The metacognitive experience of the ease or difficulty with which new, external information can be processed, referred to as 'processing fluency,' has been shown to influence a wide range of human judgments including truth judgments, familiarity judgments, risk perception, evaluation, and preference (see Alter and Oppenheimer 2009 for a review). The current research explores the possibility of a consumer's product innovativeness judgment based on the difficulty of processing new information. In specific, this study examines if the inferential link between (dis)fluency-(un)familiarity can feed into the perception of innovativeness. This study also explores how a consumer's processing motivation can moderate the consumer's reliance on processing fluency in judgments and how the influence of fluency can vary depending on judgment task orders. In an experiment, participants rated a new product's innovativeness and then indicated their product attitude (or vice versa depending on the judgment task order condition) after reading a product review article that was printed in either an easy-to-read or a difficult-to-read font (for fluency manipulation). The findings show that low need for cognition individuals infer higher product innovativeness when processing product information is difficult rather than easy, consistent with the common assumption that 'new information is more difficult to process than familiar information.' The findings also suggest that once low fluency is attributed to innovativeness, it may no longer lead to a negative response to the product. High need for cognition individuals' judgments on product innovativeness are not affected by fluency. The findings also demonstrate a judgment task order effect on the use of fluency in judgments (e.g., Xu and Schwarz 2005). This study provides the first evidence that an individual's fluency experience can be used as a source of information in product innovativeness judgments especially under low processing motivation conditions. The findings can help marketers better understand the malleability of consumer judgments and perceptions of product characteristics (e.g., product innovativeness) by demonstrating an interesting interplay of processing fluency, processing motivation, and judgment task-related contextual factors.
The term and concept of "immortality" has garnered a considerable amount of attention worldwide. However, research on this topic is lacking, and the question of when the mind of a deceased individual survives death has yet to be answered. This research investigates whether morality and mind perception of the dead correlate with immortality. Study 1 measures the perceived immortality of people, who were good or evil in life. The results show that the perceived morality is related with the perceived immortality. Moreover, participants indicated the extent to which each person had maintained a degree of morality and agency/experience of the mind. Therefore, morality and mind perception toward a person are related to perceived immortality. In Study 2, participants were asked to read three essays on robots (good, evil, and nonmoral), and had to indicate the extent to which each robot maintains a degree of immortality, morality, and agency/experience of the mind. The results show that good spirits of a robot are related to higher scores of mind perception toward the robot, resulting in increasing tendency of perceived immortality. These results provide implications that the morality of humans and robots can mediate the relationship between mind perception and immortality. This work extends on previous research on the determinants of social robots for overcoming difficulties in human-robot interaction.

It can be said to be the cognitive ability to read the meaning of the environment given to humans. Therefore, if we can grasp the perception of space while moving and human behavior as a response to perception, it will be possible to predict how to grasp it from a human point of view in a space that does not exist. Studies that approach from the point of view that human thoughts or minds are dominated by behavior as well as that human behavior is dominated by thoughts or minds, have begun to attract attention from the late 2000s. The physical experience is reminiscent of a metaphorically connected abstract concept, which ultimately affects the judgment or evaluation of a particular object. However, studies that have been carried out so far have been limited to studies on the difference in perception and judgment depending on the objects to be viewed, the objects to be touched, and the objects to which they are carried. In this study, we tried to find out that the physical movement of the body in the upward or downward direction affects the psychological judgment differently. In the first experiment, a pair of words that were considered to be connected metaphorically was tested. In the second experiment, the subjects tried to solve the complicated calculation problem in a short time, and then they watched the video related to the upward movement or downward movement, and then proceeded to measure the psychological judgment. As a result, it was found that 'downward movement' of the body has a metaphorical connection with 'closure', while 'upward movement' is related to 'progress'. In the case of downward-experienced group compared to upward-experienced group, the reverse intentions of their own decision were low, and the confidences in their own decision and the expectations for performance were high.
Objective: The aim of this study is to reclassify human errors and to develop hands-on tools to apply the new classification for preventing human error accidents in highway construction site. Background: The main cause of accidents in highway construction was reported as the carelessness of workers. However, such diagnosis could not help us operationally prevent accidents in real workplace. Method: The accidents in highway construction were reanalyzed and the causes of human error were reclassified in order to educate and improve the awareness of human error in highway construction. Field survey and interview with safety managers and workers were conducted to find the causal relationship between the actual accidents and the human errors. Results: The most frequently observed human errors in highway construction were classified into six categories such as mis-perception, distraction, memory fail, slip, cognition error and mis-judgment. In order to provide hands-on tools to increase the awareness of human error in construction field, the human error checklist and card sorting diary were developed. Especially, the card sorting diary was designed to increase the ability in human error inspection of safety manager at construction site. Moreover, posters were developed based on actual accident cases. Conclusion: We suggested that the improved awareness and analytical report on checklist, card sorting diary and posters for construction field could collectively prevent the accident. Application: The classification of human error, hands-on tools and posters can be directly applicable on highway construction site. This analytical and collective approach preventing human error-related accident could be extended to other construction workplaces.
