Recently, a greater part of all ship use a coarse heavy fuel oil(HFO) over specific gravity(S.G) 1.00/15$^{\circ}C$ and viscosity 3,500 cSt/4$0^{\circ}C$ as the fuel oil of marine boiler or internal combustion engine from the viewpoint of economical ship' operation. The greater plan to improve a combustion methods of heavy fuel oil, such as atomization, homogeneity and emulsification, were contrived and carried out newly, and then applied 20kHz ultrasonic homogenizer to one of test methods. Also, adopted the marine oils(fuel oil and lubricating oil etc.) and sludge oil as test solutions, and its matrix structures were examined with photographs, Especially, it is important at control system of oil pollution, for the sludge oil emulsified, to be recycled as fuel oil of boiler according to 20kHz Ultrasonic homozenizer, and then fuel saving is attained effectively by making sludge oil to be burnt.
The effects of agitation rate and agitation time on the synthesis of sphingosome were studied. As increase in the agitation rates 4,000, 6,000, 8,000, 10,000 and 12,000 rpm the viscosity of sphingosome were decreased. The most sufficient agitation rate was 8,000rpm for which micell viscosity and stability. The effect of agitation time on the sphingosome viscosity and stability was investigated by changing the agitation times 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 minute at 8,000rpm. 4 minute was the most sufficient for the viscosity and stability. The sphingolipid activity of cutaneous wound healing in impaired mice was examined. As a result, we could prove that phytosphingosine-HCl medically worked on wound healing well. For the phytosphingosine-HCl, it was found that the experimentally determined medical action more effective than that of tetra-acetylphytosphingosine.
This paper introduces a preliminary work for the design of a mini-dish cluster system for power generation. Each mini-dish [typically has a 20 to 30 cm in diameter] is designed with a simple parabolic profile concentrating sun light [after the glass glazing cover to avoid dust deposition on the reflector and facilitate cleaning] onto a centrally located small plane[or concave] mirror which is placed on the bottom side of a transparent glass cover. The mirror with a mini-dish concentrator is designed to focus beam radiation onto a focal point before it enters a bundle of optical fibers connected to a remote receiver for power generation. Different options are considered in designing a mini-dish concentrator to maximize its effectiveness for the collection and use of solar energy.
An oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion [20 wt% com oil, 0.5-6.0 wt% fish gelatin (FG), pH 3.0] was produced by high pressure homogenization, and the influence of pH, protein concentration, and homogenization condition on the formation of FG-stabilized emulsions was assessed by measuring particle size distribution, electrical charge, creaming stability, microstructure, and free FG concentration in the emulsions. Optical microscopy indicated that there were some large droplets ($d>10\;{\mu}m$) in all FG-emulsions, nevertheless, the amount of large droplets tended to decrease with increasing FG concentration. More than 90% of FG was present free in the continuous phase of the emulsions. To facilitate droplet disruption and prevent droplet coalescence within the homogenizer, homogenization time was adjusted in O/W emulsions stabilized by 2.0 or 4.0 wt% FG. However, the increase in the number of pass rather promoted droplet coalescence. This study has shown that the FG may have some limited use as a protein emulsifier in O/W emulsions.
Suspension polymerizations of styrene were conducted in the aqueous phase with tricalcium phosphate (TCP) as a stabilizer and $\alpha$, $\alpha$'-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) as an initiator. Various amounts of initiator and stabilizer were selected and the reaction was carried out at a selected temperature between 60 to 80 $\^{C}$. It was found that the combination of 5 wt% stabilizer and 2.427$\times$10$\^$-3/ mol/L of costabilizer is the minimum amount for suspension polymerization reaction to produce particles in the aqueous phase. Particles were found to be polydisperse in diameter, regardless of reaction conditions. Class transitions were observed to be around 95$\^{C}$, nearly independent of reaction temperature and initiator. Homogenizer was found to be essential in forming particles in the proximity of tens of micrometers in diameter in suspension polymerization with TCP as stabilizer.
A series of outdoor tests were conducted on a fiber optic solar concentrator system for its performance on daylighting. The system is comprised of four main components - a parabolic dish reflector, a convex mirror, a homogenizer tube and an optical fiber cable. Results show that the system could be successfully applied for indoor lighting if some improvements are made for light transmiting (optical) cables. A maximum concentration ratio of 90 was observed delivering the illuminance of 4,800 lux at a distance of 1.2m from the diffuser for the outdoor illuminance of 102,100 lux.
Many useful biomaterials like enzymes are contained in yeast cells. However, the release of these intracellular biomateriais from the cells is required to recover them with hot water, solvent or various cell breakage methods of mechanical or non mechanical ones. The cell lysis or breakage of yeast is usually made by solvent like ethyl acetate and mechanical disintrgration with high pressure homogenizer or agitating beads mill. The separation of cell debris (i.e. solid liquid separation) is done by centrifuge or membrane depending on the recovery conditions. The features of both separation methods are shown in Tables 1 and 2. As it is often difficult to obtain a clear supernatant by centrifuge from the suspension containing cell debris, the membrane separation is also often used to gel a clear supernatant. In this report we introduce the several applications of membrane separation to separate the cell debris of yeast disintegrated chemically or mechanically and to recover the intracellular biomaterials.
