Kendo is one of the popular sports in modem life. Head, wrist and thrust attack are the fast skill to get a score on a match. Human muscle skeletal model was developed for biomechanical study. The human model was consists with 19 bone-skeleton and 122 muscles. Muscle number of upper limb, trunk and lower limb part are 28, 60, 34 respectively. Bone was modeled with 3D beam element and muscle was modeled with spar element. For upper limb muscle modelling, rectus abdominis, trapezius, deltoideus, biceps brachii, triceps brachii muscle and other main muscles were considered. Lower limb muscle was modeled with gastrocenemius, gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and related muscles. The biomechanical stress and strain analysis of human muscle was conducted by proposed human bone-muscle finite element analysis model under head, wrist and thrust attack for kendo training.
The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationships between food expenditures and household socio-economic characteristics. Data used were taken from the 1996 National Survey of Family Income and Expenditure Survey. This study revealed that total food expenditures for urban salary and wage earner households were 347,798 won, which accounted for 27.0 percent of the total consumption expenditures and food away from home expenditures marked for 8.4 percent of the total consumption expenditures. Household income, household size, age of household head, occupation of household head, education of household head, housing tenure, wife's employment status, gender of household head, and children's age were all important factors in predicting the food consumption expenditures for urban salary and wage earner households.
A numerical human head/neck model was constructed for analyzing the implication in decleration injuries. This model consists of nine rigid bodies representing the head, cervical vertebrae C1-C7, and T1. These rigid bodies were connected by intervertebral disks described by massless beam elements. Muscles and ligaments were also incoperated in the model represented by nonlinear spring and viscoblastic element respectively Agreement of the analytical kinematic response with the results of experimental data from a volunteer run was satisfactory. Moreover, possible injury estimation from the calculated moment, force variations in the disc, and force variation in ligaments matched well with clinical observations.
With the emerging knowledge about tumor biology specific for human papillomavirus (HPV)-related head and neck cancers, the classical understanding about the curative surgery in head and neck cancers are starting to progress, customized for their HPV-associations and ultimately specific for tumor biologic characteristics. The common rule for surgery should reflect the biologic characteristics of target tumors, but still, multi-institutional large-scale data could be scarce, due to the subjective feature of surgical treatment itself. However, the impact of HPV for margin determination is now being questioned by multiple groups, and typical example is European Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG)-3311 study. Here, we review the impact of viral association for surgical decision and its biological background and implications.
This paper is concerned with the development and evaluation of the camera calibration method for a real-time head tracking system. Tracking of head movements is important in the design of an eye-controlled human/computer interface and the area of virtual environment. We proposed a video-based head tracking system. A camera was mounted on the subject's head and it took the front view containing eight 3-dimensional reference points(passive retr0-reflecting markers) fixed at the known position(computer monitor). The reference points were captured by image processing board. These points were used to calculate the position (3-dimensional) and orientation of the camera. A suitable camera calibration method for providing accurate extrinsic camera parameters was proposed. The method has three steps. In the first step, the image center was calibrated using the method of varying focal length. In the second step, the focal length and the scale factor were calibrated from the Direct Linear Transformation (DLT) matrix obtained from the known position and orientation of the camera. In the third step, the position and orientation of the camera was calculated from the DLT matrix, using the calibrated intrinsic camera parameters. Experimental results showed that the average error of camera positions (3- dimensional) is about $0.53^{\circ}C$, the angular errors of camera orientations are less than $0.55^{\circ}C$and the data aquisition rate is about 10Hz. The results of this study can be applied to the tracking of head movements related to the eye-controlled human/computer interface and the virtual environment.
