포항 호미곶등대의 건축 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Architectural Characteristics of Homigot Lighthouse(Cape Clonard) in Pohang)

  • Homogot Lighthouse is located in Pohang of the easternmost of Korean Peninsula. Homogot has become first known as Cape Clonard in the West through the navigation log by La Perouse, a Frenchman who embarked on a global exploration in 1785. Homogot Lighthouse represents an outstanding accomplishment of modernization that numerous civilized countries scrambled to attain in the early 20th century. Located where the geographical risk of earthquakes is high, the structure was nonetheless built to be 26.4m high with brick masonry. Structurally safe and aesthetically graceful, it demonstrates neoclassical ideas superbly in terms of style as well. Although the history of Asian lighthouses is shorter than that of European ones. Homogot Lighthouse, which demonstrates the history of a modern lighthouse along with those in Japan and China, is differentiated by the following characteristics. ① The 'living lighthouse heritage' is linked to one of the largest lighthouse museum in the world. ② Where you can see the earliest sunrise at the easternmost of the Eurasian Continent. ③ The completion of a modern-style lighthouse constructed at the easternmost of the Far East after being initiated in Europe. ④ Differentiated historical, architectural, and aesthetic value. ⑤ The heart of the national marine park.

Spatial distribution of vegetation along the environmental gradient on the coastal cliff and plateau of Janggi peninsula (Homigot), southeastern Korea

  • Background: Cliffs are a major plant habitat around the coastal area, but in contrast to sand dunes and salt marshes, they have been little investigated in Korea. There are simple descriptions of cliff vegetation in studies on island vegetation, but there is no published paper, which addressed sea cliff vegetation synthetically. Furthermore, the coastal area where this study was carried out was designated as a conservation reserve. Even though, this area is exposed to intense recreational use such as trekking in these days. This study aims to clarify spatial distribution and structure of vegetation along the environmental gradient on coastal cliff and plateau in the Janggi peninsula (Homigot) located on southeastern Korea. Further, this study has also another objective to prepare a restoration plan to protect this conservation reserve from intense human disturbance. Results: Landscape elements were arranged in the order of sea cliff risen directly on the sea, seashore, coastal cliff, and plateau covered with relatively deep soil in a coastal area of the Janggi peninsula (Homigot), southeastern Korea. Vegetation was sampled at 59 plots arranged from the sea cliff through the seashore and coastal cliff to plateau. The sea cliff, seashore, and coastal cliff, which compose the coastal landscape, were dominated by the seashore spatulate aster (Aster spathulifolius Maxim.) community, dwarf sand sedge (Carex pumila Thunb.) community, and seashore spatulate aster (Aster spathulifolius Maxim.) community. On the plateau corresponding to the ridge of the coastal cliff, black pine (Pinus thunbergii Parl.) community, golden rain tree (Koelreuteria paniculata Laxmann) community, east Asian hackberry (Celtis sinensis Pers.) community, sawleaf zelkova (Zelkova serrata Makino) community, and Korean oak (Quercus dentata Thunb.) community were established in the mentioned order along distance from the sea. Stand ordination showed a vegetation sequence from the seashore through the cliff to the plateau, consistent in its overall pattern among sites. This was dominated by topography. There is evidence for the importance also of salinity, drought and of soil depth. Conclusion: The lack of scientific interest in cliffs to date is in striking contrast to the commonness of cliffs around the whole national territory and to the attraction cliffs have had for humans throughout history. Cliffs provide a unique habitat, rarely investigated from an ecological viewpoint. Cliffs may represent an invaluable type of ecosystem, consisting of some of the least disturbed habitats on earth and contributing more to the biodiversity of a region than their surface coverage would indicate. Although this coastal area where this study was carried out was designated as a conservation reserve, this area is in danger of severe disturbance due to excessive recreational use. We recommended a restoration plan to protect this area from such a disturbance.

국내 해안지역의 오손특성 분석 (Analysis of Salt Contamination in the domestic coast area)

  • We installed the measurement equipment which measure the equivalent Salt Deposit Density(ESDD) of the domestic coast area in the selected 112 place and investigated the influence of the wind which blow at the point of 500m from coast installing a wind vane, wind gauge for realtime measurement. During september${\sim}$december, 2005, ESDD which passively measured at the point of 50m from coast is maximum C grade in the Homigot of Pohang, B grade in the Gochang and A grade in the remaining point. Also ESDD which is measured in the east coast, west coast respectively is the more the distance being far from the coast to inland, the more ESDD rapidly decreasing but each area of the south coast is difficult to identify the decreased tendency because of very low measurements.

포항 로란-C(9930M) 이용 영일만 dLoran 측정 (dLoran Measurement in Yeongil Bay using the Pohang Loran-C (9930M))

  • dLoran과 ASF 데이터 맵 그리고 로란 데이터 채널은 eLoran 시스템의 중요한 3 요소이다. dLoran은 eLoran 기술의 핵심 기술로 ASF 보정을 통해 항법 정확도를 향상시키는 기술이다. 이러한 dLoran 보정을 통해 항만 접안(HEA)시에 8~20 m 정확도의 항법 성능을 얻을 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 로란 9930M 체인 중에 주국인 포항 송신국의 신호를 이용하여 dLoran 측정을 하였다. 영일만 해상을 대상으로 dLoran 기준국을 포항 호미곶 표지관리소에 설치하고 시험용 수신기를 흥환 해수욕장에 설치하여 dLoran 측정의 유효성을 평가하였다. 그 결과 표지관리소 dLoran 기준국의 TOA 측정 데이터와 흥환 시험국의 이용자 수신기 TOA 측정 데이터의 하루 동안의 차분 데이터는 약 10~30 ns (거리오차: 3~9 m) 이내로 일치하고 있어서 이 dLoran 측정 데이터로 이용자의 ASF 측정값을 보정하면 eLoran의 항만 접안에서의 항법 정확도를 만족할 수 있다.

