A Study of Antibacterial Efficiency according to Direction of UV Irradiation in Cosmetic Case

  • In this study, we propose an antibacterial efficiency according to the direction of UV irradiation. In the experiment, we measured the effective irradiation angle of UVC using S.aureus, a Gram-positive bacterium, and the variation of the antibacterial region according to the distance according to the direction of ultraviolet irradiation. Also, as a method to increase the antibacterial efficiency during horizontal irradiation of ultraviolet rays, we tested reflecting leaking UVC. As a result, the angle of ultraviolet irradiation was measured smaller than the product description, and in the case of the antibacterial area according to the direction of ultraviolet irradiation, the distance from the sample was increased during vertical irradiation, and the antibacterial area was increased as the distance from the sample was closer during horizontal irradiation. In addition, it was confirmed that antibacterial efficiency can be increased by reflecting leaking UVC during horizontal irradiation of UVC.

The Duration and H/V ratio of the Ground Motion in Southern Korea (남한 지진의 지속시간과 H/V 비율)

  • The duration and H/V ratio(the amplitude ratio of the horizontal to vertical components) of ground motions caused by earthquakes in southern Korea are analyzed. Total 329 seismograms of horizontal component recorded at hypocentral distances of 10 to 350 km from 27 earthquakes with local magnitude 2 to 4 are used for the analysis. Simplified relation between the duration of ground motion( $T_{d}$) and the ratio($\chi$) of Arias intensity( $I_{A}$) and squared maximum acceleration($\alpha$$_{max}$$^{2}$) is determined to be $T_{d}$ = 3.423$\chi$$^2$+ 8.200$\chi$ + 0.029, which is useful for the estimation of the duration in southern Korea. There are three distinct distance ranges with different linear variations of the duration in hypocentral distance. They are distance intervals of 10~80km, 80~140km, and the distance greater than 140km. The duration in southern Korea shows clear proportionality to the local magnitude at magnitudes greater than 3.1. The value 1.37 of the H/V ratio obtained in southern Korea is similar to the value 1.4 of ENA(Eastern North America). The H/V ratio in southern Korea increases in the frequency range from 0.3 to 10Hz. The duration and H/V ratio of ground motions derived in this study could be used in the stochastic simulation of strong ground motion.ion.n.n.

  • Background: This study was to investigate the relationship between scapular downward rotation ratio (SDRR), lower trapezius (LT) muscle, and rounded shoulder angle (RSA) on each side in subjects with scapular downward rotation syndrome (SDRS). Design: Cross-sectional Study Methods: Fifteen subjects have participated in this study. The RSA and SDRR were assessed using a tape measure in standing posture. The RSA was computed by the angle made by two lines: one was the distance between the root of the scapula and the acromion, and the other was the distance between the acromion and the horizontal line in the root of the scapula. The SDRR was computed by two horizontal lines: one was the distance between the mid-line and root of the scapula, and the other was the distance between the mid-line and inferior angle of the scapula. LT muscle strength was performed in a prone position by the hand-held dynamometer. Results: There was a positive correlation between SDRR and LT strength in the less affected sides (r=.59; p=.02), however, there was no correlation between RSA and LT strength in the more affected sides (p>.05).

An Analytical Model for Predicting Heat Transport due to a Point Source in Coastal Water under a Spring-Neap Modulation of Tidal Currents (조류의 대.소조 변동이 존재하는 연안역에서의 점열원에 의한 열오염의 이동 예측을 위한 해석해 모형)

  • In this paper, an analytical solution of calculating the excess temperature field due to a point heat source is presented in the presence of spring-neap modulation of convective alongshore flow. The basic form of the solution is identical to that given by Jung et al. (2003) but the convective term in the exponential kernel function is extended and a spring-neap variation in the horizontal eddy diffusivity is newly introduced. A set of calculations have been performed to examine the sensitivity of the heat build-up to the change in current fields and turbulent dispersion. Results indicate that the excess temperature field is confined within the tidal excursion distance, while the excess temperature field beyond the distance is mainly controlled by the horizontal diffusion. The heat build-up within the distance is considerably affected by the spring-neap variation in the horizontal eddy diffusivity; the relatively high excess temperature more than 1$^{\circ}C$ is extended further when the eddy diffusivity has spring-neap modulation.

