Background: Intermaxillary fixation (IMF) is a technique that allows for the reduction and stabilization of mandibular fractures. Several methods of IMF, such as self-tapping screws or arch bars, have been developed. This study aimed to validate the usefulness of IMF with a self-tapping screw compared to IMF with arch bars with focus on the patients' perspective. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients who were treated for mandibular fractures at our hospital between August 2014 and February 2021. A total of 57 patients were enrolled in this study. Thirteen patients were excluded from the analysis: three patients were lost to follow-up, and 10 patients did not undergo IMF. Finally, 44 patients were analyzed, of which 31 belonged to the arch bar group, and 13 belonged to the screw group. Patient discomfort and pain during IMF application and removal were analyzed using a patient self-assessment questionnaire. The surgeon also assessed oral hygiene, IMF stability, and occlusion. Results: We applied IMF to 34 men (77%) and 10 women (23%). The mean age of the patients was 37.3 years. The most common fracture site was the angle (30%), followed by the parasymphysis (25%), the body (23%), the condyle (11%), and the ramus (11%). Patient discomfort and oral hygiene were statistically favorable in the screw group. The IMF application time was statistically shorter in the screw group (p< 0.001). IMF stability was not statistically different between the two groups. The pain score during IMF removal was lower in the screw group (p< 0.001). Conclusion: Compared to arch bars, IMF screws provide more comfort during the IMF period, help maintain favorable oral hygiene, and have a shorter application time. From the patient's perspective, IMF screws are an excellent alternative to conventional arch bars when applicable.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify minimum data sets for oral mucous integrity-related documentation and to analyze nursing records for oral care. Methods: To identify minimum data sets for oral status, the authors reviewed 26 assessment tools and a practical guideline for oral care. The content validity of the minimum data sets was assessed by three nurse specialists. To map the minimum data sets to nursing records, the authors examined 107 nursing records derived from 44 patients who received chemotherapy or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in one tertiary hospital. Results: The minimum data sets were 10 elements such as location, mucositis grade, pain, hygiene, dysphagia, exudate, inflammation, difficulty speaking, and moisture. Inflammation contained two value sets: type and color. Mucositis grade, pain, dysphagia and inflammation were recorded well, accounting for a complete mapping rate of 100%. Hygiene (100%) was incompletely mapped, and there were no records for exudate (83.2%), difficulty speaking (99.1%), or moisture (88.8%). Conclusion: This study found that nursing records on oral mucous integrity were not sufficient and could be improved by adopting minimum data sets as identified in this study.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors influencing care workers' intention of hand hygiene implementation in long-term care hospitals. Methods: A total of 180 care workers working at long-term care hospitals were recruited. Data collection was done from July 22 to September 7, 2018. Results: The significant TPB variables influencing the intention of hand hygiene implementation were perceived behavior control (β=.41, p<.001), normative belief (β=.28, p<.001) and attitude toward behavior (β=.15, p=.014). These factors explain 39% of care workers' intension of implementing hand hygiene in long-term care hospitals. Conclusion: In order to strengthen the commitment of hand hygiene, it is necessary to have a positive attitude toward hand hygiene by eliminating the obstacles to hand hygiene.
Objectives : The research was performed to be used as basic data for dental hygienists' job satisfaction during clinical practice, and planning and operating effective clinical practice by analyzing stress factors in dental hygienists and the extent of stress caused by students in clinical practice. Methods : The research was aimed at dental hygienists working at college dental hospitals, dental clinic of general hospitals, dental hospitals and dental clinics located in Seoul and Gyeonggi province where clinical practices were conducted for dental hygiene students. For analysis, collected data was analyzed by using SPSS 20.0. Results : Results derived from analysis on characteristic difference by pattern of hospital were observed that there was a significant difference in job satisfaction by pattern of hospital. Results from analysis on correlation among stress factors were observed that there was correlation between behavior and attitude, interpersonal relationships, role and activity, ideal and value, and treatment fields. Results derived from analysis on the effect of stress factors on the job satisfaction were observed that role and activity (p=.002<.01), ideal and value (p=.019<.05), and treatment fields (p=.032<.05) affected the job satisfaction, while behavior and attitude (p=.386>.05), and interpersonal relationships ((p=.421>.05) did not affect the job satisfaction. A stress factor, role and activity (${\beta}$=.350) affected the job satisfaction the most, followed by ideal and value (${\beta}$=.242), and treatment fields (${\beta}$=-.185). For the explanation ability, the stress factors accounted for 20.5% of the job satisfaction. Conclusions : In conclusion, most of the dental hygienists are satisfied with students' clinical practice by pattern of hospital. Positive correlation was shown between stress factors. Behavior and attitude and ideal and value are high in stress in college dental hospitals, role and activity and treatment fields are high in stress in dental hospital, and interpersonal relationships are high in stress in dental clinics.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of professional attitude and image of dental hygienist in dental hygiene students. Data were obtained from 753 dental hygiene students from 3 colleges and 1 university located in Kyungki-do and Kangwon-do. The results, derived from using the SPSS 10.0 were as follows: 1. The level of professional attitude was 3.47 point, the level of image was 3.24 point. 2. Among the professional attitude, first grade, inexperience of practice experimental, dental hospital or general hospital of work choice, continuation of working period, recommend to family or relatives and professional mind of job are the each highest one. 3. Among the Image, first grade, inexperience of practice experimental, dental hospital or general hospital of work choice, continuation of working period, recommend to family or relatives and professional mind of job are the each highest one. 4. The correlation between professional attitude and image of dental hygienist in dental hygiene students was shown statistically significant positive relationship.
