Physicochemical Properties and Hot Air-Dried and Spray-Dried Powders Process of Sweet Potato and Steamed Sweet Potato (열풍건조 및 분무건조 공정을 이용한 생 고구마와 찐 고구마 분말제조 및 물리화학적 품질특성)

  • This study was conducted to examine the physicochemical properties and hot air-dried and spray-dried powders process of sweet potato and steamed sweet potato. The moisture and the total starch contents were 1.66~2.19% and 52.65~57.42%, respectively. The total starch contents increased during process steaming. The water absorption index of the spray-dried powders (0.97 and 2.03) was lower than that of the hot air-dried powders (2.12 and 4.71), and the water solubility index of the spray-dried powders (83.83 and 86.95%) was higher than that of the hot air-dried powders (68.40 and 81.21%). The particle size and outer topology of the spray-dried powders were 46.18 and $65.53{\mu}m$, and its shape was generally globular. In the DSC analysis of this study, the $T_o$ of the spray-dried powders (64.40 and $67.80^{\circ}C$), $T_p$ of the spray-dried powders (74.40 and $78.20^{\circ}C$), and $T_c$ of the spray-dried powders (81.10 and $81.60^{\circ}C$) was higher than that of the hot air-dried powders. The solubility contents of the spray-dried powders (68.21 and 80.73%) was lower than that of the hot air-dried powders, and the swelling power contents of the spray-dried powders (14.79 and 15.35%) was higher than that of the hot air-dried powders. The amylose contents of spray-dried powders (11.67 and 12.51%) was lower than that of the hot air-dried powders. The soluble dietary fiber contents of spray-dried powders (1.34 and 2.02%) was higher than that of the hot air-dried powders.

  • The flame temperature of LPG-air premixture flame was measured by extrapolation of limiting case corresponding to the infinitely thin diameter of Platinum-resistance-hot-wire. LPG-air premixture flame, initially under atmospheric pressure and room temperature, propagates downward from top of the model combustion chamber maintained at constant pressure through the whole combustion process. Analytical calculation technique was also applied to determine full temperature history or spatial temperature distribution from flame reaction zone to burnt gas region.

  • A measurement device for gas concentration and flow rate using hot wire is developed for the utilization in industrial applications. The device has two cells of measuring and reference, and a bridge circuit is installed to detect electric current through the hot wire in the cells. An amplification of the signal and conversion to digital output are conducted for the on-line measurement with a personal computer. The flow rate of air and carbon dioxide gas is separately measured for the performance examination of the device. Also, the concentration of air-carbon dioxide and carbon dioxide-argon mixtures is determined for the same evaluation. The outcome of the performance test indicates that the accuracy and stability of the device is satisfactory for the purpose of industrial applications.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a computer model for simulating the water-lit hium bromide absorption heat transformer (AHT) Including all major components and to find the flexibility in operation. The effect of source hot water temperature, cooling water temperature, useful hot water flow rate, cooling water flow rate and evaporator circulation flow rate were investigated. The coefficient of performance (COP), temperature boost $({\Delta}T\;=\;T_A\;-\;Ti)$ and concentration variations can be predicted. The performance study indicates that the performance of AHT increases for the waste hot water temperature increasing and with a decrease of the cooling water temperature. The effect on performances of useful hot water flow rape is significant except on temperature boost. Also the effects on performance of cooling water flow rate and evaporator circulation flow rate are small. It is shown that the computer program is valuable to predict the performance of absorp-tion heat transformer units at various working corditions.

  • The PV module company use variable process step and type. Especially soldering process is important, because crystalline cell can be bow by beating temperature. Most PV module company use hot air soldering type in the tabbing & string process. Although hot air type is used widely but this type is bound to influence on cell damage. So recently new way is introducing like a high current way. In this paper, we compare with characteristics of each soldering type and then conform a method to minimize solar cell deformation. Actually solar cell deformation show many difference by fix position and cooling time after soldering step.

