Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that affect nursing students' perception of pediatric safety nursing activities for children during hospitalization. Methods: The study sample included 304 nursing students who had participated in pediatric nursing practice. Data were analyzed using SAS 9.3 program. Results: Regression analysis showed that the model's explanatory power was 37%. Safety policy and procedure, safety priority, disaster experience, and knowing a place of refuge were factors affecting the perception of safety nursing activities for children during hospitalization. Conclusion: Findings show that safety policy and procedures and safety priority are major factors that affect the perception of safety nursing activities and indicate that effective education programs on safety policy and procedure and safety priority are necessary to improve the perception of safety nursing activities.

Background: In this study, we aimed to investigate the interaction effects of individual socioeconomic status and regional deprivation on the onset of diabetes complications and diabetes-related hospitalization among type 2 diabetes patients. Methods: Korean National Health Insurance Service National Sample Cohort data from 2002 to 2013 were used. A total of 50,954 patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes from 2004 to 2012 and aged 30 years or above were included. We classified patients into six groups according to individual income level and neighborhood deprivation: 'high in advantaged,' 'high in disadvantaged,' 'middle in advantaged,' 'middle in disadvantaged,' 'low in advantaged,' and 'low in disadvantaged.' We calculated hazard ratios (HR) of onset of diabetes complication and diabetes-related hospitalization using the Cox proportional hazard model, with the reference group as diabetes patients with high income in advantaged regions. Results: In terms of the interaction effects of individual income level and regional socioeconomic level, even with the same low individual income level, the group with a high regional socioeconomic level (low in advantaged) showed low HRs for the onset of diabetes complication (HR, 1.04; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.00-1.08) compared to the 'low in disadvantaged' group (HR, 1.10; 95% CI, 1.05-1.16). In addition, the 'high in advantaged' group showed slightly higher HRs for the onset of diabetes complication (HR, 1.06; 95% CI, 1.00-1.11) compared to the 'low in advantaged' and it appeared to be associated with slight mitigation of the risk of diabetes complication. For the low-income level, the patients in disadvantaged regions showed the highest HRs for diabetes-related hospitalization (HR, 1.29; 95% CI, 1.19-1.41) compared to the other groups. Conclusion: Although we need to perform further investigations to reveal the mechanisms that led to our results, interaction effects individual socioeconomic status and regional deprivation might be associated with on onset of diabetes complications and diabetes-related hospitalization among type 2 diabetes patients.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop an asthma management education program for preschool children using Roy's adaptation theory as a framework and examining the effects of this program on adaptation to asthma treatment. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pre-post-test design was used with 43 preschool children diagnosed with asthma and required to be hospitalized for inhalation therapy. An intervention group (n=23) participated in the educational program and a control group (n=20) received regular treatment. The education program was conducted and evaluated from June 30 to October 31 2012, a maximum 3 times every 24 hours during hospitalization. Two nurses conducted the program using the teaching method of Gagn$\acute{e}$ and Briggs; instruction design theory through questionnaires to measure perception of disease, behavior of adaptation to treatment with inhalation therapy. Results: Effects of asthma management education program; scores for face-pain rating decreased and time of adaptation to treatment increased significantly in the experimental group compared to the control group but no significant differences were found for perception of the disease's cause and treatment. Conclusion: Results indicate that the asthma management education program has positive effects on adaptation to asthma treatment of preschoolers.

In this paper, we developed a Hospital Information System in which the business process is formalized and a wire/wireless integrated solution is used. This system consists of the administration office program, the medical office program, the ward management program and the rounds management program. The administration office program can enroll and accept patients, issue and reissue the RFID card. The medical office program inputs a medical examination and treatment, outputs a diagnosis, requests a hospitalization, retrieves the record of a medical examination and treatment, assigns the corresponding examination room to the accepted patients, and updates the number of an waiting patient and a patient number according to the examination room on real time. The ward management program handles hospitalizations and leaving hospital, a nurse's note, and an isolation ward monitoring. The rounds management program handles a medical examination and treatment, and a leaving hospital using PDA. This developed system can be built at low cost and increase the quality of the medical services highly by making it automated the medical administration automation. Also the small number of the medical staffs can manage the inpatients efficiently by using the monitoring functions.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a video education program for spinal surgery patients and to investigate the effect of the program on patients' uncertainty and educational satisfaction. Methods: This study employed a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 54 patients who had undergone spinal surgery in Busan from February to May 2017. The video education program was provided to the experimental group (n=28). The program consisted of providing existing leaflets to patients and repeatedly showing patients educational videos during their hospitalization. Leaflets were also provided to the control group (n=26) as part of traditional care. Patients' reported levels of uncertainty and educational satisfaction were measured. Data were analyzed using the chi-squared test, independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, and covariance analysis. Results: A significant difference was observed between the groups in uncertainty pre-post changes (U=239.50, p=.030). With the education variable controlled, there were significant differences between the groups in the educational satisfaction posttest (F=19.79, p<.001). Conclusion: The program was effective in reducing uncertainty and in enhancing educational satisfaction. Therefore, the video education program may be helpful for improving patient satisfaction and outcomes in various clinical fields.
