  • Mathematics Listening Ability(MLA) refers to the ability to listen to and grasp the meaning of speech language containing mathematical concepts and principles, distinguishing it from daily life and listening in other subject classes. According to literature, MLA might be divided into six types. Among them, interpretation, discovering, evaluating, and evaluation may indicate an attitude that correctly listens to the meaning of the language used in mathematics classes. On the other hand, selective, pretend, and ignore are types of listening attitudes that are not appropriate. Based on the statistical analysis of 834 3rd to 6th graders and a total of 44 homeroom teachers I developed a MLA survey items for elementary school students. In this study, principal component analysis was conducted to verify reliability in the development of survey items, and expert review and correlation analysis of survey results were conducted to verify validity. In addition, the validity was verified by statistically analyzing the survey results of students and their homeroom teachers. Based on literature and statistical analysis, I developed a MLA Survey items(for students) consisting of 25 questions and a mathematical resolution measurement tool(for teachers) consisting of 26 questions.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the necessary data for the effective performance of school nurse's work by comparing with the recognition and expectation on school nurse's work by the students and their teachers in school settings. The sample of this study was consisted of the 441 students and 535 teachers in Suwon. The data were collected by means of a structured questionnaire from 24th, Sept, to 29th, Sept. 1990. The collected data were analyzed utilizing SAS/PC program for percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation and chisquare test. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1. The result of analysis in recognition on school nurse's work. There is no statistically significant difference 'depending on teachers' school level, sex, age and career with school nurse(P>0.05). The students show significant difference on their school level and sex(P>0.05). Also, in the areas of school nurse's work, school clinic management has the highest recognition and school environment management has the lowest recognition. 2. The result of analysis in expectation on school nurse's work. There is statistically significant difference depending on teachers' and students' school level: the order of expectation is elementary, middle, and high school(P<0.05). In the result of comparison with students' and teachers' expectation in the same school level, there is significant difference only in elementary school(P<0.05). However, there is no statistically significant difference depending on teachers' sex, age, career with school nurse and students' sex(P>0.05). Also, in the areas of school nurse's work, school clinic management has the highest expectation and school environment management has the lowest expectation. Synthesizing the result of the study, we can have the conclusion like following. First, students' recognition on school nurse's work is lower than teachers' because most of school nurse's work is performed through their homeroom teachers or other teachers. That can be the limitation for students to recognize school nurse's work. So, there must be a chance of regular meeting between school nurse and students to perform school nurse's work effectively. For this. we must change our educational system and make school nurse charge regular lesson. Second, in each area of school nurse's work, both students' and teachers' recognition and expectation about the area of school environment management has much lower score than the other areas. This indirectly shows the school nurse don't do the work of the area actively. So, school nurses must make an effort to do the work of the area actively. And we must enforce the education of this area in education for new school nurses or re-education for school nurses.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore how teachers perceive barriers to consultation with school counselors. For this purpose, the opinions of 16 teachers working in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Chungcheong, and Daegu were collected through one-on-one interviews and qualitatively analyzed using the concept-mapping method. A second set of data was gathered to classify the similarity and importance of the teachers' statements through one-on-one interviews or the mail. The data was analyzed using multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analyses. The results were as follows. The barriers to the consultation with school counselors as perceived by teachers were represented in 51 statements. Dimensional statement analysis revealed two dimensions: (a) 'School counseling's traits - School counselors' traits' and (b) 'Psychological difficulties - Environmental difficulties' Hierarchical cluster analysis identified 5 clusters: 'The responsibilities as homeroom teachers interfere with communication with counselors', 'Teachers lack of awareness of their ability to seek consultation with counselors', 'Teachers lack of trust in school counselors', 'Perceptions of the school counselors' role and lack of relevant experience with school counselors prevent teachers from seeking consultation', and 'School counselors are overworked due to the school counseling environment' The most important cluster was 'Teachers lack of trust in school counselors'.

  • He purpose of this study is to design and apply a pilot assessment tools for scientifically gifted and talented elementary school students with lower grades. The assessment tool consists of three parts: homeroom teachers' recommendation, paper and pencil test and performance tests. The tools are verified whether they are suitable for unique characteristics of young children and enable to attract active participation. For suitability check, students' performance tests were inductively analyzed and 30 behavioral patterns were shown which were included and partially exceeded the level of lower elementary students' performance expectation in NGSS. As a result, we concluded that assessment tool developed in this study will be effective in discriminating young pupils' scientific talents. Then for participation check, we compared the number of coding references as an indicator of participation. Two cases were found that students with high interest participated passively in performance tests. We found these 'passive participants' had excessive scientific experiences and extremely narrow region of interest, during the process of complex interpretation between the results of this assessment tool and in-depth interviews with homeroom teachers. We found out in this study that newly developed tools can be used in school scene after modifying and elaboration through accumulation of more case studies.

  • School violence has long been recognized as a social problem, and various efforts have been made to prevent it. In this study, we propose a system that can prevent school violence by analyzing data on the frequency of conversations between students, friendship and preference to be in the same group. This data was quantified using a Likert scale questionnaire, and also grouped into the appropriate number of clusters using the K-means algorithm. Additionally, the homeroom teacher observed the frequency and nature of conversations between students, and targeted specific individuals or groups for counseling and intervention, with the aim of reducing school violence. Data analysis revealed that the teachers' qualitative observations were consistent with the quantified data based on student questionnaires, and therefore applicable as quantitative data towards the identification and understanding of student relationships within the classroom. The study has potential limitations. The data used is subjective and based on peer evaluations which can be inconsistent as the students may use different criteria to evaluate one another. It is expected that this study will help homeroom teachers in their efforts to prevent school violence by understanding the relationships between students within the classroom.
