The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of family resources on social exclusion and the resilience of low-income families. To be more specific, this study categorized the level of social exclusion into five dimensions: work, housing, health, education, and social participation. Further, family resources were categorized into the two dimensions of "internal resources of the family" and "external resources of the family" in order to evaluate the effects of the two differentiated dimensions on social exclusion and the resilience of low-income families. The data of low-income families for the period of August 23 to September 28, 2012, were collected from community welfare centers that manage individual development accounts and local self-sufficiency centers; 302 cases were considered. The main results of this study were as follows: firstly, the model analysis proved that family resources as a parameter was significant, not only statistically but also theoretically and practically. Secondly, while a negative relationship was found between social exclusion and family resources, a positive relationship was found between family resources and resilience. This implied that the alleviation of a low-income family's social exclusion level could become an important intervention for the improvement of the family's functioning and strengths. Further, it implied that the qualitative improvement of the family's resources that affected the promotion of the resilience could be a basis for another practical intervention. These results suggested crucial implications for the development of comprehensive policies for addressing poverty issues.

Methods : We analyzed Ministry of Health and welfares report on the use and consumption of Korean medicine to fit the purpose of this study. Comparison between private insurance holders and non-holders was made in the areas of sociodemographic characteristics, patient distribution by disorders, total number of disorders and existence of complex diseases, general perception of Korean medicine, and medical expenses and visits. Logistic regression analysis was made to verify the private insurance coverage. Results : Among sociodemographic characteristics, significant differences were observed in age distribution, education, professions, income level, and housing factors. But genders, area of residence, and marital status didn't show significant differences. Other significant differences including side effects, experience with Korean medicine, herbal medicine and acupuncture treatments, and main visiting facilities were shown between private insurance holders and non-holders. Majority of disorders treated with Korean medicine were musculoskeletal issues, and criteria of number of disorders, multiple diseases factors, and medical expenses/visits showed significant differences between the two groups. Conclusions : Summarizing above results indicate that holding a private insurance in addition to National Health Insurance contributes significant influences on the use of Korean medicine.

Ovjectives: As the attention devoted to children's mental health increases, medical costs and burdens mount as well. In the present study, we evaluated the association between socioeconomic status(SES) and major child psychiatric symptoms. Methods: The subjects of this study were children of recruited from a mental health screening program in the Seoul Sungbuk mental health center over the course of 3 months. To establish the SES of each child, we collected data about each child's medical insurance, years of parental education, household income, family structure and housing. 149 children & parents completed questionnaires including the Childhood Depression Inventory(CDI) and the Korean Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale(K-ARS). Results: The mean K-ARS-P score was $12.1{\pm}11.1$ and the suspected prevalence of ADHD was 20.8%(n=31). The mean cm score was $12.9{\pm}7.9$, and the prevalence of suspected depression was 16.8%(25). Depressive symptoms and ADHD symptoms were both more severe than those observed in a previous epidemiologic study in Korea. Depressive symptoms were more closely associated with family SES status. Conclusion: SES status is one of the most important risk factors in the development of major child psychiatric symptoms. In our study we found that depressive symptoms in particular were most tightly associated with psychosocial factors. Evaluation of the risk factors, early screening and intervention for low SES children would be valuable mental health management tactics to implement in a community mental health system.

This study presents the effects and phenomenological meanings of child poverty on child development by implementing in-depth interviews with 19 adults and 20 children in Korean Welfare Qualitative Panel Study and analyzing multi-dimensional categories of child poverty experiences. By focusing on relative deprivation, this study lists the insider's view on poverty experiences such as pauperization, housing, health, education, child-raising, culture, family and child's dream, and then it describes poverty experiences in a heuristic and hermeneutic way from the child's view. Findings shows that poverty experiences of childhood are associated with negative child development experiences such as trauma, deprivation of growth and opportunity, childhood adultification, intergenerational transmission of poverty and limiting dreams. This qualitative study based on the insider's view, can contribute not only to profound understandings of multi-dimensional child poverty but to identification of client based policy demand, which enables poverty policy studies expand their boundaries.

As the local economy has become stagnant, various policies have been made to revitalize the enormous construction industry. However, it is difficult for these policies to achieve their objective, as the construction industry is not an island unto itself but is interconnected in complex ways with diverse other areas of the economy. Interviews and surveys were conducted with experts in Busan, in order to identify the causes of the stagnant economy in the local construction market. The main findings were as follows. First, cost reduction and realistic master plans are needed as a solution for the problems of the redevelopment housing plan. Second, the alleviation of the construction policy is also necessary in order to overcome the problems of not considering the local construction industry. Finally, vocational training and quality education are needed to address the low awareness of construction feasibility analysis and the lack of highly trained human resources. The results of the study will help efforts to revitalize the local construction industry, and will provide an opportunity to reconsider the differences between the experts on issues of the industry.
