Visible Wavelength Photonic Insulator for Enhancing LED Light Emission

  • We report design and simulation of a two-dimensional (2D) silicon-based nanophotonic crystal as an optical insulator to enhance the light emission efficiency of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The device was designed in a manner that a triangular array silicon photonic crystal light insulator has a square trench in the middle where LED can be placed. By varying the normalized radius in the range of 0.3-0.5 using plane wave expansion method (PWEM), we found that the normalized radius of 0.45 creates a large band gap for transverse electric (TE) polarization. Subsequently a series of light propagation simulation were carried out using 2D and three-dimensional (3D) finite-difference time-domain (FDTD). The designed silicon-based light insulator device shows optical characteristics of a region in which light propagation was forbidden in the horizontal plane for TE light with most of the visible light spectrum in the wavelength range of 450 nm to 600 nm.

Curved Projection Integral Imaging Using an Additional Large-Aperture Convex Lens for Viewing Angle Improvement

  • In this paper, we propose a curved projection integral imaging system to improve the horizontal and vertical viewing angles. The proposed system can be easily implemented by additional use of a large-aperture convex lens in conventional projection integral imaging. To obtain the simultaneous display of 3D images through real and virtual image fields, we propose a computer-generated pickup method based on ray optics and elemental images, which are synthesized for the proposed system. To show the feasibility of the proposed system, preliminary experiments are carried out. Experimental results indicate that our system improves the viewing angle and displays 3D images simultaneously in real and virtual image fields.

  • This paper considers and implementation of the memory system which provides simultaneous access to pq image points of block(p$\times$q), horizontal vector(1$\times$pq)and/vertical vector(pq$\times$1) in 2-dimension image array, where p and q are design parameters. This memory system consists of an address calculation circuit, address routing circuit, data routing circuit, module selection circuit and m memory modules where m>qp. The address calculation circuit computes pq addresses in parallel by using the difference of addresses among image points. Extra module assignment circuit is not used by improving module selection circuit with routhing circuit. By using Verilog-XL logic simulator, we verify the correctness of the memory system and estimate the performance. The implemented system provides simultaneous access to 16 image points and is 6 times faster than conventional memory system.

  • In this work, we have simulated a 42-inch LED BLU which was based on 300 RGB LEDs. We have done an adjustment of LEDs' strip distance and a height of the top of the LED to the back of the LCD to get white color uniformity. So, we have changed simultaneously the distance between the top of the LEDs and the back of the LCD. Moreover, we set a fixed position for the horizontal of LED's pitch. And then, we have experimented and compared to our simulation data.

Estimation of Detection Performance for Vehicle FMCW Radars Using EM Simulations

  • This paper proposes a systematic method for estimating detection performances of a frequency-modulated continuous wave radar using electromagnetic simulations. The proposed systematic method includes a radar system simulator that can obtain range-Doppler images using the electromagnetic (EM) simulations in conjunction with a test setup employed for performance evaluation of multiple targets at different velocities in a traffic environment. This method is then applied for optimizing the half-power beamwidths of the antenna array using an evaluation metric defined to improve the detection strengths for the multiple targets. The optimized antenna has vertical and horizontal half-power beam widths of $10^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$, respectively. The results confirm that that the proposed systematic method is suitable to improve the radar detection performance with the enhanced radar-Doppler images.

TAGUCHI OPTIMIZATION OF DISPLACEMENTS DURING THE DESIGN PHASE OF A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

  • The prediction of quality characteristics during the design phase of a construction project was fragmented, because no particular method exists. One of the most important key responses is the total displacements (horizontal and vertical). A brainstorming session produces the quality parameters i.e. the control factors which here are identified as: the steel joint, the pile's length, the excavation depth and angle, the distance between the piles, the anchor stretch and length to name just some of the most engaging in the design. The purpose of this study is to optimise these parameters to minimize the total displacements following a methodology based on Taguchi method. For this reason, a 2-level, L8 orthogonal array has been employed to organize the experimentation. Data is obtained from a real-life excavation project designed on the Plaxis v.8 CAE package. Taguchi analysis is performed in the statistical package Minitab.

태양광 발전시스템의 발전 성능 분석 (Performance Analysis of Photovoltaic System for Greenhouse)

  • 본 연구에서는 온실 운영에 필요한 전력량을 확보함으로서 온실경영비 절감을 목적으로 수평면 일사량, 즉 최대 일사량이 각각 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 및 $900W{\cdot}m^{-2}$ 정도인 날을 기준으로 최대 발전량과 시간의 경과에 따른 태양광발전시스템의 성능을 시험적으로 검토하였다. 태양광발전시스템의 순간 발생전력은 약 970 W정도로서 본 시험에 이용한 태양광발전시스템의 순간 효율은 97% 정도인 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 시스템의 경우, 수평면 일사량이 최소한 $200W{\cdot}m^{-2}$ 이상이 되어야 전력이 발생되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 수평면 일사량이 증가하면 최대 발생전력도 증가하였고, 이 때 최대효율은 각각 약 30, 78, 86 및 90% 정도였다. 그러나 일사량이 약 $800W{\cdot}m^{-2}$정도가 되면 최대 발생전력은 오히려 $700W{\cdot}m^{-2}$ 보다 감소하는 경향이 있었다. 최대전력이 발생되는 효율도 순간 발생전력 97%정도보다 감소하였다. 그리고 일별 수평면 총일사량이 각각 3.24, 8.10, 10.90, 12.70, 14.33, 19.53 및 $21.48MJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$정도 일 때, 총 발생전력량은 각각 0.03, 0.40, 3.60, 4.37, 4.71, 4.70 및 4.91 kWh정도로서 어느 일사량을 경계로 총 발생전력량은 조금 감소하거나 증가하였다. 어레이 배면온도가 전면온도보다 높게 나타나는 경향이 있지만, 일사량이 증가하면 어레이 배면온도도 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 시스템의 경우, 아직까지 모듈의 성능저하는 없는 것으로 나타났다.

