  • Pubilc utility industries including the electric utility industry are facing a new stream of privatization com-petition with the private sector and deregulation. The necewssity to solve now and in the future power supply and demand problems has been increasing through the sophisticated generation expansion plan(GEP) approach con-sidering not only KEPCo's supply-side resources but also outside resources such as non-utility generation(NUG) demand-side management (DSM). Under the environmental situation in the current electric utility industry a new approach is needed to acquire multiple resources competitively. This study presents the development of a modified electric generation expansion analysis system(EGEAS) model with avoided cost based on the existing EGEAS model which is a dynamic program to develope an optimal generation expansion plan for the electric utility. We are trying to find optimal GEP in Korea's case using our modified model and observe the difference for the level of reliabilities such as the reserve margin(RM) loss of load probability(LOLP) and expected unserved energy percent(EUEP) between the existing EGEAS model and our model. In addition we are trying to calculate avoided cost for NUG resources which is a criterion to evaluate herem and test possibility of connection calculation of avoided cost with GEP implementation using our modified model. The results of our case study are as follows. First we were able to find that the generation expansion plan and reliability measures were largely influenced by capacity size and loading status of NUG resources, Second we were able to find that avoided cost which are criteria to evaluate NUG resources could be calculated by using our modified EGEAS model with avoided cost. We also note that avoided costs were calculated by our model in connection with generation expansion plans.

  • Considering the increase in health insurance benefits and the elderly population of the baby boomer generation, the amount consumed by health care in 2020 is expected to account for 20% of US GDP. As the healthcare industry develops, competition among the medical services of hospitals intensifies, and the need of hospitals to manage the quality of medical services increases. In addition, interest in online reviews of hospitals has increased as online reviews have become a tool to predict hospital quality. Consumers tend to refer to online reviews even when choosing healthcare service providers and after evaluating service quality online. This study aims to analyze the effect of sentiment score of healthcare service quality on hospital rating with Yelp hospital reviews. This study classifies large amount of text data collected online primarily into five service quality measurement indexes of SERVQUAL theory. The sentiment scores of reviews are then derived by SERVQUAL dimensions, and an econometric analysis is conducted to determine the sentiment score effects of the five service quality dimensions on hospital reviews. Results shed light on the means of managing online hospital reputation to benefit managers in the healthcare and medical industry.

The product category most influenced by the value added to personnel expenses was Stationeries & expendables at general hospitals and Outsourcing at regional public hospitals. Conclusions : Regional public hospitals have relatively low value added to personnel expenses compared to the general hospitals. Therefore, it is necessary for hospital management to reexamine gross revenue relative to total manpower.

  • Financial ratio indicators of the 46 sample hospitals provided by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, together with the survey data responded by the 57 sample hospitals, were analysed to identify the characteristics of the red-figured hospitals' financial structure, financial operational efficiency and management decision-making behavior, The financial characteristics identified through the analysis include high dependency to liabilities, high salary expenses and overhead costs, low profitability of the unduly large amount of fixed assets, and low managerial efficieny of inventory. The hospitals, in face of the IMF economic impasse, took the necessary decision-making and counter measures to cut down salary expenses, to increase the number of patient and medical revenue, and to reduce investment to fixed assets. Based on these findings this study suggested that the hospitals should take more active cost containment measures, financial structural reorganization, and developoment of the strategies that can contribute to increase of the number of patient and medical revenue and that do not. require much capital funds.

Similar to service industry, medical service industry has started to use culture marketing on its service industry management side. Therefore, this paper will propose necessity and usable culture marketing in hospitals to identify the current position of culture marketing in medical service industry. In conclusion, the present research offers the following implication. First, culture marketing has a partial offsetting impact to those who have negative emotion regarding the medical service industry. This is because of the positive impact of culture marketing on a customer response and customer satisfaction. Moreover, by considering the fact that only a culture synthesis and a culture style have a positive impact, focusing on a culture synthesis and a culture style would be treated as an advantageous strategy.

Of the 137 samples collected with mail survey, the utilization rate of B2C e-commerce is 31.4% and B2B is 13.1%. And 74.5% of respondents remains the first development stage which represents the simple advertisement such as the one-way information offering. The key obstacle of expansion of health care e-commerce turns out to be the illogical and outdated medical-related law and institution. Finally, policy recommendations are proposed based on the evaluation of the current policy implemented by government.

  • Tetrafluoroethylene is a colorless gas that can be used to synthesize a variety of fluoride compounds by polymerization (e.g., Teflon). Fluoride compounds have many applications in industry. There are several reports of inhalation injury from the pyrolytic product of fluoride compounds. When the polymer is heated under the conditions of inadequate ventilation, the fumes can cause polymer fume fever or pulmonary edema which manifested as symptoms such as fever, chill, profuse sweating, cough and dyspnea. However there are no reports of a direct lung injury caused by tetrafluoroethylene. We report a case of a 27-year-old male presented with acute lung injury after inhaling concentrated tetrafluoroethylene. He complained of cough and dyspnea after the accidental inhalation of tetrfluoroethylene at his workplace. The symptoms improved without any complications after conservative treatment with oxygen and steroid.
