Poly (vinyl chloride) was blended with blended with vinyl chloride-acrylonitrile copolymers (MO-01 : M$\sub$w/=199049, AN=22.79%, MO-02 : M$\sub$w/=238523, AN=47.03%, MO-03 : M$\sub$w/=289496, AN=52.49%, MO-04 : M$\sub$w/=341837, AN=58.68% by mixing dimethylformamide (DMF) solution of each polymer and their morphology, viscosity, viscoelastic and mechanical properties were studied. Blends of PVC and MO-01 showed a homogeneous morphology. On the contrary, the other copolymer blends showed a large phase separation with spherical domains. Miscibility of blends of PVC and MO-01 was shown to be better than that of blends of other copolymers from morphological and viscoelastic studies. Even though blends of PVC and MO-01 were observed to be the considerable compatibility at a composition of PVC/MO-01=90/10, the mechanical properties of blend films were not improved too much in most blend cases.
The influence of deposition parameters on the deposition of $SnO_2$ thin films by spray pyrolysis has been studied. In the case of spray solution with tile concentration of 0.01M, at low deposition temperature the deposition was controlled by surface reaction and portion controlled by mass transfer is increased with increasing deposition temperature to $400^{\circ}C$. Above $400^{\circ}C$, the deposition is controlled by mass transfer at low spray pressure, and by surface reaction at high spray pressure. As the concentration of spray solution increased the deposition rate increased, and in this experiment the deposition depends on the Rideal-Eley mechanism. The deposition rate increased with increasing substrate temperature up to $400^{\circ}C$ and then decreased due to homogeneous nucleation. The thickness of the deposit increased with increasing spray duration, and the adhesion between substrate and deposit was formed physically.
We demonstrate an alternative alignment process using transferring process on solution driven HfZnO film. Parallel pattern is firstly fabricated on a silicon wafer by laser interference lithography. Prepared HfZnO solution fabricated by sol-gel process is spin-coated on a glass substrate. The silicon wafer with parallel pattern is placed on the HfZnO film and annealed at $100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. After transferring process, parallel grooves on the HfZnO film is obtained which is confirmed by atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Uniform liquid crystal alignment is achieved which is attributed to an anisotropic characteristic of HfZnO film by parallel grooves. The liquid crystal cell exhibited a pretilt angle of $0.25^{\circ}$ which showed a homogeneous alignment property.
A $ZnO/TiO_2$ photocatalyst decorated with PbS quantum dots (QDs) was synthesized to achieve high photocatalytic efficiency for the decomposition of dye in aqueous media. A $TiO_2$ porous layer, as a precursor photocatalyst, was fabricated using micro-arc oxidation, and exhibited irregular porous cells with anatase and rutile crystalline structures. Then, a ZnO-deposited $TiO_2$ catalyst was fabricated using a zinc acetate solution, and PbS QDs were uniformly deposited on the surface of the $ZnO/TiO_2$ photocatalyst using the successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) technique. For the PbS $QDs/ZnO/TiO_2$ photocatalyst, ZnO and PbS nanoparticles are uniformly precipitated on the $TiO_2$ surface. However, the diameters of the PbS particles were very fine, and their shape and distribution were relatively more homogeneous compared to the ZnO particles on the $TiO_2$ surface. The PbS QDs on the $TiO_2$ surface can induce changes in band gap energy due to the quantum confinement effect. The effective band gap of the PbS QDs was calculated to be 1.43 eV. To evaluate their photocatalytic properties, Aniline blue decomposition tests were performed. The presence of ZnO and PbS nanoparticles on the $TiO_2$ catalysts enhanced photoactivity by improving the absorption of visible light. The PbS $QDs/ZnO/TiO_2$ heterojunction photocatalyst showed a higher Aniline blue decomposition rate and photocatalytic activity, due to the quantum size effect of the PbS nanoparticles, and the more efficient transport of charge carriers.
In this study, the authors investigate the free vibration behavior of three-phases functionally graded sandwich plates using a novel nth-order shear deformation theory. These plates are composed of a homogeneous core and two face-sheet layers made of different functionally graded materials. This is the novel type of the sandwich structures that can be applied in many fields of mechanical engineering and industrial. The proposed theory only requires four unknown displacement functions, and the transverse displacement does not need to be separated into bending and shear parts, simplifying the theory. One noteworthy feature of the proposed theory is its ability to capture the parabolic distribution of transverse shear strains and stresses throughout the plate's thickness while ensuring zero values on the two free surfaces. By eliminating the need for shear correction factors, the theory further enhances computational efficiency. Equations of motion are established using Hamilton's principle and solved via Navier's solution. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed theory are verified by comparing results with available solutions. The authors then use the proposed theory to investigate the free vibration characteristics of three-phases functionally graded sandwich plates, considering the effects of parameters such as aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio, skin-core-skin thicknesses, and power-law indexes. Through careful analysis of the free vibration behavior of three-phases functionally graded sandwich plates, the work highlighted the significant roles played by individual material ingredients in influencing their frequencies.
