HIP 처리에 의한 가스터빈 블레이드용 IN738LC 초합금의 내부결함 소멸 효과 (Effect of Hot Isostatic Pressing on Elimination of Internal Defects in IN738LC Superalloy for Gas Turbine Blade)

  • Most investment castings contain some porosities and microcavities. In this study, we investigated the elimination trends of various internal defects in IN738LC investment castings for industrial gas turbine blade by hot isostatic pressing. The results showed that cylindrical defects which are under $0.6mm{\Phi}{\times}7mm$ size are mostly eliminated and aspect ratio of defects is more sensitive factor than their cross section shape in removing these defects. Increasing hot isostatic pressure and holding time doesn't affect the elimination trend of cylindrical defects over $0.6mm{\Phi}{\times}7mm$ size because first step(plastic deformation) of HIP densification doesn't occur under these HIPping conditions.

  • A new synthesis process for nano laminating Ti$_3$SiC$_2$ has been developed using TiCx (x=0.67) and Si powder as starting materials by a reaction hot pressing. Bulk Ti$_3$SiC$_2$ was fabricated using a green body consisting of TiCx and Si by a hot pressing under the pressures of 25 MPa at 1420-1550 $^{\circ}C$ for 90 min. The synthesized Ti$_3$SiC$_2$ was consisting of only TiCx and Ti$_3$SiC$_2$. The relative density of sintered bulk Ti$_3$SiC$_2$ was increased as the hot pressing temperature was increased, which was mainly due to the increase in TiCx contents in synthesized Ti$_3$SiC$_2$. The synthesized Ti$_3$SiC$_2$ bulk was consisted of nano sized lamella structure of 20-100 nm in thickness. It was found that TiCx particles in Ti$_3$SiC$_2$ would increase the 3-point bending strength of synthesized Ti$_3$SiC$_2$ bulk. The maximum 3-P. bending strength of synthesized Ti$_3$SiC$_2$ bulk was more than 800 MPa. The Vickers hardness of synthesized Ti$_3$SiC$_2$bulk was as low as 5 Gpa, which was decreased with the indentation load. The quasi-plastic deformation behaviors were observed around indentation mark on Ti$_3$SiC$_2$.

  • Dense $SiC-ZrB_2$ electro-conductive ceramic composites were obtained by hot pressing for high temperature structural application. The influences of the $ZrB_2$ additions an the mechanical and electrical properties of $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites were investigated. Samples were prepared by adding 15, 30, 45 vol.% $ZrB_2$ particles as a second phase to a SiC matrix. Sintering of monolithic SiC and $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites were achieved by hot pressing under a $10^{-4}$ torr vacuum atmosphere from 1000 to $2000^{\circ}C$ with a pressure of 30 MPa and held for 60 minutes at $2000^{\circ}C$. SiC and $SiC-ZrB_2$ samples obtained by hot pressing were fully dense with the relative densities over 99%. Flexural strength and fracture toughness of the samples were improved with the $ZrB_2$ contents. In the case of SiC sample containing 30vol.% $ZrB_2$, the flexural strength and fracture toughness showed 45% and 60% increase, respectively compared to those of monolithic SiC sample. The electrical resistivities of $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites were measured utilizing the four-point probe method and they decreased significantly with Increasing $ZrB_2$ contents. The resistivity of SiC-30vol.% $ZrB_2$ showed $6.50{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$.

HIP 처리 티타늄기 MMC 의 기계적 특성평가 (Estimation of Mechanical Properties of Tungsten-Fiber-Reinforced Ti-MMCs by Hot Isostatic Pressing)

  • 새로운 티타늄기 MMCs(W/ Ti-6Al-4V)에 대한 기계적 특성에 대한 연구를 행하여 평가한 결과를 나타내었다. HIP(hot isostatic pressing) 제조법과 RS(Rotary Swaging) 2 차 가공을 통하여 텅스텐 섬유 함유율이 각각 6, 9, 12 vol%인 W/Ti-6Al-4V MMCs 를 제작하였으며, 경도는 기존의 Ti-6Al-4V 합금과 비교하여 20-30%, 인장강도는 50%(비강도-38%) 높은 값을 얻었다. 섬유 함유율 9vol.% 에서 가장 높은 인장 값을 나타내었으며, MMCs 에서 메트릭스와 계면 사이에 생성된 확산상에 의해서 경도 및 인장강도가 향상되었다. 또한 피로 강도를 향상 시키기 위한 방법으로 메트릭스의 질적 향상을 위한 HIP 제작조건에 대한 추가적인 연구가 필요하다.