The human head is identified as the body region most frequently involved in life-threatening injuries. Extensive research based on experimental, analytical and numerical methods has sought to quantify the response of the human head to blunt impact in an attempt to explain the likely injury process. Blunt head impact arising from vehicular collisions, sporting injuries, and falls leads to relative motion between the brain and skull and an increase in contact and shear stresses in the meningeal region, thereby leading to traumatic brain injuries. In this paper the properties and material modeling of the subarachnoid space (SAS) as it relates to Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) is investigated. This was accomplished using a simplified local model and a validated 3D finite element model. First the material modeling of the trabeculae in the Subarachnoid Space (SAS) was investigated and validated, then the validated material property was used in a 3D head model. In addition, the strain in the brain due to an impact was investigated. From this work it was determined that the material property of the SAS is approximately E = 1150 Pa and that the strain in the brain, and thus the severity of TBI, is proportional to the applied impact velocity and is approximately a quadratic function. This study reveals that the choice of material behavior and properties of the SAS are significant factors in determining the strain in the brain and therefore the understanding of different types of head/brain injuries.
Polymerase chain reaction is widely used as a powerful tool in modern molecular biology. As there is agreement that the HPV is an important factor in the head and neck cancers, the detection of HPV DNA sequence in the head and neck cancer tissue has been tried in several ways. We used the PCR to detect the E1 open reading frames of the HPV in paraffin-embedded tissue of the patients with the head neck cancers. Eleven of the fifty-four tested samples (30%) showed positive result. We have analysed the clinical courses and characteristics related with Human Papillomavirus in those patients.

Ballistic impact on a soldier wearing a helmet can induce fatal injury, even if the helmet is not penetrated. Although studies on this type of injury have been performed, most of them have used an analytical model focused on head injury only. The injury of the neck muscles and cervical vertebrae by non-penetrating ballistic impact affects the survivability of soldiers, despite not inflicting fatal injury to the human body. Therefore, an analytical model of the head and neck muscles are necessary. In this study, an analysis of human body injury using the previously developed head model, as well as a cervical model with muscles, was performed. For the quantitative prediction of injury, the stress, strain, and HIC were compared. The results from the model including the cervical system indicated a lower extent of injury than the results from the model excluding them. The results of head injury were compared with other references for reliability.
Background : The most frequently reported risk factors for head and neck suamous cell carcinoma are smoking and alcohol. But in a recent overview, human papilloma virus(HPV) infection was revealed the important carcinogenic factor in oropharyngeal cancer. We aimed to clarify whether HPV directly effects on the oncogenesis and biologic behavior of hean and neck squamous cell carcinoma by comparison with infection prevalence, and physical status of virus. Material and Method : We used HPV genotyping DNA chip(Biocore, Korea, Seoul) arrayed by multiple oligonucleotide probes of L1 sequence of 26 types of HPV and HPV genotypes are identified by fluorescence scanner. The copy numbers of HPV E2 and E6 open reading frames(ORF) were assessed using a TaqMan-based 5'-exonuclease quantitative real-time PCR assay. The ratio of E2 to E6 copy numbers was calculated to determine the physical status of HPV-16 viral gene. Results : We observed a significant difference in HPV prevalence between tonsillar cancer group and control group(73.1% vs. 11.6%), and most of the HPVs were type 16(87.2%) and integrated(94.1%) state. In terms of oral tongue cancer, we demonstrate that 30.5% has integrated HPV-16 in cancer tissue. But Glottic cancer only 1% is related to HPV-16 integration. Conclusion : This study revealed significant relationship of HPV prevalence with oropharyngeal and oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Most of HPV were 16 type and integrated or mixed, HPV-16 integration could be directly related to the carcinogenesis.

Based on FDTD(Finite-Difference Time-Domain) method the human head absorbed power radiated from a 1.8 GHz portable phone is computed. For this computation the 7 layered media for the human head modeling and the monopole antenna attached to metallic box for the portable phone are used. To reflect the real circumstances typical sizes of human heads and portable phones are considered in the calculation. The length of monopole antenna is 4.5 cm. Under the predetermined model the distribution of SAR over the human head are calculated, and from which the place of maximum SAR is near the head skin surface, not deep places far into the head. The computation shows the maximum SAR to be 1.4 mWg somewhat less than the internationally adopted value of 1.6 mW/g.