CAP SASW 기법에 의한 지반단면의 전단강성구조 평가 (Evaluation of Stiffness Profile for a Subgrade Cross-Section by the CAP(Common-Array-Profiling)-SASW Technique)

  • 지반의 표면에서 비파괴적으로 지반의 구조나 하부강성을 구하는 표면파 기법의 초기형태는 2차원 평면파의 측정과 해석에 기반을 두었으나, 이후 3차원 입체파에 기반을 두는 형태로 발전하였다. 그러나 체적파의 간섭, 근접장 효과, 표면파 측정해상도의 한계 등으로 인하여 3차원 입체파의 활용은 제한적이었고, 측정 지반을 대표하는 1차원 평가에 국한되었다. 본 연구에서는 SASW 시험의 수치모델링을 통하여 수직 레일레이파, 수평 레일레이파, 러브파 등의 표면파 전파 특성을 3차원 영역에서 심도있게 고찰하였으며, 표면파의 근접장 효과를 최소화하기 위한 새로운 필터조건을 정립하였고, 결과적으로 CAP(common-array-profiling)-SASW라는 기법이라고 하는 개선된 표면파 기법을 제안하게 되었다. CAP-SASW 기법의 적용으로 인하여 좁은 폭의 지반단면에 대한 전단파 속도 주상도 평가가 가능하게 되었고, 지반 단면에 대한 2차원 지반강성 평가도 가능하게 되었다. 본 연구에서 제안한 기법의 검증을 위하여 자연 지반을 대상으로 하여 CAP-SASW 시험, 기존 SASW 시험, 다운홀 시험 등을 수행하여 획득된 전단파 주상도를 비교하였다.

Three-Point 전극(電極) 배열법(配列法)을 이용(利用)한 전기(電氣) 비저항탐사(比抵抗探査) 모형연구(模型硏究) (A Model Study for Electrical Resistivity Method Using Three-Point Electrode Array)

  • This study is a model analysis for an effective application of the geophysical prospecting to the investigation of geological structures or useful resources, and the purpose of it is to research a property of the electrical resistivity prospecting, especially by using a Three-Point electrode array method. In using the Three-Point electrode array method, it is theoretically assumed to choose the infinite for a distance between the two current electrodes, however it is impossible in applying to the practical field prospecting. Therefore this study was conducted for determination and presentation of a minimum appropriate distance between the two current electrodes by making a study on prospecting effect in the variation of distance between both the electrodes. In case that the ratios of the distance between the two current electrodes to that between the two potential electrodes are respectively chosen for 40, 400, 5,000, the experimental data of this study showed that the minimum appropriate distance between the two current electrodes is forty times as much as that between two potential electrodes. In order to make clear a problem about prospecting depth which is essential to the data processing, it had been chosen equally to the distance between two potential electrodes. As a result of it, it was shown that the anomaly is appeared along the position of an assumed ore body. Consequently it was found out that the prospecting depth of the Three-Point electrode array method is the same as the distance between the two potential electrodes. From the model experiment on the sheeting ore body(or linear structure) of horizontal, dipping of $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and vertical on the basis of above experimental condition, it was found out that the position and dip of assumed ore body could be inferred from the aspects of the equiresistivity curve. In consequence of performing out the simultaneous Normal and Reversal electrode movement, it was shown that the electrode movement of the Reversal forms the anomaly more clearly than that of Normal when the sheeting ore body is situated obliquely, therefore it could be ascertained that the electrode movement have to be performed simultaneously in the manner of Normal and Reversal. It was also exhibited that the aspect of the equiresistivity curve forms symmetrically when an assumed ore body (or linear structure) is situated horizontally or vertically, that is, symmetrically, and moreover that the aspect of the equiresistivity curve forms unsymmetrically when an assumed ore body (or linear structure) is situated obliquely. On the basis of these experimental analysis it is thought that it can be inferred from the aspect of equiresistivity curve whether an assumed ore body is obliquely situated or not.

전기비저항 탐사의 다양한 배열 방법에 대한 해석 기법 (The Technical Solution for Various Array Methods in Resistivity Survey)

  • 전기비저항 탐사에 있어서 지하에 분포하는 이상대를 정확하게 파악하기 위하여 다양한 배열 방법들이 요구되어 진다. 탐사 방법들은 험난한 산악지형에서 지형기복에 따른 장비와 인력의 이동에 대한 불편함을 줄이기 위하여 일정한 고도에서의 곡선적 측선에 대한 탐사, 시추공이 경사 곡선 수평적으로 되어 있을 경우 지표의 임의적 위치에서의 탐사, 여러 개의 전류원에 대하여 임의 위치에서 포텐셜을 측정하는 탐사 등으로 분류된다. 본 연구는 이러한 다양한 배열 방법으로 얻어진 복합적 자료들에 대하여 3차원 역산 방법을 사용하여 보다 신속하고 정확한 영상들로 나타내고자 한다. 또한 단층지역에서 곡선적 배열 방법으로 얻어진 측정 자료에 대한 3차원 역산 결과로부터 단층의 경사, 방향 및 폭 등에 관하여 정확한 전기비저항 영상들의 비교 결과도를 제시하였다.
