Effects of Job Satisfaction on Quality of Life for 119 Paramedics

  • The present study investigated the effects of work satisfaction on quality of life for 119 paramedics, the Korean equivalent of 911 paramedics. Data collection began in July 2017 and lasted for six months. Data was collected from 410 119 paramedics of the J province and the G metropolitan area who consented to study participation. The results showed that the higher the job satisfaction of the participants, the higher the quality of life (r = 0.508, p = 0.008). The factors affecting the quality of life were leisure activity, subjective health, and job satisfaction. For 119 paramedics to improve their quality of life, they need to relieve work stress and fatigue through leisure activities, and recover and maintain their health through sufficient rest. Moreover, returning to work in a healthy state likely leads to increased job satisfaction, and the quality of life will increase accordingly. Therefore, 119 paramedics should be permitted to have plenty of leisure time outside their work hours and should be able to maintain health through periodic health checks.

A Modular Decomposition Model for Software Project Scheduling

  • The high level of activity in the development and maintenance of computer software makes the scheduling of software projects an importnat factor in reducing operating costs and increasing competitiveness. Software activity is labor intensive. Scheduling management of hours of software work is complicated by ther interdependencies between the segments of work, and the uncertainties of the work itself. This paper discusses issues of scheduling in software engineering management, and presents a modular decomposition model for software project scheduling, taking advantage of the facility for decomposition of a software project into relatively independent work segment modules. Modular decomposition makes it possible to treat scheduling as clustering and sequencing in the context of integer programming. A heuristic algorithm for the model is presented with some computational experiments.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the impacts of personality variables, family variables, job variables, work-family conflict and job satisfaction on life satisfaction of family business workers. The major findings are as follows: 1. There was direct causal effects of job satisfaction, Sunday working level, the duration of the family business, an academic background on life satisfaction of family business workers. 2. Such variables family variables(family size, number of family workers, number of unpaid family workers), working time variables (working hours per a day, saturday working level, flexibility of working time), work-family conflict had indirect causal effects on life satisfaction of family business workers

  • This study is intended to estimate influences upon life cycle of ESPE(Electro Sensitive Protective Equipment) which is kinds of commonly used in press in domestic industry. First the field survey is executed to workers and safety managers at work places. In the survey, the main primary factors influenced the lift cycle of ESPE were vibration due to overload work in workplace. Second, int results showed that 37$m/s^2$ acceleration in press work would lead to the life of 132 for 8 hours work per day. Therefore, the vibration of press inflicted significant effect on the lift of ESPE.

전남지역 농가부부의 노동과 여가 : 의식 및 시간분석 (Time analysis and Attitude on Work and Leisure of Rural Couples in Chonnam District)

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the work and leisure of rural couples in Chonnam district, to examine couple's perception about farm life, to analyze the factors influencing the time use of husbands and wives. 300 farmhouses were selected by stratified sampling from 20 Myon in Chonnam district, 244 husbands and 283 wives were interviewed using questionnaire and time diary. The major results are as follow : 1) The rural couples have not pride on agriculture, the level of satisfaction and policy reliability was low, and impoverished conditions was high. 2) work time of wives was two hours longer did, and leisure time of wives was 73 minutes shorter than their husbands. 3) The time use of husbands and wives were significantly influenced by agricultural type, farmwork, house work time, age etc.

The Association Between Long Working Hours and Infertility

  • Background: This study aimed to investigate whether working long hours was related to infertility among female Korean workers, while taking age into consideration. Methods: We used data from the 2018 National Survey on Fertility and Family Health and Welfare in Korea that is a cross-sectional, nationally representative, and population-based survey. Infertility was defined as women who were not pregnant after regular unprotected intercourse for a year. Working long hours was classified as ≥52 hours, and subgroups as per age were classified on the basis of being younger or older than 40 years of age. Differences in infertility risk between the long working hour group and none were estimated in crude and fully adjusted logistic regression models with age-group stratification. Results: Of 5,909 Korean female workers, the crude and adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) of infertility for working long hours were 1.295 (0.948-1.737) and 1.303 (0.921-1.809), respectively. In the subgroup of patients below 40 years of age, the crude and adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence interval) were 1.957 (1.216-3.039) and 1.921 (1.144-3.120), whereas those aged 40 years or older had 0.994 (0.647-1.471) and 0.939 (0.560-1.501), respectively. The weighted prevalence of infertility increased as weekly working hours increased only for the younger than 40-year subgroup. Conclusions: Infertility is associated with working long hours, especially in young-aged workers. Thus, the working schedule must be structured to better suit young female workers.