As the hospitalized patients will be facing new stress situation due to change of his environment from home to hospital it will be very important to understand the psychological stress experienced by hospital patients not only for helping patients in the process of recovery from illness but also fulfil1ing the objective of comprehensive nursing care by understanding the needs of the patients. There is no doubt that it would be very helpful for treatment of patients as well as for improvement of nursing care if we know more about psychological needs of patients and give them adequate support to meet these needs. The study to find out the causes and degree of stress events experienced by hospitalized patients, with the objective of instituting improvement of nursing care program based on the needs of patients, was conducted during the month of September 1974 with 60 patients randomly selected from those admitted to medical and surgical wards at Yonsei Medical Center in that period The questionnaire form included 36 questions which are considered to be stress events for hospital patients, and was devide into five areas namely, such events related to 1) disease itself, 2) hospital environment, 3) nursing care and treatment, 4) communication and human relations, and 5) family and economic problems. The results of the study were as follows: 1. It was confirmed that hospitalization considered to be a stress producing factor and most patients perceived the admission to hospital as a stress factor. 2. According to the rating scale, it was found that degree of perceived stress shows a variation according to the source of stress producing event. 3. No significant differences in the mean values were observed statistically with the perceived stress levels according to demographic and other variables of patients related to hospitalization. 4. Among the questions related to disease itself, "Admission for surgery" was perceived most frequently as a stress event (97.14%) by patients. 5. With regard to the questions related to hospital environment, "death of the patient room-mate" was the most serious stress event perceived by patients (90%) and "living with hospital regulations"was considered to be less serious stress event (23.33%). 6. As for the questions related to nursing care and treatment, "limitation of freedom" was perceived as a stress factor most frequently (70.91%) by the patients and "worry for wrong treatment" turned out to be less frequent stress event (50.0%). 7. As for the questions related to communication and human relations, "difficulty to meet doctors when wanted"appeared to be the most frequent stress event by the respondents (75.86%) , followed by "no explanation about treatment or examination"(75.0%) and "no explanation about nursing care procedures"(71.66%). 8. With regard 111 tile questions related to family and economic problems, "inadequate finances for family living due to hospitalization"and "high cost of hospitalization" were the most frequent cause of stress mentioned by the patients. (80.0%). 9. As a result of application of the stepwise regression analysis, it was found that about 89% was explained by those events associated with disease itself, hospital environment and family and economic problems. By adding those events related to "nursing care and treatment" and "communication and human relation", 100% of stress associated with hospitalization was explained.
Korean Government had performed three pilot programs to introduce the long term care insurance system. Persons aged 65 or older who are dependent on others for daily living could use long term care services in the pilot program. The long-term care insurance covered nursing home services, home care services and cash benefits. The cash benefits are included that for elderly at home and for patients in geriatric hospital. This study investigated whether there had been any change in the medical care utilization according to cash benefits for geriatric hospitalization. This study used National Health Insurance claims and Long term Care Insurance claims 2003 through 2006. Data were composed of subjects who undertook both insurance coverage. The subjects was divided into two groups. Case group included participants with the cash benefits of geriatric hospitalization. Control group included persons without the cash benefits selected by random sampling according to the distribution of case group. This study showed that the amount of medical care utilization of the case group is more significantly increased than the control group after adjusted their health condition and functional condition. This result will be helpful for making decisions on whether the cash benefit of geriatric hospitalization can be introduced into long term care insurance system.
Purpose: This study aims to identify the effects of mobile web-based COVID-19 isolation hospitalization management training on patient's uncertainty, anxiety, and nursing education satisfaction. Methods: Patients hospitalized with COVID-19 isolation rooms from August to October 2021, in Medical Center B which is an infectious disease dedicated hospital located in metropolitan city B were included. The total number of subjects was 142, of which 71 were the experimental group and 71 the control group. As an experimental treatment, a total of 5 minutes and 35 seconds of mobile web-based education were provided to the experimental group three times, including the day of, the first day of, and the second day of hospitalization. Existing training conducted on the control group was provided by the nurses in charge of the ward through oral explanation using printed materials. The data were analysed using the IBM SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. Results: Significant differences were observed between the two groups in pre-and post-assessment of uncertainty scores (t=-22.92, p<.001), anxiety scores (t=-15.03, p<.001) and nursing education satisfaction score (t=11.61, p<.001). Conclusion: As a result of the above, mobile web-based education can be used as an effective educational medium in nursing practice to improve the work efficiency and quality of nursing care and contribute to improving the patient's educational satisfaction.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of an education program for mothers of late-preterm infants on parenting confidence, breastfeeding rate, and infants' growth and readmission rate. Methods: The participants were 53 mothers of late-preterm infants (26 in the experimental group and 27 in the control group). The experimental group was administered the late-preterm care education program while the control group received standard care. The program consisted of two sessions during hospitalization after birth, one session at the time of discharge, and telephone and social networking service consultations at weekly intervals for the month following discharge. The collected data were analyzed using the t-test, x2 test, and repeated-measures analysis of variance. Results: Parenting confidence and the breastfeeding rate were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. However, there was no significant difference in the late-preterm infants' growth and readmission rates between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion: A care education program for mothers of late-preterm infants can be a useful nursing intervention in clinical practice.
Purpose: This study was performed to develop the case management program that can provide the qualitative health care service to satisfy the increasing needs for health care elderly and prevent the increase in medical cost cased by prolonged and repetitive hospitalization. Method: The survey was completed as follows. First, 290 elderly patients who would be soon discharged in 4 hospitals are participated in the survey on needs of nursing care and case management programs. Second, 70 professionals working at 5 hospitals including doctors, nurses, social workers and so on are participated in the survey on the case management team operation. Result: Level of needs to Nursing care and case management programs showed so high. Professionals suggested on the case management team operation. Finally, based on the survey and literature review, the case management program was developed. Conclusion: In this study, the specific models for the five case management services were suggested. It is thought that the service provision by the case management team based on the multi-disciplinary case management program model suggested in this study would be suggested as a constituent of the effective health care delivery system for the hospitalized elderly patients.
