Objectives: The purpose of this review is to analyze the domestic study trends on climacteric syndrome treated with pharmacopuncture. Methods: We investigated the studies on pharmacopuncture for climacteric syndrome via searching 6 online databases. Results: 18 studies were selected. There were 2 case reports, 1 randomised controlled trial, and 15 animal experiments. There were 14 studies about osteoporosis, 1 study about hot flush and sweating, 1 study about abdominal obesity, 1 study about neck pain, and 1 study about learning disability and memory disorder. Nokyong was most frequently used for pharmacopuncture, followed by Honghwa. 陰谷 (KI10) was most frequently used for acupuncture point, followed by 腎兪 (BL23). Conclusions: This study shows that pharmacopuncture could be one of the effective treatments for climacteric syndrome. More well-designed clinical studies using pharmacopuncture for climacteric syndrome will be needed.
The purpose of this study was to investigated the possibility of Meles meles as an edible functional resource. To assess the effects of Meles meles fermented liquid(ML) with medicinal plants in postmenopausal women, the menopause symptoms, hematological and serum chemical variables and bone health indices were examined. Twenty five postmenopausal women participated in the study. As a result, in postmenopausal women, ML supplements were effective in reducing the incidence of menopause symptoms, such as insomnia(44.0%), sensitivity(40.0%), headache(34.0%), hot flush and decreased vaginal lubrication(20.0%) after 12 weeks. Also serum estradiol and calcitonin and calcium levels were 23.27 pg/mL, 14.88 pg/mL and 8.86 mg/dL before the ML intake. Levels were significantly increased of estradiol and calcitonin and calcium after ML intake during 12 weeks to 30.36 pg/mL, 21.61 pg/mL and 10.01 mg/dL. Osteocalcin and bone alkaline phosphatase activity were 14.36 ng/mL, 21.55 U/L before the ML intake, but according to ML intake, the levels were significantly decreased. In conclusion, ML play benefical roles in the prevention of bone loss and menopause symptoms. Howere current data are not sufficient to determine the effective doses for benefical effect as well as harmful effect and support dietary recommendation level for ML. Therefore, our results should be viewed with caution. But Meles meles fermented liquid with medicinal plants can be used as possible food resources and functional food materials, more studies are needed to identify the proper mechanism of ML.
Objectives: Hot flush and sweating is the most of common symptoms and the main cause of treatment in Menopause. This study aims to report the therapeutic effect of Korean medicine for menopausal sweating by analysis for the patients hospitalized in a Korean Medicine Hospital. Results: All 21 subjects are treated by acupuncture, moxibustion and cupping therapy during hospitalization for an average of 11.3±9.14 days. The most common used korean herbal medicine was Gwibi-tang-gagambang, Soyo-san-gagambang, and Dangwiyukhwang-tang-gagambang, every 6 case (20%), followed by Ojeok-san with 2 cases (6.7%). The improvement rate averaged 56.4% for daytime sweating and 53.6% for night sweating. Conclusions: The results suggest that menopausal sweating could improve by treatment of korean medicine, confirming significant treatment effects.
Objectives: The purpose of this review is to analyze the domestic study trends of clinical use of Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI) as a diagnosis instrument on obstetrics and gynecological diseases in Korean literature. Methods: We searched for clinical studies using DITI in the journal of Korean obstetrics & gynecology, National Digital Science Library, Research Information Sharing Service, Korean Medical Database up to May 2020. After searching studies, we selected studies and analyzed according to disease. Results: 18 clinical studies were published in two kinds of academic journals. There were 4 studies about dysmenorrhea and menopausal symptoms, 2 studies about postpartum disease and hypercryalgesia, 1 study about amenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome, leukorrhea, infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome and hot flush. Conception vessel was frequently used for DITI measurement, followed by stomach meridian. The temperatures of abdomen (CV4, CV12), face (HN3), upper and lower limb (PC8, LU4, LR3, ST32) were commonly measured. Conclusions: This study shows that DITI could be one of effective diagnosis instrument for obstetrics and gynecological diseases. More well-designed clinical studies using DITI will be needed.
Purpose: This study was performed to find differerces between postmenopausal and premenopausal women on HRV and DITI. Methods: 26 postmenopausal women(mean age${\pm}$SD, $50.96{\pm}2.75$) and 26 premenopausal women (mean age${\pm}$SD, $49.46{\pm}3.33$) were compared with HRV which was conducted in the sitting position for 5 minutes. Temperature of specific acupoints-Indang, Chonjung(CV17), Kwanwon(CV4) was checked using DITI image and obtained ${\Delta}T1$(Chonjung-Kwanwon), ${\Delta}T2$(Indang-Kwanwon), T0(Kwanwon) value in each group. Results: HRV measurements generally decreased in postmenopausal group than premenopausal group but there was no significance. ${\Delta}T1$ increased significantly in postmenopausal group compared with premenopausal group. ${\Delta}T2$ also increased in postmenopausal group but there was no significance. Conclusion: It can be suggested that Chonjung(CV17) can be the useful point to evaluate postmenopausal women by using DITI.