호미곶과 구룡포지역 해안단구와 신기지구조운동 (Marine Terraces and Quaternary Faults in the Homigot and the Guryongpo, SE Korea)

  • 남동해안의 호미곶과 구룡포 인근지역의 해안단구에는 3조의 제4기 단층이 인지 되며, 이중 2조는 4단구와 2단구의 평탄면을 자르고 있다. 호미곶 남쪽 하정리의 하정단층은 4단구를, 호미곶 구만리의 구만단층은 2단구를 자르고 있다. 하정단층은 역단층운동을 하였으며 주향과 경사는 하부에서 $N55^{\circ}W/45^{\circ}NE$, 상부에서 $N45^{\circ}W/40^{\circ}N$E로 수직 변위는 약 180 cm이다. 하정단층은 MIS 7~MIS 5c 동안 단층운동 시 형성된 4조 붕적퇴적층이 발달하고 있어, 4회의 단층 운동이 있었음을 알 수 있다. 호미곶 구만리에 위치하고 있는 구만단층은 3조의 역단층이 관찰되며 단층의 주향과 경사는 $N80^{\circ}E{\sim}N70^{\circ}W/25^{\circ}-35^{\circ}SE{\sim}30^{\circ}SW$로 수직이동거리는 9 cm~18 cm이다. 구만단층은 부정합면 직상위의 최하위 퇴적층만 이동시켰으며, MIS 5a의 80 ka 이후, MIS 4의 71 ka 이전 기간 동안 1회 운동하였다. 이 하정단층과 구만단층의 자세를 고려해 볼 때, 남동해안에는 후기 플라이스토세 기간동안 동북동-서남서 압축력과 남북 압축력이 작용한 것으로 생각된다. 하정리의 4단구 퇴적층과 구만리의 2단구 OSL연대 결과, 대보 지괴의 4단구는 MIS 7, 2단구는 MIS 5a임을 재검증하였다.

한천분해효소를 생산하는 해양세균 Thalassomonas sp. SL-5의 분리 및 특성 (Isolation and characterization of a marine bacterium Thalassomonas sp. SL-5 producing β-agarase)

  • 포항 호미곶 해수에서 한천분해활성을 보이는 해양성 세균 SL-5을 분리하였으며 16S rDNA 염기서열분석으로 해양기원의 Thalassomonas 속과 가장 유사한 균주임을 확인하였다. SL-5 균주가 생성하는 한천분해효소(agarase)는 성장의존성인 것으로 확인되었고 효소활성을 위한 최적 pH는 pH 7.0(20 mM sodium phosphate 완충용액)이고 최적 온도는 $40^{\circ}C$로 나타났다. 한천분해효소는 $80^{\circ}C$까지 65%의 효소활성을 보이는 호열성 효소이지만, 내열성은 그리 높지 않았다. 한천 분해효소의 분해산물에 대한 TLC 분석결과, 본 효소가 $\beta-agarase$라는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 분리한 Thalassomonas sp. SL-5 균주가 생산하는 한천분해효소를 이용하여 한천으로부터 다양한 기능성 한천올리고당을 생산하는데 있어 유용하게 사용될 것으로 기대된다.

우리나라 동해안의 해안단구 형성시기와 융기율 (Formative Age of Coastal Terraces and Uplift Rate in the East Coast of South Korea)

  • This study tries to examine papers on coastal terrace in the East Coast of South Korea and to summarize formative age and elevation of the terrace. Spatial and temporal variations of uplift rate in the Coast based on absolute age published are also reviewed. The terrace in the middle part in the Coast from Goseong to Samcheok distributes in an elevation of 10-20 m and its formative age is MIS 5a. The terraces during MIS 5e and 7 develop on an elevation of 20-35 m and 60-80 m, respectively. The mid-southern part in the Coast from Uljin to Yeongil Bay has the terraces with elevations of 10-25 m and 25-45 m and their ages are MIS 5a or 5c and 5e, respectively. The terraces with elevations of 10-25 m and 30-45 m correspond to MIS 5a and 5e, respectively, in the southern part in the Coast from Homigot to Busan. Assuming that elevation of sea level during the formation of each terrace is the same as in the present time, uplift rates in the Coast range from 0.05 to 1.36 m/ky with an average of approximately 0.33 m/ky. The highest and lowest rates since MIS 5 are found in the Gyeongju (approximately 0.39 m/ky) and Pohang (approximately 0.19 m/ky) areas. With a consideration of elevation of sea level at that time, however, the middle, midsouthern and southern parts in the Coast show uplift rates of 0.16-0.28 m/ky, 0.20-0.36 m/ky and 0.24- 0.36 m/ky since MIS 5, respectively, suggesting that the southern part in the Coast has experienced relatively higher uplift rate.