Correlation between Total Sleep Time and Weekend Catch-up Sleep and Obesity based on Body Mass Index : A nationwide cohort study in Korea

  • Purpose : Obesity is a major public health burden in developed countries and a well-known risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Short sleep duration is associated with obesity, as well as diabetes, heart disease and death. In modern society, habitual sleep restrictions seem unavoidable due to social obligations and work schedules along with a tendency toward decreased sleep time. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the effect of differences in sleep time between weekdays and weekends on body mass index (BMI). Methods : This study involved 4,234 Korean adults aged 20 to 64 years based on data obtained from the 7th national health and nutrition examination survey (2016). All subjects were classified into the weekend catch-up sleep group (weekend CUS group). and the non catch-up sleep group (non-CUS group). Results : The longer the average sleep time, the lower was the BMI, and the larger the difference in sleep time between weekdays and weekends, the lower was the BMI. Compared with those with an average sleep time of 8 hours or more, obesity was 1.6-fold higher when the average sleep time was less than 6 hours, and 1.2-fold higher in the case of sleep time of 7 hours or more and less than 8 hours. When the difference in sleep time between weekdays and weekends was 0 or less, more than 0 hours but less than 1 hour, and more than 1 hour and less than 2 hours, the risk of obesity was 1.2-fold, 1.1-fold and 1.1-fold higher, respectively, compared with the risk associated with a sleep time difference of 2 hours or greater between weekdays and weekends. However, the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion : Short sleep duration is positively associated with obesity. In addition, weekend catch-up sleep affects BMI.

주 40시간 근무제가 노동자 여가생활에 미친 영향 (The Effect of 40-hour Work Week System on Leisure Life of Workers)

  • 통계청의 '경제활동인구조사 부가조사'(2010년 3월)와 문화체육관광부 통계청의 '국민여가활동조사'(2010년 7월)를 분석한 결과, 주40시간 근무제가 노동자들의 근로시간과 여가생활에 미치는 영향은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 주40시간 근무제는 실 근로시간을 11.3% 단축시키고, 장시간근로 확률을 1/5로 축소시킨다. 시간당 임금에 대한 근로시간 탄력성은 -0.145로, 임금이 낮을수록 실 근로시간이 길고 장시간근로 확률이 높다. 저임금과 장시간근로는 동전의 양면이다. 둘째, 주40시간 근무제는 휴일 여가시간을 매개변수로 하여 여가비용에 영향을 미친다. 휴일 여가시간이 10% 늘면 여가비용이 3% 늘어난다. 주40시간 근무제는 스포츠 등 적극적 여가활동을 늘리고, 자원봉사, 동호회 등 사회성 여가활동에 긍정적 영향을 미치고 있다. 셋째, 주40시간 근무제 이후 생활에서 나타난 가장 큰 변화로는, 10명 중 7명이 '가족과 함께 하는 여가시간 증가'(52.2%), '자기 계발을 위한 시간 증가'(15.7%) 등 긍정적 변화에 응답하고, '여가 소비지출 부담 증가'(6.3%), '수입 감소'(3.4%) 등 부정적 변화는 13.9%, '별다른 변화 없음'은 14.4% 응답했다. 긍정적 생활변화는 여가생활 만족도 증가로 이어지고 있다. 넷째, 다른 변수를 통제하더라도 주40시간 근무제는 주관적 행복수준에 직접 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라, 여가생활 만족도를 매개변수로 하여 간접적으로도 영향을 미치고 있다. 따라서 주40시간 근무제가 노동생활과 여가생활에 미친 영향이 긍정적이라는 사실을 분명히 인식하고, 빠른 시일 내에 모든 직장에 주40시간 근무제가 정착되도록 가능한 모든 노력을 기울여야 한다. 주40시간 근무제를 5인 미만 사업장으로 확대하고, 초중등학교에 주5일 수업제를 전면 실시하고, 적극적 여가활동 여건을 조성해야 한다. 근로감독 행정을 강화해서 주 52시간을 초과하는 탈법적인 장시간근로를 제한하고 저임금을 일소해야 한다.