  • 가스터빈 블레이드 재료로 사용되는 IN738LC 니켈기 초합금 주조재에 대하여 고온등압압축(HIP) 공정에 의한 미세조직 변화와 고온 피로수명에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 세부적으로 HIP 처리에 따른 주조결함 제거와 피로변형 열화재의 물성재생효과 확인에 중점을 두었으며, 이를 위하여 회전굽힘 피로시험을 실시하고 변형전후의 미세조직을 광학 및 주사전자현미경으로 관찰하였다. HIP 처리 전후의 미세조직과 피로수명을 비교, 평가한 결과, 주조재와 열처리재의 피로수명 차는 크지 않았으나 HIP 처리재의 피로수명은 이들과 비교하여 평균 60배 이상 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 인위적으로 고온 피로변형을 가한 열화재를 대상으로 반복 HIP 처리한 결과, 열화 변형조직이 신재 상태로 거의 완전히 재생될 뿐만 아니라, 재료내에 미세하게 잔존하던 주조결함까지 부가적으로 제거됨에 따라 반복 HIP 처리에 의한 피로수명 연장 효과가 크게 나타났다.

Morphological optimization of process parameters of randomly oriented carbon/carbon composite

  • A microstructure analysis is carried out to optimize the process parameters of a randomly oriented discrete length hybrid carbon fiber reinforced carbon matrix composite. The composite is fabricated by moulding of a slurry into a preform, followed by hot-pressing and carbonization. Heating rates of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 1, and $3.3^{\circ}C/min$ and pressures of 5, 10, 15, and 20 MPa are applied during hot-pressing. Matrix precursor to reinforcement weight ratios of 70:30, 50:50, and 30:70 are also considered. A microstructure analysis of the carbon/carbon compacts is performed for each variant. Higher heating rates give bloated compacts whereas low heating rates give bloating-free, fine microstructure compacts. The compacts fabricated at higher pressure have displayed side oozing of molten pitch and discrete length carbon fibers. The microstructure of the compacts fabricated at low pressure shows a lack of densification. The compacts with low matrix precursor to reinforcement weight ratios have insufficient bonding agent to bind the reinforcement whereas the higher matrix precursor to reinforcement weight ratio results in a plaster-like structure. Based on the microstructure analysis, a heating rate of $0.2^{\circ}C/min$, pressure of 15 MPa, and a matrix precursor to reinforcement ratio of 50:50 are found to be optimum w.r.t attaining bloating-free densification and processing time.

  • 출발원료의 상분을 제어와 가압소결 및 열처리에 의하여 자체강화 미세구조를 갖는 탄화규소 세라믹스를 제조하여 그 특성을 고찰하였다. 자체강화 탄화규소 세라믹스는 알파상과 베타상 탄화규소 분말을 혼합한 모든 원료조합으로부터 얻어졌으며, 이러한 미세구조는 열처리 동안 베타상 탄화규소 입자가 긴 막대상 입자 형태를 갖는 4H 상의 알파 탄화규소로 상변태하면서 형성되었다. 긴 막대상의 탄화규소 입자의 부피분율 및 장단축비는 베타상 탄화규소 분말의 함유량이 50%인 시편에서 가장 크게 나타났으며, 이로 인하여 이 시편은 제조된 시편 중에서 가장 높은 인성을 나타내었다.