This study analyzed the observation characteristics on space by analyzing through the visual perception experiment to the image dates from the original space and the rotated space of it. The results of this study are as fellow as: First, most frequently observed points were, lower end mainly from the center was more observed in the original space while upper end mainly from the center was more observed in the rotated space. Therefore, it is able for us to learn whether the space has the same design, the length of time focusing on one point differentiates as the image rotates. Second, differentiation in observation part, as shown in the case study, can be seen as a consequence of changes in perspective composition. The test indicates that when a design is presented to an observer, the observer's examining point would vary according to where the indoor perspective drawing places a vanishing point. Third, in zones I and II, observation was focused on lower end in the original picture while on the rotated picture there were more focus on the upper end and perpendicularity view of the indoor. Fourth, this study analyzed the mean value of the observation part. As one method wants to see how to change the observation characteristics by rotating the original space, few deviation from the mean value will be interpret to have similar observation characteristics over all even if it has the differences of watching place by rotated space.
With the development of artificial intelligence(AI), the jobs of many human experts are threatened, and this also applies to the legal profession. This study attempted to investigate whether AI can actually replace humans in the legal profession, especially the role of judges making final judgments. For this purpose, from the perspective of uniqueness neglect, this study was conducted to confirm the effect of involvement and the severity on acceptance of the judgment made by the AI judge (Experiment 1) and the AI jury (Experiment 2). The involvement was manipulated as if the subject who was sentenced for committing a crime was his or her family (mother, father) or stranger, and the severity was manipulated by the extent of the damage, the perception of the crime, and the number of applied crimes. In Experiment 1, the interactive effect of involvement and severity was found. Specifically, when the involvement was low, the acceptance of AI judges was higher in high severity (vs. low severity). Conversely, when the involvement was high, the acceptance of AI judges was higher in low severity (vs. high severity). The same interactions as in Experiment 1 occurred in Experiment 2. Specifically, when the involvement was low, a larger number of AI jury members were allocated in high severity (vs. low severity). On the other hand, when the involvement was high, the number of AI juries increased in low severity (vs. high severity). This study has implications in that it is the first experimental study in Korea on artificial intelligence legal judgment and that it presents the prospects for the jobs of legal experts.
Web sites provide the first impression of an organization. For many organizations, web sites are crucial to ensure sales or to procure services within. When a person opens a web site, the first impression is probably made in a few seconds, and the user will either say or move on to the next site on the basis of many factors. One of the factors that may influence users to stay or go is the page aesthetics. Another reason may involve a user's judgment of the site's credibility. Our findings indicate that when the same content is presented using different levels of aesthetic treatment, the content with a higher aesthetic content credibility. Our study suggests that this effect is operational within the first few seconds in which a user views a web page. Given the same content, a higher aesthetic treatment will increase perceived credibility.
To overcome the pandemic, a new strategy for innovation is in demand throughout the value chains of the fashion industry that emphasize the importance of fashion technology. Accordingly, as various viewpoints and fields of debate are unfolding to consider the direction of change led by fashion technology, it is necessary to make an active value judgment precedent by understanding the differences between various opinions. This study aims to derive keywords from fashion technology used during the pandemic, to infer the characteristics of each type of perspective and to understand their characteristics. For the research, this study combines text mining analysis and content analysis. Text mining analysis is used to find statistical patterns by collecting keywords from big data from online media, and content analysis is used to interpret the data qualitatively. After analyzing the results of this study, the following observations are made. First, the perspective of positive acceptance seeks to maximize the perception and sensory action of fashion through technology; this amplifies experience, an opportunity for innovation and efficiency. Second, critical vigilance highlights the side effects of radical changes in fashion technology, characterized by concerns about capital-centered polarization, threats to human rights, and infringement of creative thinking. Lastly, the perspective of gradual adoption is the gradual convergence of technologies, characterized by the pursuit of an appropriate balance.

The metal oxide varistor (MOV) is a major component of the surge protection devices (SPDs) currently in use. The device is judged to be faulty when fatigue caused by the continuous inflow of lightning accumulates and reaches the damage limit. In many cases, induced lightning resulting from lightning strikes flows in to the device several times per second in succession. Therefore, the frequency or the rate at which the SPD is actually exposed to stress, called a surge, is outside the range of human perception. For this reason, the protective device should be replaced if it actually approaches the end of its life even though it is not faulty at present, currently no basis exists for making the judgment of remaining lifetime. Up to now, the life of an MOV has been predicted solely based on the number of inflow surges, irrespective of the magnitude of the surge current or the amount of energy that has flowed through the device. In this study, nonlinear data that shows the damage to an MOV depending on the count of surge and the amount of input current were collected through a high-voltage test.
