  • The purpose of this study is to understand how the economic conditions and needs of single-parent families are different between single-mother and single-father families, and also how they are dependent on household composition. The data for this study were drawn from the 1st Korea Welfare Panel Study and analyzed by frequencies, means, ${\chi}^2$, t-test, F-test, and logistic regression with the STATA 9.1 program. The major findings are as follows: (1) Single-parent families are more likely to live in a three-generation household than married couple families. (2) The composition of a three-generation household of single-parent families is affected by sex, age, education, type of marital disruption, the type of employment of single parents and the age of the last-born child. (3) The income-to-needs ratio is not significantly different depending on the sex of the single parents and their household composition. However, material hardship is significantly low in three-generation household single-parent families. (4) There are differences between three-generation single-parent families and independent single-parent families in income sources: The ratio of public transfer to total incomes is higher in three-generation households than independent households, while the ratio of private transfer to total incomes is higher in independent households.

  • Purpose : As the population aging deepens, the number of elderly people with arthritis is also continuously increasing. Accordingly, this study intended to identify the factors influencing the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of the elderly with arthritis according to household type and provide baseline data for developing a measure to enhance the life quality of the elderly with arthritis. Methods : The factors influencing the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of the elderly with arthritis were identified based on the raw data from the Korea national health and nutrition examination survey conducted in 2021. Data were analyzed with SPSS Statistics ver 25.0 for windows (IBM Corp), and the significance level (α) was set to .05. Statistical analysis was performed with t-test, ANOVA, multiple regression analysis, and post-hoc analysis with Duncan test. Results : The factors that influenced the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of single-households were medical aid (β=-.17, p=.045), restriction of activity (β=-.17, p=.023), self-rated health status (β=.29, p<.001), and anxiety scale (β=-.36, p<.001). The factors that influenced the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of multi-households were an age of 75 or over (β=-.14, p=.011), living in rural (β=-.14, p=.003), the outpatient department treatment experience (β=-.09, p=.047), self-rated health status (β=.26, p<.001), anxiety scale (β=-.29, p<.001), and stress (β=-.22, p<.001). Conclusion : Factors affecting the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of the elderly with arthritis were found to be different between single-person households and multi-person household. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare measures to improve the quality of life of the elderly with arthritis by considering the factors influencing the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of the elderly with arthritis according to the household type identified in this study.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the determinants of at-home laver consumption expenditures using the data from a survey of households implemented in 2009. It happened that non-response ratios of monthly expenditures on dry laver and flavored laver among sampled households are 18.8% and 25.6%. Accordingly, this study tries to analyze the determinants affecting at-home laver consumption expenditures by using type II tobit model, one of sample selection models, to deal with sample selection bias caused from non-response data. Analysis results show the age variable positively affects expenditures on dry laver but negatively contributes to expenditures on flavored laver. In addition, the household size, the household's income, the degree of preference for laver have positive relationships with both expenditures. Household size elasticity and income elasticity of the expenditure on dry laver are estimated as 0.220 and 0.251. In the case of flavored laver, these elasticities are estimated as 0.484 and 0.261. Such analysis results can provide information on division of the at-home laver consumption market into groups with high willingness to expense and implementation of detailed marketing strategies to increase at-home laver consumption. The methodology of this study can be applied to consumer preference analysis on other marine products and other analyses on sample with non-response data in the fishery research.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the factors that influence residents' satisfaction with their housing. Resident's satisfaction is mainly influenced by two factors - one that pertains to housing and the other as per characteristics of the individual. Housing-related factors include housing types, housing tenure types, and size of floor space. Individual-related factors include household income, size, and education level. This study shows how both factors influence residents' satisfaction. Residential satisfaction is affected by the type of housing tenure (own, chonsei and monthly rent) and housing (detached housing, apartment and multi-family housing). Residential satisfaction of home owners is greater than that of chonsei renters or monthly renters. Residential satisfaction of chonsei renters is greater than that of monthly renters. Satisfaction of apartment residents is far greater than that of detached housing residents or multi-family housing residents. There is no difference in residential satisfaction between detached housing and multi-family housing residents. As total household labor income, household member, and residential area increase, residential satisfaction increase. Residential satisfaction of countryside residents is greater than that of metropolitan residents.

  • This study examined the determinants of urban households' expenditures on alcoholic beverages, using double-hurdle models to distinguish between the decision to purchase (purchase decision) and the decision of how much to consume (expenditure decision). Data for this study were drawn from the 2000 Korean Household Income and Expenditure Survey. Households were likely to purchase alcoholic beverages with increasing of household income, tobacco expenditures, and household size. The age, sex, marital status, occupation, education level, type of house ownership, residing city were significantly related to the purchase decisions. Among those households which drink, as household income and tobacco expenditures increase, the age, sex (male), marital status (married), and education level of a household-head, house ownership, residing city (Seoul) were positively related to and the presence of young children were negatively related to the expenditure level of alcoholic beverages.

  • Single household is expected to be the typical form of future Korean elderly household from reduction of household size and rapid growth of the elderly. As Japanese solve the same problem with Senior Sharehouse, a case study on Senior Sharehouse in japan focused on the Spatial Arrangement and Spatial Composition could suggest an potential applications in Korea. In conclusion, compare to Korea, the Senior Sharehouse in Japan supplies additional $7.5{\sim}9.3m^2$ more space to support the physical movement of the elderly and to help the elderly to solve various functions at one space. The independence and privacy of residents are also assured by supplying single occupancy. Space analysis shows that public space is as spacious (47.3~55%) as personal space. The result of the Space analysis suggests that the sharehouse provides rational ratio of space to assure residents' independence. It was supposed that the center type would be the main stream of the Spatial Arrangement for sharehouse considering its characteristic of sharing space. But, the Senior Sharehouse in Japan prefers corner type. The guarantee of personal space is being considered as a important characteristic. As a result of case analysis, Senior Sharehouse can be a proper type of house for single elderly household and present study can be used for the baseline data to solve the residence problem for single elderly household in Korea.

  • Analysis for the imidazoline type cationic surfactants was performed by the gas chromatography(GC) and high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). The composition of the alkyl chain distribution was investigated by GC after base/Acid hydrolysis of the imidazoline ring. The distribution of total alkyl chain was separated clearly by a Bondclone C18/NOVA-Pak C18 HPLC column using 50% acetonitrile in methanol containing 0.1M sodium perchlorate as a mobile phase. Alkyl chain distribution and average molecular weight of imidazoline type cationic surfactants were obtained based on these analytical methods. The agreement of results from GC and HPLC was good. The detection limit of imidazoline by HPLC method was 10ng without pretreatment.