SiC 소결에 미치는 Al2O3-RE2O3 첨가제의 영향과 SiCf/SiC 복합체의 제조 (Effects of Al2O3-RE2O3 Additive for the Sintering of SiC and the Fabrication of SiCf/SiC Composites)

  • The sintering behavior of monolithic SiC is examined using the binary sintering additive of $Al_2O_3$-rare earth oxide ($RE_2O_3$, where RE = Sc, Nd, Dy, Ho, or Yb). Through hot pressing at 20 MPa and $1750^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in an Ar atmosphere for 52 nm fine ${\beta}$-SiC powder added with 5 wt% sintering additive, a SiC density of > 97% is achieved, which indicates the effectiveness of $Al_2O_3-RE_2O_3$ system as a sintering of additive for SiC. Based on this result, 7 wt% of $Al_2O_3-Sc_2O_3$ is tested as an additive system for the fabrication of a continuous SiC fiber-reinforced SiC-matrix composite ($SiC_f$/SiC). Electrophoretic deposition combined with the application of ultrasonic pulses is used to efficiently infiltrate the matrix phase into the voids of $Tyranno^{TM}$-SA3 fabric. After hot pressing, a composite density of > 97% is obtained, along with a maximum flexural strength of 443 MPa.

LPS-SiC 세라믹스 제조특성에 미치는 소결온도의 영향 (Effects of Sintering Temperature on Fabrication Properties of LPS-SiC Ceramics)

  • SiC materials have been extensively studied for high temperature components in advanced energy system and advanced gas turbine. However, the brittle characteristics of SiC such as low fracture toughness and low strain-to fracture still impose a severe limitation on practical applications of SiC materials. For these reasons, $SiC_f/SiC$ composites can be considered as a promising for various structural materials, because of their good fracture toughness compared with monolithic SiC ceramics. But, high temperature and pressure lead to the degradation of the reinforcing fiber during the hot pressing. Therefore, reduction of sintering temperature and pressure is key requirements for the fabrication of $SiC_f/SiC$ composites by hot pressing method. In the present work, Monolithic LPS-SiC was fabricated by hot pressing method in Ar atmosphere at 1760 $^{\circ}C$, 1780 $^{\circ}C$, 1800 $^{\circ}C$ and 1820 $^{\circ}C$ under 20 MPa using $Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3$ system as sintering additives in order to low sintering temperature. The starting powder was high purity ${\beta}-SiC$ nano-powder with an average particle size of 30 nm. Monolithic LPS-SiC was evaluated in terms of sintering density, micro-structure, flexural strength, elastic modulus and so on. Sintered density, flexural strength and elastic modulus of fabricated LPS-SiC increased with increasing the sintering temperature. In the micro-structure of this specimen, it was found that grain of sintered body was grown from 30 nm to 200 nm.

압착여과와 열풍에 의한 비지의 건조 (Dehydration of Soybean Residue by Hot-air in Conjunction with Filter Pressing)

  • 식품으로의 이용가치가 충분한 것으로 알려진 두유(豆乳) 제조시 부산물로 얻어지는 비지를 보존하기 위한 방법의 하나로 열풍건조를 실시하였다. 비지의 고형성분은 단백질 26.55%, 지방 12.50%, 회분 4.04%, 탄수화물 48.71%이었다. 건물중량비로 593%의 수분함량을 갖고 있는 비지를 기계적으로 압착하여 378%까지 수분함량을 감소시켰다. 이 때의 적합한 압착조건은 압착하중 $0.5\frac{M}{T}$, 압착시간 5분 이었다. 압착에 의하여 수분함량이 감소된 비지를 지름이 3mm, 길이가 10mm정도 크기의 과립모양으로 만들었다. 이러한 과립상 비지를 얇은층으로 쌓아 10%의 수분함량까지 열풍건조를 실시하였다. 그 결과 건조조건(열풍속도 160fpm, 건조온도 $120^{\circ}C$)에서 95분간 건조시킨 건조비지의 외관상의 품질변화가 거의 문제가 되지 않음이 밝혀졌다.