Objectives : The goal of this study is to investigate how transformational leadership does affect empowerment, organizational commitment and service quality of dental clinics and hospitals and for their efficient human resources management in a rapidly changing business environment. Methods : For this, workers of a dental clinic and a hospital in Gyeongsangnam-do were selected and the survey was carried out during September 1 to 30 of 2011 and the total 203 questionnaires were analyzed. Results : The analysis of structural model shows that transformational leadership has no significant influence on empowerment but does affect organizational commitment and service quality. And the result also reveals that empowerment has significant effect on organizational commitment and service quality while organizational commitment influences service quality. Conclusion : For this, it is needed that the leader of organization promotes the spirit of his subordinates and helps them find their potential ability and achieve goals by developing various leadership skills to cope with rapidly changing environment of dental clinics and hospitals.
Objectives: In this study, by a professional who provides medical services by gauging the level of personality recognition among dental hygienists, the basic data is provided to suggest the need for personality education in dental hygienists' education. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted with the members attending conservative education in 2018, and the results of the analysis of the total of 348 members were as follows. Results: The average age of the participants was 31.6 years, and their average career duration was 9.4 years. The total personality score was 3.74 points. The highest score was 4.10 points for conscience, and the lowest score was 2.98 points for habit. In terms of differences between general characteristics and personality domains, the personality perception score was statistically significantly higher for hygienists who were married than for those with a higher education level and working at a higher hospital level. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between the personality domains and the highest competence domain (r=0.790) in relation to total personality. The higher the competency, the higher the total score. Conclusions: Personality is not a part of being formed in the short term. It should be recognized that it is important to recognize the importance of personality in the dental hygiene education curriculum and to provide opportunities to develop personality through systematic programs.

Purpose: This study sought to verify the effectiveness of the Nurse Hand Cream developed to protect the skin of the hands of nurses damaged by frequent hand hygiene. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted that compared the hand skin moisture content of subjects using the Nurse Hand Cream that had been developed for nurses with that of the other hand cream. Results: After applying the hand cream, the subjects' skin moisture content were measured using a skin moisture measuring device; the moisture content of the experimental group significantly increased compared with the control group (p<.001). In particular, as a result of the second experiment that involved the four-time performance of hand hygiene every 30 minutes for two hours, the skin moisture content of the experimental group significantly increased compared with the control group, and 84.4% of the experimental group maintained a normal or higher skin moisture content. Conclusion: The hand cream for nurses was statistically confirmed to strengthen the moisturizing power and prevention of skin moisture loss compared with the other hand cream.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the career-related awareness of dental hygiene students and their awareness of employment in an effort to shed light on the consciousness of dental hygiene students on career and employment. Methods : A survey was conducted on 340 selected dental hygiene students in several colleges of health located in an urban community, South Gyeongsang Province, from June 8 and 16, 2016. The collected data from 335 respondents were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 for Windows. Result : Where they hoped to find a job was analyzed, and they hoped to be hired in an large city due to the possibility of development and expectations for high pay, and the students who wanted to be employed in a small or mid-sized urban community cited personal connections as the reason(p<.001). As for conditions for getting a good job, the largest number of the students placed importance on skills, and the students who were in the higher academic years attached more importance to skills and money(p<.01). As for preferred workplace, dental hospital was the biggest group's favorite workplace, and the students who were in the higher academic years preferred to work in dental clinic or dental hospital(p<.05). Concerning the length of dental hygienist career, the greatest group thought it would be between 11 and 15 years(p<.05). Conclusion : The findings of the study might not be generalizable because students from a few colleges only were investigated, but the findings are expected to help improve the understanding of dental hygiene students on career and how to prepare for the job market and to provide colleges and educational institutions with information on career and ways of offering vocational guidance.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the perception of dental hospital accreditation and the awareness and practice of infection control in dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 238 dental hygienists working at dental hospitals in Gwangju Jeonnam and analyzed from October 24, 2016 to September 22, 2017. Data were analyzed with the independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software, version 21.0. Results: Compared to non-accredited dental hospitals, all three variables were high for accredited dental hospitals. In accredited dental hospitals, healthcare accreditation expectancy effects correlated to awareness (r=0.407) and practice (r=0.533) of infection control, and awareness of infection control correlated to its practice (r=0.725). In non-accredited dental hospitals, healthcare accreditation expectancy effects correlated to awareness of infection control (r=0.239), and awareness of infection control correlated to its practice (r=0.481). Accredited dental hospitals showed healthcare accreditation expectancy effects (${\beta}=0.258$) and awareness of infection control (${\beta}=0.556$), and non-accredited dental hospitals were influenced by the number of employees (${\beta}=0.567$) and awareness of infection control (${\beta}=0.376$). Conclusions: It is necessary to develop efficient and systematic infection control programs to improve the awareness and practice of infection control in dental hygienists and patient's safety in the clinical field.
