The microstructural features and texture development by both hot rolling and hot forging in ${\gamma}-TiAl$ alloy were investigated. In addition, additional heat treatment after hot forging was conducted to recognize change of the microstructure and texture evolution. The obtained microstructural features through dynamic recrystallization after hot deformed ${\gamma}-TiAl$ were quite different because two kinds of formation process were occurred depending on deformation condition. However, analyzed texture tends to be random orientation due to intermediate annealing up to ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ region during the hot deformation process. After additional heat treatment, microstructure transformed into fully lamellar microstructure and randomly oriented texture was also observed due to the same reason as before. Tensile test at room temperature demonstrated that anisotropy of mechanical properties were not appeared and transgranular fracture was occurred between interface of ${\alpha}_2/{\gamma}$. As a result, it could be suggested that microstructural features influenced much more than texture development on mechanical properties at room temperature.
Tensile residual stress is occurred by difference of coefficients of thermal expansion between fiber and matrix is one of the serious problems in metal matrix composite(MMC). TiNi alloy fiber was used to solve the problem of the tensile residual stress as the reinforced material. TiNi alloy fiber improves the tensile strength of composite with occurring of compressive residual stress in the matrix by its shape memory effect. A hot press method was used to create the optimal fabrication condition for a Shape Memory Alloy(SMA) composite. The bonding effect of the matrix and the reinforcement within the SMA composite by the hot press method was strengthened by cold rolling. In addition, acoustic emission technique was used to quantify the microscopic damage behavior of cold rolled TiNi/A16061 shape memory alloy composite at low temperature. The damage degree for the specimen that underwent thermal shock cycles was also discussed.
Impact toughness and fracture behavior were studied in five kinds of non-heat treating steels containing bainite; standard(0.25C-1.5Mn-0.5Cr-0.2Mo-0.15V), high V(0.3V), Ni(0.5Mn-2Ni), W(0.4W instead of Mo), and high C-Ni(0.35C-0.5Mn-2Ni) steels. The good hardness and impact toughness balance was exhibited in the $1100^{\circ}C$-rolled condition, while the impact toughness was deteriorated due to coarse grained microstructure in the $1200^{\circ}C$-rolled condition. The impact toughness decreased with increasing the hardness in all steels studied. The fracture behavior was also basically identical, that is, the fracture area was divided into 3 zones; shear and fibrous zone, fracture transition zone with ductile dimples and cleavage cracks, where the cracks initiate and grow to critical size, unstable cleavage fracture propagation zone. The energy absorbed for the critical crack formation through the plastic deformation inside the plastic zone in front of the notch root contributed to a mostly significant portion of the total impact energy.
Clad steel has good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties arising from the hot rolling of dissimilar metals, such as carbon steel and stainless steel. However both good corrosion resistance from the cladding plate material(stainless steel) and mechanical properties from the base plate material (carbon steel) are difficult to obtain because the different steels display opposite behaviors during the cladding process. In order to make clad steel for application in the hulls of ships, proper materials selection and heat-treatment conditions are necessary. In this study, mechanical properties of base plate materials with different chemical composition were evaluated according to heat condition of cladding plate material.

Effects of frictional laws on finite element solutions in metal forming were investigated in this paper. A rigid-viscoplastic finite element formulation was given with emphasis on the frictional laws. The Coulomb friction and the constant shear friction laws were compared through finite element analyses of compression of rings and cylinders with different aspect ratios, ring-gear forging, multi-stage cold extrusion and hot strip rolling under the isothermal condition. It has been shown that two laws may yield quite different results when the aspect ratio of a process and the fractional contact region are large.

It has been shown that two laws may yield quite different results inthe case that the aspect ration of a process is large, for example , strip rolling and ring -gear forging and that the difference depends mainly on the aspect ratio and the friction.

The continuous deformation , multistage deformation and stress relaxation were carried out to investigate the strain induced procipitation by torsion tests in the range of 1000∼800$^{\circ}C$, 0.05/sec∼5/sec for V-microalloyed steel. The starting temperature and time for the initiation of precipitation were determined by stress relaxation tests and the distribution of percipitates increased at higher strain rate and the mean size of precipitates was found to be about 50nm. The precipitation starting time decreased with increasing strain rate from 0.05/sec to 5 /sec and pre-strain. The effect of deformation conditions on the no-recrystallization temperature(Tnr) was determined in the multistage deformation with declining temerature. The Tnr decreased with increasing strain and strain rae. In the controlled rolling, grain refinement and precpitation hardening effects could be achieved by the alternative large pass strain at the latter half pass stage under the condition of low temperature and high strain rate.
The development of automatic production systems have required intelligent diagnostic and monitoring functions to overcome system failure and reduce production loss by the failure. In order to perform accurate operations of the intelligent system, implication about total system failure and fault analysis due to each mechanical component failures are required. Also solutions for repair and maintenance can be suggested from these analysis results. As an essential component of a mechanical system, a bearing system is investigated to define the failure behavior. The bearing failure is caused by lubricant system failure, metallurgical deficiency, mechanical condition(vibration, overloading, misalignment) and environmental effects. This study described slab transfer equipment fault train due to stress variation and metallurgical deficiency from lubricant failure by using FTA.
A duplex stainless steel sheet with 1 wt.% gadolinium was fabricated for a neutron absorbing material with high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and low cost as well as high neutron absorption capability. The microstructure of the as-cast specimen has typical duplex phases including 31% ferrite and 69% austenite. Main alloy elements like chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and gadolinium (Gd) are relatively uniformly distributed in the matrix. Gadolinium rich precipitates were present in the grains and at the grain boundaries. The solution treatment at $1070^{\circ}$ for 50 minutes followed by the hot-rolling above $950^{\circ}$ after keeping the sheet at $1200^{\circ}$ for 1.5 hours are important points of the optimum condition to produce a 6 mm-thick plate without cracking.

Major characteristics of shrinking and rehydration of Korean tea-leaves were investigated in the hot-air drying equipment. Experiments were performed with various drying temperature, plucking time, heating method and rolling condition. The values of shrinking raito and rate were the highest at 7$0^{\circ}C$ in the range of 3$0^{\circ}C$ to 9$0^{\circ}C$. The 1st tea-leaves and showed higher values. Shrinking ratio was 16.62 and 19.62% for leaves and stems; shrinking rate was found 0.083 and 0.091cm/hr.cm, respectively. The rehydration characteristics of tea-leaves at the drying temperature of 3$0^{\circ}C$ were fairly satisfactory. The 2nd tea-leaves showed higher value than others, while the natural tea-leaves were lower. Average rehydration ratio and rehydration rate constant were 85.7% and 0.063/min for leaves; 80.1% and 0.032/min for stems, respectively.