Frankfort horizontal plane is an appropriate three-dimensinal reference in the evaluation of clinical and skeletal cant

  • Objectives: In three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT), the cant is evaluated by measuring the distance between the reference plane (or line) and the tooth. The purpose of this study was to determine the horizontal skeletal reference plane that showed the greatest correlation with clinical evaluation. Materials and Methods: The subjects were 15 patients who closed their eyes during the CT image taking process. The menton points of all patients deviated by more than 3 mm. In the first evaluation, clinical cant was measured. The distance from the inner canthus to the ipsilateral canine tip and the distance from the eyelid to the ipsilateral first molar were obtained. The distance between the left and right sides was also measured. In the second evaluation, skeletal cant was measured. Six reference planes and one line were used for the evaluation of occlusal cant: 1) FH plane R: Or.R - Or.L - Po.R; 2) FH plane L: Or.R - Or.L - Po.L; 3) F. Ovale plane R: Rt.F.Ovale - Lt.F.Ovale - Or.R; 4) F. Ovale plane L: Rt.F.Ovale - Lt.F.Ovale - Or.L; 5) FZS plane R: Rt.FZS - Lt.FZS - Po.R; 6) FZS plane R: Rt.FZS - Lt.FZS - Po.L, and; 7) FZS line: Rt.FZS - Lt.FZS. Results: The clinical and skeletal cants were compared using linear regression analysis. The FH plane R, FH plane L, and FZS line showed the highest correlation (P<0.05). Conclusion: The FH plane R and FH plane L are the most appropriate horizontal reference plane in evaluation of occlusal cant on 3D-CT.

Implementation of Spatial Downscaling Method Based on Gradient and Inverse Distance Squared (GIDS) for High-Resolution Numerical Weather Prediction Data (고해상도 수치예측자료 생산을 위한 경도-역거리 제곱법(GIDS) 기반의 공간 규모 상세화 기법 활용)

  • In this study, we examined a spatial downscaling method based on Gradient and Inverse Distance Squared (GIDS) weighting to produce high-resolution grid data from a numerical weather prediction model over Korean Peninsula with complex terrain. The GIDS is a simple and effective geostatistical downscaling method using horizontal distance gradients and an elevation. The predicted meteorological variables (e.g., temperature and 3-hr accumulated rainfall amount) from the Limited-area ENsemble prediction System (LENS; horizontal grid spacing of 3 km) are used for the GIDS to produce a higher horizontal resolution (1.5 km) data set. The obtained results were compared to those from the bilinear interpolation. The GIDS effectively produced high-resolution gridded data for temperature with the continuous spatial distribution and high dependence on topography. The results showed a better agreement with the observation by increasing a searching radius from 10 to 30 km. However, the GIDS showed relatively lower performance for the precipitation variable. Although the GIDS has a significant efficiency in producing a higher resolution gridded temperature data, it requires further study to be applied for rainfall events.

  • This paper presents a characteristics of horizontal swing angle in V type suspension string sets for 765kV T/L. The design of V type suspension string set does not differ from that of general string set for general towers, but it prevents instabilities from swing motion by the horizontal angle and by the wind pressure. We were designed specially 6 conductor yoke, arcing horn and earth horn. And we were decided to 550mm for a distance of strings. We were carried out characteristics of horizontal swing test and movement of mass center test for V-string sets of 400kN single, 300kN double and 400kN double. This products will be used for 765kV T/L of 1 circuit in suspension towers.

  • The purpose of this study was to reduce the chronical low back pain for the manual material handlers. The objectives of this study was to: (1) examine lifting variables, (2) analyze collected data, and (3) suggest lifting redesign recommendations in workplace. The data were collected in A company, manufactures various paints in Si-Wha industrial complex, Kyunggi-Do. It was found that Sb(horizontal distance), Sc(vertical distance), 54(travelling distance) and Sf(frequency) were significant at the 0.01 level and Sa(weight) was significant at the 0.05 level.

  • Fishes usually form a group in water to minimize drag coefficient and this fish schooling is one of representative problems in computational fluid dynamics. In this research, we simulated two fishes as a rectangle. We arranged rectangle horizontal and vertical, then we changed distance between two rectangles and simulated pressure of fluid and drag coefficient. We could find the best distance and position of two fishes that makes minimum drag coefficient.

  • This paper is results of numerical works of investigating effects of horizontal drain arrangements on vacuum consolidation. Extensive numerical analyses were carried out to find the appropriate arrangements of horizontal drain of vacuum consolidation. Commercially available program of CRISP, well known to be good to modelling the behavior of clay material, was used Cam-clay model, based on the Critical State of Soil Mechanics(CSSM), was used to simulate the geotechnical engineering behavior of clay. Model test results carried out previously in the laboratory were compared with numerically estimated results and it was found that results about consolidational settlement with times were in good agreements. Based on this confirmation, parametric numerical study was performed to investigate effects of horizontal drain arrangements on vacuum consolidation with changing the vertical and horizontal spacings between drains for the given soil properties and vacuum. The effect of distance of drain located in top layer from the surface of the ground on the settlement due to vacuum was also investigated. As a results of numerical analyses, appropriate arrangements of horizontal drain to maximize the consolidation settlement due to vacuum were found. The mechanism of vacuum consolidation about the vacuum pressures being transferred to the effective stresses around drains was also evaluated.