This study investigated Hua Tuo's Shang-han theory, which precedes the period of Zhang Zhong Jing's Shang-han theory, and considers the relationship between the two approaches. Researchers compared terminology and language of Hua Tuo's Shang-han theory as published in Theory in Qian Jin Yao Fang and Wai Tai Mi Yao, with Zhang Zhong Jing's Shang-han theory. In Hua Tuo's theory, Shang-han involves pathogenic invasion of the body surface, where the pathogen transforms to 6 different stages, Pi (皮), Fu (膚), Ji (肌), Xiong (胸), Fu (腹), Wei (胃). Among these, the stage sof Pi (皮), Fu (膚), Ji (肌) can be considered as exterior syndrome (表證). Those that invade the lower chest can be considered as lower chest disease, and those that violate the abdomen or stomach can be considered as Interior heat excess syndrome (裏熱實證). Stomach heat excess syndrome (胃中實熱證) is the most severe and is similar to septicaemia or bubonic plague. Hua Tuo's treatment used three methods which are 汗 (perspiration), 吐 (emesis), 下 (purgation). In the case of Phlegm syndrome (痰?證), HuoTuo's theory was similar to Zhang Zhong Jing's Shang-han exterior syndrome (傷寒表證) and therefore used Zhuling-powder (猪?散). In the case of deficiency hot flush Syndrome (虛煩證) in Shang-han disease, HuoTuo uses ZhuYe-decoction (竹葉湯), of which the drug contents is the same as Zhang Zhong Jing's ZhuYeShiGao-decoction (竹葉石膏湯), which was used for the same condition.
Y$\grave{u}$zh$\grave{e}$ng(鬱證) comes from obstruction of qi by stress. The patient has depressed mood, irritable sign, chest discomfort, costal pain, angry state or some strange feeling on the throat. Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy is base on the theory of interrelation in five elements in oriental medicine. The contents of Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy include five subjugations of five emotions. Anxiety subjugates fear(思勝恐), fear subjugates joy(恐勝喜), joy subjugates pity(喜勝悲), pity subjugates anger(悲勝怒), and anger subjugates anxiety(怒勝思). Forgiveness program is a kind of psychological therapies to decrease the degree of anger and it is included in Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy. In this case, a female patient, 50 years old, who suffered from Y$\grave{u}$zh$\grave{e}$ng(鬱證) with chest discomfort, irritable sign, easily angry state, depressed mood, hot flush, insomnia. We used Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy besides herbal medication, acupuncture to her condition got improved. Therefore we reported it for the treatment.
Purpose: During Postpartum period many women complain multiple pain, cold hypersensitivity, hot flush, sweating and so on. We call the postpartum disease as San Hu Pung. We studied DITI Characters of women suffering from Postpartum disease. Methods: We studied 74 postpartum women visiting OOhospital from February 2006 to December 2009. The subjects were categorized in two groups, symptom group and no symptom group. We measured the temperatures of abdomen, upper and lower limb and back. We studied the difference of DITI between two groups by Student T-test using SPSS for windows(version 17.0). Results: The general characteristics were not different statistically. Temperatures of abdomen and back of two groups were not different statistically. Temperatures of both LR3 of symptom group were statistically higher than no symptom group. The difference of both PC8 and LU4, both LR3 and ST32 of symptom group were statistically higher than no symptom group. Conclusion: The results suggest that women suffering from Postpartum disease shows high temperatures on hand and foot. It seems that postpartum disease patients tend to have blood deficiency. DITI can be useful to diagnose San Hu Pung. More studies to diagnose San Hu Pung would be needed.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of electroacupuncture on heat sensation of the feet of a 61-year-old female patient with restless leg syndrome. Methods: Electroacupuncture was performed at four acupoints (KI3 (太谿), KI6 (照海), LR3 (太衝), LR2 (行間)) selected to reduce heat sensation in both feet. The patient's symptoms were assessed using the VAS (Visual Analogue Scale), the SF-MPQ (short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire), and the IRLS (International Restless Legs Scale). The treatment was performed from April 20, 2010 to April 24, 2010. Results: During five sessions of electroacupuncture treatments, the VAS, SF-MPQ, and IRLS scores improved throughout the treatment period and afterwards. Conclusions: The results suggest that electroacupuncture at KI3(太谿), KI6(照海), LR3(太衝), LR2(行間) can be effective for reducing hot flush in both feet.
