  • The satellite thermal control H/W composed of two parallel channels working for heat pipe (HP) and phase change material (PCM) is suggested for the high heat dissipating component which works intermittently with short duty. In a limited point of view, the HP-PCM device is a kind of off-the-shelf component that requires no dedicated configuration and thermal designs to PCM. Therefore, it can be used with less impact on the program cost and schedule different from most of the PCM applications. In present study the typical honeycomb structure radiator applying the HP-PCM device is designed and the detail thermal math model is developed for numerical analyses. The result comparison between without and with PCM shows that the HP-PCM device redistributes the peak heat around the whole mission period through the alternate melting and freezing of PCM, and, as a result, the maximum and minimum temperatures are effectively alleviated. The drawback of PCM application due to low thermal conductivity can be successfully resolved by means of parallel arrangement of HP channel.

  • Objectives : This study was designed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of Hominis-Placenta (HP)on dopaminergic neurons. Methods : We examined the effect of invitro administration of HP against 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium( MPP+)-induced dopaminergic cell loss in primary mesencephalic culture and also used behavioral tests and performed analysis in the striatum and the substantia nigra of mouse brain, to confirm the effect of HP on dopaminergic neurons in an invivo 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine(MPTP)-induced PD mouse model. Animals were assigned to four groups: (1) Group 1(vehicle-treatedgroup), (2) Group 2(MPTPonlytreated group), (3) Group 3(MPTP+ saline-treated/$ST_{36}$ group), and (4) Group 4(MPTP+HP-treated/$ST_{36}$ group). HP at $20{\mu}L$ of 48 mg/kg dose was injected at $ST_{36}$ for 4 weeks at 2-day intervals. MPTP in saline was injected intraperitoneally each day for 5 days from the $8_{th}$ treatment of HP. We performed the pole test and rota-rod test on the first and seventh day after the last MPTP injection. To investigate the effect of HP on dopaminergic neurons, we performed analysis in the striatum and the substantia nigra of mouse brain after treatment with HP and/or MPTP. Results : Treatment with HP had no influence on cell proliferation and caused no cell toxicity in $PC_{12}$ and $HT_{22}$ cells. Our study showed that HP significantly prevented cell loss and protected neurites against MPP+ toxicity. Although the invivo treatment of HP herbal acupuncture at $ST_{36}$ showed a tendency to improve movement ability and protected dopaminergic cells and fibers in the substantia nigra and the striatum, it did not show significant changes compared with the MPTP treated group. Conclusions : These data suggest that HP could be a potential treatment strategy in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease.

  • Effect of dietary protein and lipid levels on compensatory growth of juvenile olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) was determined in suboptimal temperature ($13.4{\pm}1.42^{\circ}C$). Five hundred forty fish averaging 79.2 g were randomly distributed into 27 of 300 L flow-through tanks (20 fish/tank). Nine treatments were prepared in triplicate: fish were hand-fed with control (C) diet for 10 weeks (10WF-C); four fish groups were starved for 1 week and then fed with C, high protein (HP), high lipid (HL) and combined high protein and high lipid (HPL) diets for 9 weeks, referred to as 9WF-C, 9WF-HP, 9WF-HL, 9WF-HPL, respectively; and other four fish groups were starved for 2 weeks and then fed with C, HP, HL and HPL diets for 8 weeks, referred to as 8WF-C, 8WF-HP, 8WF-HL and 8WF-HPL, respectively. Weight gain and specific growth rate of fish in 9WF-HP, 9WF-HPL, 8WF-HP and 8WF-HPL treatments were higher than those of fish in 9WF-HL and 8WF-HL treatments. Feed efficiency of fish in 8WF-HP treatment was higher than that of fish in 9WF-C, 9WF-HL and 8WF-HL treatments. Protein efficiency ratio of fish in 10WF-C, 8WF-C, 8WF-HP and 8WF-HPL treatments was higher that that of fish in 9WF-HL and 8WF-HL treatments. Juvenile olive flounder subjected to 2-week feed deprivation could achieve full compensatory growth with dietary supplementation of protein or combined high protein and high lipid.

