  • This paper investigates the manner in which house prices affect macroeconomic variables through a house price channel by applying the method of Iacoviello (2005) to Korean data, and establishing a DSGE model with complementarity. This paper found that higher LTV ratio coupled with stronger complementarity results in the co-movement in both consumption and housing. For instance, the results show that when the LTV ratio and complementarity stands respectively at 50% and 0.42, an 1% rise in house prices increases consumption by 0.057%, and when the complementarity parameter increases to 0.52 with LTV remains unchanged at 50%, consumption rises by 0.047% per 1% increase in house prices. An increase in house prices leads credit constraints for borrowers to become more loose as value of a house rises as a collateral. The increase in household credit enables more consumer spending, eventually leading to increased consumption. A key link in which house prices are connected to macroeconomic variables is change in consumption. To put it simply, a rise in house prices leads to an increase in consumption, which consequently impacts the overall macro-economy. At this point, complementarity is found, in that the elasticity of intra-temporal substitution between housing and consumption is estimated at 0.42, which plays an important role in the house price channel by amplifying the effects of house prices on consumption.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to design a regional electricity planning model rather than the existing single region ones and verify its usefulness. The regional electricity planning model is to determine both electricity distribution among regions and power plant planning at the same time satisfying regional demands and distribution networks. Design/methodology/approach This study made a regional electricity planning model by integrating power plant planning and electricity distribution among regions. The regional electricity planning model is formulated into a linear programming problem, and coded and run using the OSeMOSYS, one of open source energy systems. Findings According to the empirical analysis result, this study confirmed that the regional electricity planning model proposed in this study deducts the unfairness among regions in view of electricity and green house gas. In addition, the model is expected to be used in evaluating and developing the national policies concerning fine dust and/or green house gas.

  • Many policies, such as transit-oriented development, encouraged use of bicycle and pedestrian, reduction of green house gas (GHG) and etc., have been deployed to support transport sustainability. Although various studies regarding GHG were presented, no one has yet adequately explained the behavior of travelers. This paper proposes a GHG emission model by highlighting its sensitivity, elasticity with regard to such travel cost as travel time, travel fare, and GHG pricing, introduced to reduce the amount of GHG in transportation system. For better estimation of GHG, the proposed model adopts (1) a production-constrained gravity model and (2) the travel distance from the origin and the destination (OD). The gravity model has a merit that it considers travel pattern between OD pairs. The model was tested with an example, and the promising results confirmed its validation and applications.

  • Thermal performance of test cell of model hot water Ondol house was simulated by equivalence heat resistence and heat capacity method. In this method wall was replaced by two equivalence and one heat capacity. This method enables to simulate the variation of temperature of each element of model house. The effect of pipe diameter, pitch of pipe and with or without consideration of inter-radiation between wall surfaces on the energy consumption rate were investgated. Results show that radiations between the ground surface of room and wall surfaces contribute to the heating of room air by reducing the convection heat loss through the wall surfaces.

  • Through the computer simulation of virtual reality techniques, prospective clients can experience the surroundings such as the view, traffic and convenience facilities in advance. Also, consumers can reflect their own tastes in the real apartment Interior construction through their own work in relation to furniture arrangement, color choices, etc. inside the apartments. The virtual model house not only replaces the function of the existing model house but it can also provide some services that could not be provided easily due to some restrictions under real conditions. More, it can provide a precise view of the outside appearance and surrounding environment as well as inside the house, as virtual structures on the computer. Consumers can search for the information through the Web in advance and consumer-satisfaction type of apartments can be built. For this purpose, smooth communications among the designers, server managers, and consumers should be achieved as a prerequisite to the delivery of the necessary information.

  • The objective of this study is to suggest a housing life cycle of Korean families which adds to the establishment of reasonable housing standards and to the prediction of fufure-oriented family housing behavior by reviewing published papers. Following model is suggested as a housing life cycle suitable to assess the family housing behavior in Korea. 1st stage : period of house searching 2nd stage : period of house changing 3rd stage : period of house stabilizing \circled1 size enlargement phase \circled2 quality improvement phase \circled3 stable settlement phase 4th siage : period of house contracting 5th stage : period of house depending Since the proposed model is hypothetical, it must be tested and modified by the extensive social survey research on the real housing event history.

  • Recently, many actions are taking to accelerate progress toward social consensus and implementation of Smart Grid. Smart Grid refers to a evolution of the electricity supply infrastructure that monitors, protects, and intelligently optimize the operation of the interconnected elements including various type of generators, power grid, building/home automation system and end-use consumers. The most distinguished element will be Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) that will be installed to every end-use consumer's home or building and optimize the energy consumption of the end-use consumer. The key function of AMI is energy management capability that coordinates and optimally controls the various loads according to the operating condition and environments. In this study, we figure out the basic function of AMI in Smart Energy House that can be defined as a model house implementing in Smart Grid. This paper proposes the energy management algorithm that will be implemented in AMI at Smart Energy House. The paper also show how energy saving in Smart Energy House can be achieved applying the proposed algorithm to an actual house model that has mainly lighting, air-conditioning, TV loads.

  • The aseismic capacity of a traditional three-bay-straw-roof wooden house for rock site condition is quantitatively estimated. One 1/4 scale model was tested for the Nahanni Earthquake with peak ground accelerations from 0.1g to 0.6g. The natural frequency of the wooden house in elastic range is 1.66 Hz and 2.15 Hz in longitudinal and transversal direction, respectively. Damping ratio of the house in elastic range is 7%. The horizontal acceleration response of the house is significantly reduced compared with the input motion due to the nonlinear inelastic characteristics of the Sagae-machum joint of the frame. The traditional wooden house has high aseismic capacity in the rock site condition where high frequency contents of motion are predominant.

  • This study examined the special features and domestic status of the shared-house from the increasing number of single-person households, and also studied demand characteristics of the shared-house targeting young single-person household. Moreover, it found affecting factors of residential inclination on the shared-house with the binary logic model. Some of field research and interviews for the survey were conducted, and the analyzed result from this study as follows: Firstly, the domestic shared-house, introduced between the end of 2012 and early 2013, has been rapidly increased and has some features such as decreasing in housing expenses and increasing in social interaction. Secondly, the demand for shared-house by residential experience of single-person household differs according to the demographic characteristics. Thirdly, the factors that affect residential inclination of shared-house are character types, community life experience, awareness, and need for shared house.