컴퓨터(VDT : Visual Display Terminal) 노동의 지각반응과 인간화에 관한 연구 -(주)H통신 직원을 대상으로- (A Study on the Perceived Reaction & Humanization of VDT(Visual Display Terminal) Labor)

  • These days the use of personal computer has become generalized at factory, office, house, etc and this fact indicates that visual display terminal work became popular in every field of our society. The use of computer improves work efficiency, productivity & qualify but in addition, it also generated the physical and mental diseases or defects so called VDT syndrome to workers. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the computer-work-related anti-physical, anti-psychogenic symptoms & side effects through the data drawn from workers who use computers on their works, and to find out methods of improvement & humanization of computer works. The follows are the results of questions about personal sensibility of VDT syndrome. 1. Female workers are more sensitive to the side effects of computer labor than males. 2. Workers aged twenties feel more severe symptoms of VDT syndrome than thirties or fourties, but there are no level of significance. 3. Middle managements workers are the most sensitive group to VDT syndrome, on the other hand tow managements are less sensitive than operators. 4. The result of questions indicates that a phone conductress show more severe VDT syndrome symptoms than business affairs or an engineer workers, with level of significance. 5. The longer computer work engagement period, the more evident VDT syndrome symptoms appear. For instance, workers who have more than 2 year engagement period complain more severe symptoms, compared workers who have less than 2 year engagement period. 6. Long computer working time per day also increases VDT syndrome severity specially people who have more than 2 hours in working time in a day have much less severe symptoms, compared people whose daily working time exceeds 2 hours. 7. Specific body part which shows VDT syndrome symptoms is shoulder, wrist, neck, finger, eye, waist, arm in the order of severity. 8. Sensibility of VDT syndrome symptoms have effect on degree of vocational satisfaction.

A Study on the Awareness of Dental Hygienists on Maternity Protection and Work-Family Balance Assistance Policy

  • Background: This study investigated the awareness and utilization of maternity protection and work-family balance support policies among dental hygienists in dental hospitals and clinics. Methods: We surveyed 200 dental hygienists. Twenty-two who did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded, leaving 178 participants for analysis. The self-administered 48-item questionnaire gathered information on demographics, workplace details, policy awareness, government knowledge, and suggestions for improvement. Results: Awareness of maternity and family support programs significantly differed with age, marital status, number of children, and clinical experience. Dental hygienists in general hospitals and university hospitals reported greater ease of utilizing these policies compared to those in dental clinics. Among the participants, 27.7% took pre- and post-maternity leave, 26.6% took parental leave, 16.9% had reduced working hours during pregnancy, 15.8% had reduced working hours during childhood,and 8.5% during family leave. To promote program uptake, participants suggested mandatory implementation across workplaces (68.4%), expanded support for substitute workers (48.6%), and increased education and promotion of government support (42.4%). Conclusion: While most dental hygienists were aware of the Maternity Protection and Work-Family Balance Assistance Policy, utilizing it proved challenging due to several factors. Organizational policies or practices may not fully implement this policy, while workplace culture could discourage its use. Unfair treatment and the lack of available substitutes further hindered access. To prevent career interruptions for dental hygienists due to pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, and family care, and to maintain career continuity, the dental community and government should establish a multifaceted social support system. This system should prioritize several key areas: strengthening policy promotion, fostering a family-friendly atmosphere, improving management and supervision of policy implementation and developing a robust support system for substitute personnel.