  • Red pepper is one of the most important agricultural products in Korea. Generally, raw red pepper is dried after harvest and the dried red pepper is powdered. Washing process is necessary to produce clean powder before powdering process. This study, therefore, was performed to analyze the drying characteristics of the rewetted red pepper and the energy utility during hot-air-convective and infrared-radiant drying. Drying effectiveness, De, was defined for the analysis of energy utility in this study, and its value was determined according to the energy source. Infrared-radiant drying was more favorable than convective drying according to drying effectiveness. But the temperature variation was appeared between the radiant surface and opposite surface of red pepper in infrared-radiant drying.

Performance Evaluation of the Hybrid Defrost Process in the Fin-Tube Evaporators of Refrigerators (하이브리드 제상 방식을 적용한 냉장고용 핀-관 열교환기의 제상 성능 평가)

  • The hybrid defrost process combined with hot-gas bypass defrost and electric heater defrost was experimentally evaluated about its defrost performance in the fin-tube evaporators of household refrigerators. Also the hybrid defrost process was compared with only electric heater defrost process. The defrost efficiency of the hybrid defrost process was shown two times higher than electric heater defrost process. The defrost time of the hybrid defrost process was shorten about 10%~50% than electric heater defrost process. Thermal shock after defrost process was decreased about 50% for the case of the hybrid defrost. It was found that energy consumption ratio of defrost process was reduced up to 7.4% compared with 22.4% of electric heater defrost at the condition of $25^{\circ}C$ ambient temperature.

Quality Characteristics of Grape Pomace with Different Drying Methods (건조방법에 따른 포도 가공부산물의 품질특성)

  • Improvement in the utilization of grape pomace, antioxidant activities and antioxidant compounds of grape pomace was analyzed to clarify the influence of drying method such as $80^{\circ}C$ hot air and freeze ($-70^{\circ}C$) drying process. For proximate composition, crude protein and fat contents of hot air drying sample were higher than freeze drying sample. The lightness and redness values of freeze drying sample were higher than hot air drying sample, but yellowness of hot air drying sample was higher. The contents of total polyphenols and anthocyanins were higher in freeze drying sample. DPPH radical scavenging activity and ABTS scavenging activity of freeze drying sample were higher than hot air drying sample. The reducing power and FRAP value of hot air drying sample was higher than freeze drying sample. The result indicated that freeze drying method is slightly better than hot air drying method for antioxidant compounds and antioxidant activity.

  • The ocher jjimjilbang for a single-person household that will be studied in this study is 2.1 ㎡ in size, and this study was conducted to implement well-being room heating that is beneficial to health by supplying radiant heat provided by hot water during room heating by embedding hot water panels in the walls of the ocher jjimjilbang to configure a hot water circulating system. In addition, the ocher bed and the ocher walls, which have been verified through many study findings and reference materials, were constructed so that the living life with a bed and the ocher jjimjilbang would be implemented simultaneously. As the mass flow rate of the hot water increased, the magnitude of the wall temperature rise thanks to the hot water increased, and as the flow rate of the hot water increased, the transfer rate of the heat transferred from the wall of the ocher jjimjilbang to the air inside the wall of the ocher jjimjilbang increased.

  • Greenhouse horticulture in South Korea covered about 52,000 ha in 2005. Greenhouse area of about 12,000 ha has been heated during winter season with heating cost of $20{\sim}40%$ of total Production cost. Farmers engaged in greenhouse horticulture were changed into aged people. Therefore the laborsaving of working process and the saving of greenhouse heating cost should be accomplished simultaneously to increase income of greenhouse horticulture. The best method for saving of greenhouse heating cost is to install thermal tunnels into greenhouse. Then hot air heaters using fossil fuel should be changed into hot water heaters. In other words air heating using forced convection should be changed into natural convection system. In this research coil tube made of flexible PE pipe was designed as hot water heat exchanger and its heat exchanging characteristics were analyzed. This new heat exchanger has been adopted as a natural convection system for hot water heating of greenhouse horticulture.