  • In order to reduce the increased hardness of beef bulgogi due to hydrostatic pressure (HP), kiwifruit (Actinidia chinensis) was applied. To understand the changes of shear force in beef bulgogi with kiwifruit induced by HP, changes in chemical properties of myofibril (Mf) with 10% kiwifruit induced by HP were investigated. From the SDS-PAGE patterns of Mf with 10% kiwifruit, there was an observed increase in the degradation of myosin heavy chain (MHC) by HP (300-500 MPa) to that by 0.1 MPa. This result indicates that HP may enhance enzyme action from a kiwifruit for the degradation of MHC, and the similar phenomenon occurred in the beef bulgogi with kiwifruit induced by HP. The shear force of beef bulgogi without a kiwifruit induced by 400 and 500 MPa significantly increased compared to that by 0.1 MPa (p<0.05). However, in the beef bulgogi with 10% or 20% kiwifruit, the shear force induced by 400 or 500 MPa was similar or slightly lower than that by 0.1 MPa. Consequently, adding kiwifruit to bulgogi could reduce the hardness of HP-induced beef bulgogi due to the enzyme action in the kiwifruit accelerated by HP.

  • Eggs obtained from 46 and 42 weeks old meat (Hybro) and layer (Leghorn) breeders flocks, respectively were used to examine the effects of genetic type of birds and egg size (small, medium and large) on variables of eggshell characteristics and hatchability traits. The variables measured were egg weight (EW), egg surface area (ESA) and eggshell characteristics (shell conductance (EC), per cent shell (PS), shell thickness (ST), shell volume (SV), shell density (SD) and hatchability traits (per cent hatchability (HP), early dead embryos (ED), late dead embryos (LD), pips with live embryos (PL) and pips with dead embryos (PD)). Genetic type of bird influenced all egg characteristics and HP of eggs. Eggs produced by the small Leghorn bird had lower EW, ESA, EC, ST, SV and HP than those produced by the heavy Hybro bird. The reduction of HP was associated with an increase in the percentage of ED and PL. Egg size influenced all variables measured except ST. Small size eggs had lower EW, ESA and EC and higher PS and SD than those of large eggs. Medium size eggs produced a higher HP when compared with that of large size eggs. The reduction of HP in large eggs was associated with higher percentage of ED, LD and PL. There were significant interactions between the genetic group of birds and egg size on LD and HP. Large egg size of Hybro birds had higher LD and lower HP than those of small size eggs produced by the same flock. However, There was no difference in HP and LD among the different egg sizes produced by Leghorn birds. It was concluded that genetic make up of birds and egg size influence eggshell characteristics and HP. The type of bird (heavy or small) influences the optimum egg size for successful hatching. Attention should be given to the size and eggshell characteristics of eggs of breeders' flocks for achieving maximum HP.

  • In this study, vacuum bag hot-press (V-HP) process can be used as an out-of-autoclave (OOA) process by improving the inefficient process of the autoclave forming method with excellent physical properties and surface quality. A carbon fiber composite was molded via V-HP process and analyzed the physical properties and microstructures between composites manufactured by autoclave (AC) process and hot-press process (HP). The tensile strength of the composite materials using the V-HP process was 320.6 MPa and the AC process samples found to be substantially close to the tensile strength of 335.3 MPa. As a result of confirming the surface quality of the composite material using SEM, it was confirmed that in the V-HP process, the removal state of pores due to volatile solvent in the resin was slightly lower than that of the AC process, but it had a considerably superior surface compared to the HP process.

