In this paper, we investigate the natural frequencies and buckling loads of functionally graded material (FGM) plates and shells, using a quasi-conforming shell element that accounts for the transverse shear strains and rotary inertia. The eigenvalue of the FGM plates and shells are calculated by varying the volume fraction of the ceramic and metallic constituents using a sigmoid function, but their Poisson's ratios of the FGM plates and shells are assumed to be constant. The expressions of the membrane, bending and shear stiffness of FGM shell element are more complicated combination of material properties than a homogeneous element. In order to validate the finite element numerical solutions, the Navier's solutions of rectangular plates based on the first-order shear deformation theory are presented. The present numerical solutions of composite and sigmoid FGM (S-FGM) plates are proved by the Navier's solutionsand various examples of composite and FGM structures are presented. The present results are in good agreement with the Navier's theoretical solutions.

Recently, Many studies have been progressing to path-finding adapted dynamic information on the Terminal Based Navigation System(TBNS). The algorithms proposed are based on $A^*$ algorithm. Path-finding algorithms which use heuristic function may occur a problem of the increase of exploring cost. Path-finding with an abstract graph which expresses real road network as a simple graph is proposed for reducing dependency of heuristic and exploring cost. In this paper, two abstract graph that are different method of construction, Homogeneous Node merging($AG^H$) and Connected Node Merging($AG^C$), are implemented. In result of evaluation of performance, $AG^C$ has better performance than $AG^H$ at construction cost and the number of node access but $AG^C$ has worse performance than AGH at exploring cost.

Context dependent fusion (CDF) is a fusion algorithm that combines multiple outputs from different classifiers to achieve better performance. CDF tries to divide the problem context into several homogeneous sub-contexts and to fuse data locally with respect to each sub-context. CDF showed better performance than existing methods, however, it is sensitive to noise due to the large number of parameters optimized and the innate linearity limits the application of CDF. In this paper, a variant of CDF using support vector machines (SVMs) for fusion and kernel principal component analysis (K-PCA) for context extraction is proposed to solve the problems in CDF, named CDF-SVM. Kernel PCA can shape irregular clusters including elliptical ones through the non-linear kernel transformation and SVM can draw a non-linear decision boundary. Regularization terms is also included in the objective function of CDF-SVM to mitigate the noise sensitivity in CDF. CDF-SVM showed better performance than CDF and its variants, which is demonstrated through the experiments with a landmine data set.
A beta ray scanner was proposed for in-situ discrimination of beta and gamma ray radioactivity. This scanner is based on the principle that gamma and beta rays experience different changes in detection efficiency in scintillators with different geometries, especially with regard to the scintillator thickness. The ratios of the counting rates of gamma rays (Rgamma), beta rays (Rbeta), and sample measurements (Rtotal) in a thick scintillator to those in a thin one are reported. The parameter Xthick, which represents the counting rate contributed by beta rays to the total counting rate in the thick scintillator, was derived as a function of those ratios. The values of Rgamma and Rbeta for 60Co and 90Sr sources were estimated as 3.2 ± 0.057 and 0.99 ± 0.0049, respectively. The estimated beta ray contributions had relative standard deviations of 2.05-4.96%. The estimated range of the beta rays emitted from 90Sr was 19 mm as per the Monte Carlo N-Particle simulation, and this value was experimentally verified. Homogeneous and surface contaminations of 60Co and 90Sr-90Y were simulated for application of the proposed method. The counting rate contributed by the beta rays was derived and found to be proportional to the concentration of 90Sr-90Y contamination.
Gold functionalized graphene oxide (GOAu) nanoparticles were reinforced in acrylonitrile-butadiene rubbers (NBR) via solution and melt mixing methods. The synthesized NBR-GOAu nanocomposites have shown significant improvements in their rate of curing, mechanical strength, thermal stability and electrical properties. The homogeneous dispersion of GOAu nanoparticles in NBR has been considered responsible for the enhanced thermal conductivity, thermal stability, and mechanical properties of NBR nanocomposites. In addition, the NBR-GOAu nanocomposites were able to show a decreasing trend in their dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}^{\prime}$) and electrical resistance on straining within a range of 10-70%. The decreasing trend in ${\varepsilon}^{\prime}$ is attributed to the decrease in electrode and interfacial polarization on straining the nanocomposites. The decreasing trend in electrical resistance in the nanocomposites is likely due to the attachment of Au nanoparticles to the surface of GO sheets which act as electrical interconnects. The Au nanoparticles have been proposed to function as ball rollers in-between GO nanosheets to improve their sliding on each other and to improve contacts with neighboring GO nanosheets, especially on straining the nanocomposites. The NBR-GOAu nanocomposites have exhibited piezoelectric gauge factor (${GF_{\varepsilon}}^{\prime}$) of ~0.5, and piezo-resistive gauge factor ($GF_R$) of ~0.9 which clearly indicated that GOAu reinforced NBR nanocomposites are potentially useful in fabrication of structural, high temperature responsive, and stretchable strain-sensitive sensors.
The complex interactions of climate, topography, geology, biota and hwnan activities result in the land cover patterns, which are impacted by natural disturbances such as fire, earthquake and flood. Natural disturbances disrupt ecosystem communities and change the physical environment, thereby generating a new landscape. Community ecologists believe that disturbance is critical in determining how diverse ecological systems function. Fires were once a major agent of disturbance in the North American tall grass prairies, African savannas, and Australian bush. The major focus of this research was to develop stochastic model of spatial process of disturbance or spatial events and simulate the process based on the developed model and it was applied to the fire arrival process in the Great Victoria Desert of Australia, where wildfires generate a mosaic of patches of habitat at various stages of post-fire succession. For this research, Landsat Multi-Spectral Scanner(MSS) data covering the period from 1972 to 1994 were utilized. Fire arrival process is characterized as a spatial point pattern irregularly distributed within a region of space. Here, nonhomogeneous planar Poisson process is proposed as a model for the fire arrival process and rejection sampling thinning the homogeneous Poisson process is used for its simulation.