The polymerization of 1,6-heptadiyne was carried out by molybdenum and tungsten-based transition metal catalysts. This polymerization by MoCl$\_$5/ alone proceeded well to give a quantitative yield of polymer. The effect of monomer to catalyst mole ratio (M/C), initial monomer concentration ([M]$\_$0/), and the polymerization temperature for the cyclopolymerization of 1,6-heptadiyne was studied and discussed. The polymerization solution exhibited red color even after 30 min of polymerization time. The resulting polymers were mostly brown powders and mostly insoluble in any organic solvents although the polymerization proceeded in homogeneous manner in some cases. The polymer structure was characterized by various instrumental methods to have the conjugated polymer backbone structure carrying cyclic recurring unit. The thermal and morphological properties of the resulting poly(1,6-heptadiyne) were also discussed.
To investigate effects of heat treatments including grain size control in substrate aluminum on nanopore arrays in anodic alumina template, aluminum was heat treated at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1h. The heat treated aluminum was anodized by two successive anodization processes in oxalic solution and the nanopore arrays in anodic alumina layer were studied using TEM and FE-SEM. The highly ordered porous alumina templates with 110 nm interpore distance and 40 nm pore diameter have been observed and the pore array of the anodic alumina has a uniform and closely-packed honeycomb structure. In the case of alumina template obtained from heat treated aluminum substrate, the well- ordered nanopore region in anodic alumina increased and became more homogeneous compared with that from non-heattreated one.

To improve the corrosion resistance of an electrogalvanized steel sheet, we deposited magnesium film on it using a vacuum evaporation method and annealed the films at $250-330^{\circ}C$. The zinc-magnesium alloy is consequently formed by diffusion of magnesium into the zinc coating. From the anodic polarization test in 3% NaCl solution, the films annealed at $270-310^{\circ}C$ showed better corrosion resistance than others. In X-ray diffraction analysis, $ZnMg_2$ was detected through out the temperature range, whereas $Mg_2Zn_{11}$ and $FeZn_{13}$ were detected only in the film annealed at $310^{\circ}C$. The depth composition profile showed that the compositions of Mg at $270-290^{\circ}C$ are evenly and deeply distributed in the film surface layer. These results demonstrate that $270-290^{\circ}C$ is a proper temperature range to produce a layer of $MgZn_2$ intermetallic compound to act as a homogeneous passive layer.
In this paper, a novel numerical solution technique, the differential cubature method is employed to study the buckling problems of thick plates with arbitrary quadrilateral planforms and non-uniform boundary constraints based on the first order shear deformation theory. By using this method, the governing differential equations at each discrete point are transformed into sets of linear homogeneous algebraic equations. Boundary conditions are implemented through discrete grid points by constraining displacements, bending moments and rotations of the plate. Detailed formulation and implementation of this method are presented. The buckling parameters are calculated through solving a standard eigenvalue problem by subspace iterative method. Convergence and comparison studies are carried out to verify the reliability and accuracy of the numerical solutions. The applicability, efficiency, and simplicity of the present method are demonstrated through solving several sample plate buckling problems with various mixed boundary constraints. It is shown that the differential cubature method yields comparable numerical solutions with 2.77-times less degrees of freedom than the differential quadrature element method and 2-times less degrees of freedom than the energy method. Due to the lack of published solutions for buckling of thick rectangular plates with mixed edge conditions, the present solutions may serve as benchmark values for further studies in the future.
Geometrically non-linear axisymmetric bending of a shallow spherical shell with a clamped or a simply supported edge under axisymmetric load was investigated numerically. The partial load was introduced by the Heaviside step function, and the solution was obtained by the finite difference and the Newton-Raphson methods. The thickness of the shell was considered to be uniform and the material was assumed to be homogeneous and isotropic. Sensitivity analysis was made for three geometrical parameters. The accuracy of the algorithm was checked by comparing the central deflection, the radial membrane stress at the edge, or the transverse shear force with the solutions of plates and shells in the literature and good agreement was obtained. The main findings of the study can be outlined as follows: (i) If the shell is fully loaded the central deflection of a clamped shell is larger than that of a simply supported shell provided that the shell is not very shallow, (ii) if the shell is partially loaded the central deflection of the shell is sensitive to the parameters of thickness, depth, and partial loading but the influence of the boundary conditions is negligible.