  • HP0827 has two RNP motif which is a very common protein domain involved in recognition of a wide range of ssRNA/DNA.We acquired 3D NMR spectra of HP0827 which shows well dispersed and homogeneous signals which allows us to assign 98% of all $^1H_N$, $^{15}N$, $^{13}C_{\alpha}$, $^{13}C_{\beta}$ and $^{13}C$=O resonances and 90% of all sidechain resonances. The sequence-specific backbone resonance assignment of HP0827 can be used to gain deeper insights into the nucleic acids binding specificity of HP0827 in the future study. Here, we report secondary structure prediction of HP0827 derived from NMR data. Additionally, ssRNA/DNA binding assay studies was also conducted. This study might provide a clue for exact function of HP0827 based on structure and sequence.

  • The efficacy of standard therapeutic strategies for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is decreasing over time due to the emergence of drug-resistant strains. As an alternative, the present study investigated the capacity of Lactobacilllus paracasei (L. paracasei) HP7, isolated from kimchi, to inhibit H. pylori growth. The effects of L. paracasei HP7 on H. pylori adhesion and H. pylori-induced inflammation were examined in AGS human gastric adenocarcinoma epithelial cells and a mouse model of H. pylori SS1 infection. L. paracasei HP7 reduced H. pylori adhesion to AGS cells and suppressed the inflammatory response in infected cells by downregulating interleukin-8. H. pylori colonization in the stomach of C57BL/6 mice was demonstrated by rapid urease test, and results showed significant decrease in mice post-treated with L. paracasei HP7. Additionally, L. paracasei HP7 decreased gastric inflammation and epithelial lesions in the stomach of H. pylori-infected mice. These results demonstrate that L. paracasei HP7 treatment can inhibit H. pylori growth and is thus a promising treatment for patients with gastric symptoms such as gastritis that are caused by H. pylori infection.

  • In this paper, novel thiadiazole-thione surfactants including 5-heptyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thione (HpSDT), 5-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thione (PSDT) and 5-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thione (HPhSDT) were synthesized and originally introduced as collectors in froth flotation. Microflotation tests showed that HpSDT exhibited better flotation response to malachite than PSDT and HPhSDT, as well as excellent flotation selectivity against quartz. The contact angle results inferred that the hydrophobization intensity of these collectors toward malachite was in the order as HpSDT> PSDT> HPhSDT. ${\zeta}$-potential recommended a chemisorption of HpSDT on malachite surfaces. FTIR deduced that cupric or cuprous atoms might bond with the S and N atoms of HpSDT to form a conjugated ring. XPS further gave an additional evidence that HpSDT-Cu(I) complexes were produced on malachite surfaces via combining surface Cu atoms with HpSDT's N and S atoms, with reducing surface Cu(II) to Cu (I). The tighter orientation arrangement on malachite and stronger hydrophobicity rendered HpSDT to possess better flotation affinity toward malachite than PSDT and HPhSDT.

  • Four different pork patties were made with two levels, HP/FP-3% and HP/FP-6%, containing 3.0 and 6.0% HP(hot air dried sweet persimmon powder)/FP(freeze-dried sweet persimmon powder), respectively. After manufacture, the meat patties were packaged with  polyvinyl wrap and stored at 4℃ for 8 days. CTL(control) and HP-3% meat patties were significantly(p<0.05) higher in moisture content than the other samples. FP-6% was found higher in protein content than the other treatments. FP-3% had a higher fat content than other meat patty samples. However, ash contents were not found significantly(p>0.05) different among the meat patty samples. The value of pH, L* and a* values were decreased as the cold storage time increased in all treatments(p<0.05). WHC(water holding capacity) of CTL and HP-6% and cooking loss of HP-3% were significantly(p<0.05) decreased with increased storage period. The diameter and thickness of all meat patties decreased with increasing the storage period. VBN(volatile basic nitrogen) values of all meat patties were increased(p<0.05) with increased storage period. TBARS (thiobarbituric acid reactive substance) of treatments were higher than that of CTL during whole storage time. The number of microorganisms(Total plate counts, Escherichia coli.) were maintained below 4.61 log10 CFU/cm2 during the whole storage period. In sensory evaluation, treatment groups had higher(p<0.05) scores in aroma, flavor, color and overall acceptability.