We use a volume-limited sample of quasars in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) DR7 quasar catalog to identify quasar groups and address their statistical significance. This quasar sample has a uniform selection function on the sky and nearly a maximum possible contiguous volume that can be drawn from the DR7 catalog. Quasar groups are identified by using the Friend-of-Friend algorithm with a set of fixed comoving linking lengths. We find that the richness distribution of the richest 100 quasar groups or the size distribution of the largest 100 groups are statistically equivalent with those of randomly-distributed points with the same number density and sky coverage when groups are identified with the linking length of $70h^{-1}Mpc$. It is shown that the large-scale structures like the huge Large Quasar Group (U1.27) reported by Clowes et al. (2013) can be found with high probability even if quasars have no physical clustering, and does not challenge the initially homogeneous cosmological models. Our results are statistically more reliable than those of Nadathur (2013), where the test was made only for the largest quasar group. It is shown that the linking length should be smaller than $50h^{-1}Mpc$ in order for the quasar groups identified in the DR7 catalog not to be dominated by associations of quasars grouped by chance. We present 20 richest quasar groups identified with the linking length of $70h^{-1}Mpc$ for further analyses.
Many seismically vulnerable regions in India and worldwide are located on deep soil deposits which extend to several hundred meters of depth. It has been well recognized that the earthquake shaking is altered by geological conditions at the location of building. As seismic waves propagates through uppermost layers of soil and rock, these layers serve as filter and they can increase the duration and amplitude of earthquake motion within narrow frequency bands. The amplification of these waves is largely controlled by mechanical properties of these layers, which are function of their stiffness and damping. Stiffness and damping are further influenced by soil type and thickness. In the current study, an attempt has been made to study the seismic site response of deep soils. Three hypothetical homogeneous soil models (e.g., soft soil, medium soil and hard soil) lying on bedrock are considered. Depth of half space is varied from 30 m to 2,000 m in this study. Controlled synthetic motions are used as input base motion. One dimensional equivalent linear ground response analyses are carried out using a computer package DEEPSOIL. Conventional approach of analysing up to 30 m depth has been found to be inadequate for deep soil sites. PGA values are observed to be higher for deeper soil profiles as compared to shallow soil profiles indicating that deeper soil profiles are more prone to liquefaction and other related seismic hazards under earthquake ground shaking. The study recommends to deal the deeper soil sections more carefully for estimating the amplification factors for seismic hazard assessment at the surface.

This paper investigated a new type of low voltage threshold switch (LVTS). As distinguished from the many other types of electronic threshold switches, the LvTS is ; voltage controlled, occurs at low voltages ($V_{2}$ $O_{5}$lV devices. The average low threshold voltage < $V_{LVT}$>=218 mV (standard deviation =24mV~kT/q, where T=300K), and was independent of the device area (x100) and amorphous oxide occurred in an ~22.angs. thick interphase of the V/amorphous- $V_{2}$$O_{5}$ contacts. At $V_{LVT}$ there was a transition from an initially low conductance (OFF) state into a succession of quantized states of higher conductance (ON). The OFF state was spatically homogeneous and dominated by tunneling into the interphase. The ON state conductances were consistent with the quantized conductances of ballistic transport through a one dimensional, quantum point contact. The temeprature dependence of $V_{LVT}$, and fit of the material parameters (dielectric function, barrier energy, conductivity) to the data, showed that transport in the OFF and ON states occurred in an interphase with the characteristics of, respectively, semiconducting and metallic V $O_{2}$. The experimental results suggest that the LVTS is likely to be observed in interphases produced by a critical event associated with an inelastic transfer of energy.rgy.y.rgy.

Most of the current mobility management protocols such as MIPv4/6 and its variants standardized by the IETF do not support global seamless handover. This is because they require comprehensive changes of the existing network infrastructure. In this article, we propose a simple mobility management protocol (SMMP) which can support global seamless handover between homogeneous or heterogeneous wireless networks. The idea is that the SMMP employs separate location management function as done in SIP to support global user and service mobility. In addition, the bidirectional tunnels are dynamically constructed to support seamless IP mobility by extending the IEEE 802.21 MIH standards. The detailed architecture and functions of the SMMP have been designed. Finally, the simulation results, using NS-2, show that the proposed SMMP outperforms the existing MIPv6 and HMIPv6 in terms of handover latency, packet loss, pear signal noise ratio (PSNR).
