People have experienced physical problems including vision problems with aging; some are normal and some are abnormal. When they have abnormal and impaired vision, they have a lower level of life satisfaction than their sighted peers. For the elderly with sight loss, well-designed housing could be an important indicator for their quality of life. Housing adjustment and modification could help the elderly cope with sight loss, do daily activities more independently, and lead to better quality of life. The purpose of this study is to investigate housing conditions for the elderly with vision impaired, state of housing adjustment or modifications, and the effects of housing conditions on the wellness of the elderly in Korea. For this study, 18 housing cases were investigated and a total number of 65 visually impaired people aged over 55 participated. Housing condition of those participated was poor. Most observed home hazards are level differences in living areas, obstacles in the hallway, confined space that is not allowed structural modification, swing doors from wardrobe or cabinets, color contrast, poor lightings, and etc. Majority of households participated in this study did not make modification or refurbishments, rather many of them tend to adapt themselves to their residential environments. Older adults living in better housing condition and under less difficult environments are likely to have higher life satisfaction. The effects of housing condition on wellness could be more influential when individual capabilities (e.g. health condition) are weaker. The findings underline that with intervention of individual characteristics, the effects of housing and physical environment on negative outcomes of vision loss would get ameliorated or reduced.
The objective of this study was to investigate changes in housing quality and residential satisfaction among the New Town movers. Numerous literatures pertaning to the subject were thoroughly reviewed, and a set of hypotheses was drawn therefrom. Methodology applied to the study included bivariate and multivariate analyses for both derivation of descriptive statistics and hypotheses testing. SPSS PC+ for window(version 6.2) was used to analyze the data collected by Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements(KRIHS) in 1993. The major findings are highlited as follows : 1) Regardless of the household income level and other characteristics housing quality has improved substantially by moving to new towns. 2) The level of residential satisfaction is increased as a result of moving to new towns. 3) Upward changes in housing quality strongly influence the change in residential satisfaction. Both variables to be highly correlated. 4) These most satisfied residents are those who moved to the large size of dwellings and they are mostly high income families.
The purpose of this study was to investigate housing characteristics of young renter households by locations using licensed microdata of the 2012 Korea Housing Survey. There were 1,020,216 renter households (weighted count) headed by persons between 20 and 34 years of age, and their housing characteristics were compared statistically across their residential locations (Capital Region, metropolitan cities, other areas). Major findings are as follows: (1) Capital Region young renters had the worst housing quality to have the greatest proportion of households living in units failed to meet national minimum housing standards, and/or in basement or semi-basement units; (2) Capital Region young renters had the greatest proportion of households that had housing cost burdens; and (3) 37.3% of young renter households in metropolitan areas and 33.5% in Capital Region were found to receive family support in order to afford current rental costs.
The purpose of this study were 1) to investigate the degree of quality of life and housing satisfaction and the variables to affect it, 2) to identify housing and community satisfaction between Seoul and Chung-Ju city residents and to compare it if there were any differences. The results were Seoul city residents' life and housing satisfactions are more higher than Chung-Ju's and housing variable influenced relatively higher degree to life satisfaction. Prefered housing and community features were identified and community satisfaction variables were investigated.

The purpose of this study is to suggest an Amenity Meaning of the residential Environment reflected on the Residents. It focuses on the Environmental Quality through interviews and surveys of Multi-Family Housing Estates. The demand of Amenity as Environmental Quality of the Residential Environment will increase significantly in a short period of time. The Amenity Meaning fuses psychological and material elements, Also, these relate synthetic Environmental Qualities with Naturally Friendly Housing Estates. Thus, this paper may be used primarily by researchers, housing developers who may wish to incorporate the environmental quality of housing development.
Our laboratory(FILK), an authorized quality inspection agency in Choong-Chung Buk Do and Kyung-Ki Do, has been executing quality inspection of the products of housing material manufacturers. This report, made for more details on inspection, introduces the quality inspection system of housing materials.

The residents, living in multi-family housing, prefer to have healthy and natural outdoor environmental for better human and environment quality. Thus, providing the high qulity of amenity has become a popular word in site planning and housing developments field. However, the scope and definition of amenity have not yet clearly identified and it becomes and issue in planning and development field. The purpose of this study isto examine and to evaluate the amenity and its implicationi for site planning so that analysis methods such as to interview and survey with residents were carried out. The results of this study are summarized below; The amenity of residential environment means total environmental quality to the residents in a broad sense. Abundent green environment would be very important factor to increase the amenity of residential environment so that the expansion of green field would improve the quality of multifamily housing. The expansion of green environment and biotope was the most important factor to increase the symbiosis system between residents and outdoor environment. And the amenity should be conformed to the certain standand of environmental quality and the high quality of amenity would be increased significantly in the future for residental developments. Thus, it should be accomplished by preparing practical methods in means of discriminative strategy products planning principle.
The primary purpose of this study is to prove the relationship between housing environment and mental health with depression and self-esteem in the republic of Korea. The raw data of 10,608 respondents, was gathered from the 4th wave of Korea Welfare Panel Study (KoWePS) in 2009. Some variables related to housing environment and mental health were selected in KoWePS' data. Data was analyzed by SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 17.0. The major results are as follow: 1) Householder economic variables significantly relate to housing environment and resident mental health. 2) Housing environment variables are significantly related to resident mental health, and these variables explain 4.3% of depression and 6.7% of self-esteem. 3) Throughout path analysis of economic, housing environment, and mental health variables, housing environment variable is a parameter. In conclusion, these results show that better quality of housing environment would contribute to the residents' better mental health.
This research was aimed at finding clues of improving residential quality of the Urbanistic Housing which was introduced for the small household of 1-2 residents. It was the laws on communal amenity in multi-family housing that this research concentrated on. Looking into the multi-family housing standards for small household of Korea, Japan and UK, Japanese One-room housing Ordinance of Tokyo-do laid stress on avoiding conflict among residents and getting people mixed together. And UK's concentrated on every individual rooms inside HMO and suggested certain level of qualified life through the careful standards. On the other hand, Korea's just suggested minimum housing with unit households and nearly no amenity except for parking lots. There should be more than a physical space with some area which satisfies basic physiological needs in a residence. To become a quality residence filled with relationship, it is necessary that Urbanistic Housing are also required to provide communal amenities, not as much as regular housing for regular household but much more than Quasi-housing, the minimum residence. And it should be ensured by the legal system to make it more effective.
The recent paradigm shift in the construction industry has led to a growing demand for industrial construction. In particular, interest in modular housing, one of the areas of industrialization architecture, is soaring. Modular housing is a construction method for completing a building by transporting factory-built modules to the site and assembling them. However, modular housing in Korea has various problems such as errors in design books, lack of factory drawings, and lack of on-site construction plans. BIM is a tool for accumulating, producing and managing various information through 3D models and is a solution to solve various problems of modular housing. In this study, problems of modular housing and BIM utilization of modular housing were presented as ways to ensure the quality of modular housing. Therefore, this study analyzed the problems that are occurring in the construction process of modular housing. And, to address the problem of modular housing, BIM utilization measures were proposed for each modular process step. However, the application of BIM in domestic modular project is currently being carried out in pilot research project. Because of this, the BIM utilize method for modular housing is limited based on the BIM use for general projects and the examples for some modular pilot projects.
