seek ways to contribute to those communities.
In this study, Horgan(2005)'s argument highlights the centrality to any successful counter-terrorism strategy of understanding the social context in which terrorist ideologies take root. Counter-terrorism refers to the practices, tactics, techniques, and strategies that governments, militaries, police departments and corporations adopt in response to terrorist threats and/or acts, both real and imputed. Pickering et al.(2008) historically explained four counter-terrorism strategies as traditional counter-terrorism model, community intelligence model, belonging model, social cohesion model. It is thus proposed that counter-terrorism strategies are based in established networks within the community and proactively seeks to continually renew these relationships between the community and police. This approach must embrace an explicit recognition of multiculturalism and its political imperative and drive in a policing organization explicitly committed to social cohesion and human rights in both discourse and practice. We, therefore, suggests community tree counter-terrorism approaches, or community intelligence model, belonging model and social cohesion model to apply to counter-terrorism agencies in Korea. These models are on the basis of Pickering et al.'s counter-terrorism models, which by using community policing to boot socially cohesion police are better able to position themselves as mediators to negotiate settlements between the competing demands of different social groups.
Clinical trials of drugs on humans is the final and most important stage in evaluating the safety and efficacy of the drugs. Good Clinical Practice(GCP) standards were announced in 1987 to protect testees' rights as well as to ensure validity of the clinical trial results, but its implementation has been delayed until now. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the preparedness of the designated institutions to abide by GCP standards during clinical trials, and thereby to determine GCP implementability at the institutions. Survey on the status of clinical trials was conducted for the designated 83 clinical trial hospitals. Response rate was 95.2%. Donabedian's quality assessment model was applied as the basic framework for the study. And the relative - weights for the evaluation items were determined by expert's evaluation. Among the designated 83 hospitals, 39 conducted clinical trials to obtain drug manufacturing approval from 1990 to 1994. Only 19 institutions are found to be able to meet the requirements of KGCP. Structure variables - manpower, organization, and facility -, which are the basic elements for GCP, are evaluated as unsatisfied in many hospitals. Institutions which established IRB accounted for 41 or 51.9%, but those who have a protocol evaluation guideline, or Adverse Drug Reaction(ADR) reporting system were only 12 and 21 institutions, respectively. Also, the institutions providing educational programs on conducting clinical trials are few - 20. The study results indicates that the level of conducting KGCP is unsatisfactory. However, more institutions are expected to be able to meet the standards soon because GCP standards does not require so much regulation on facilities, but stress importance on research methodology and human right. At present as the institutions for clinical trials are primarily training hospitals with residency programs, such efforts as education will accelerate the implementability of GCP in Korea. Institutions must build the appropriate infrastructure and government must prepare to strongly enforce KGCP before it can successfully take place.
The purpose of the present study was to generate a list of business ethics components according to business area for small and medium-sized fashion companies. Based on the literature review, 21 components of business ethics components were identified within five business areas. Ten CEOs(Chief Executive Officers) each participated in an in-depth interview, sharing ethical and unethical cases from their own businesses. Constant comparative analysis was used to generate important business ethics components from those cases. In results, important business ethics components for each business area are: 1) using human-friendly materials, strengthening sustainable technologies, using vegan materials, concerning safe process, and reducing waste in the material production and sourcing area, 2) enhancing an efficiency in design, developing recycle/reuse designs, avoiding to copy designs, and using messages for public interest in the product design area, 3) concerning fair-trade, reducing harmful substance, saving energy, and using ethical supply channels in the distribution and logistics area, 4) acquiring certifications, promoting consumer protection, avoiding exaggerative/false advertisements, and promoting social contributions in the management and marketing area, and 5) promoting workers' rights, complying with the law, and investing on employee educations in the labor management area. All of the ethical and unethical cases of the ten companies have involved aspects of the 21 components, thereby enhancing understandings on how each issue is being seriously considered and/or handled in the small and medium-sized fashion companies. Study findings may provide a basis for development of a research model for quantitative studies and/or educational programs related to business ethics in the fashion industry.
Recently, de-identification of personal information, which has been a long-cherished desire of the data-based industry, was revised and specified in August 2020. It became the foundation for activating data called crude oil[2] in the fourth industrial era in the industrial field. However, some people are concerned about the infringement of the basic rights of the data subject[3]. Accordingly, a development study was conducted on the Batch De-Identification Tool, a personal information de-identification automation tool. In this study, first, we developed an image labeling tool to label human faces (eyes, nose, mouth) and car license plates of various resolutions to build data for training. Second, an object recognition model was trained to run the object recognition module to perform de-identification of personal information. The automated personal information de-identification tool developed as a result of this research shows the possibility of proactively eliminating privacy violations through online services. These results suggest possibilities for data-based industries to maximize the value of data while balancing privacy and utilization.
