Objectives : To evaluate the effects of a strengthening exercise program on the physical activity, activities of daily living(ADL), social behavior and functional performance of the elderly in a home for the aged. Methods : We administered a survey questionnaire that consisted of questions to establish general characteristics, health habits and status, physical activity, ADL, and social behavior. Additionally, a physical fitness and functional performance examination was peformed on subjects who were 65 years old or older. Study subjects numbered 33 in the experimental group and 35 in the control group. For intervention, we used a strengthening exercise program of the upper and lower limbs for 12 weeks(5 times/week) using dumbbells and lead-packed weights. Results : After the strengthening exercise program, the scores of physical activity and social behavior were significantly higher than the control group and the before exercise measurements. Moreover, the variables of functional performance were significantly higher than in the control group or the before exercise records. Conclusion : These results Indicate that a strengthening exercise program can improve the score of physical activity, ADL and social behavior, as well as decrease the time(sec) of functional performance of the elderly in a home for the aged.
Purpose:To investigate the effect of the home exercise program on pain, scoliosis, pelvic alignment of low back in chronic back pain patients, and suggest optimal method for home exercise program. Methods:I divided into two groups who has chronic back pain; one is control group who was given a treatment at the hospital only and the other is experimental group who did another exercise after treatment at the hospital, and there were 10 people in each group. The manual therapy were given to all the patients in each group after applying a stupe and an electric treatment, but the experimental group conducted another exercise program at homes. All the exercise programs were applied to patients 12 times for 4 weeks totally. Results:SPSS for win version 12 was used for statistic analysis and independent t-test was used to find changes between two groups. VAS scale was used to show changes in pain between each group. The grade of pain was decreased between pre&post test to -5.60 in control group and -4.80 in experimental group but there wasn't significant difference between each group. Cobb's degree was used to compare the changes of scoliosis in lumbar and it was improved in each group but there wasn't significant difference between each group. The measurement of pelvic misalignment was decreased between pre&post test to -1.00 in control group and -2.00 in experimental group but it wasn't enough to show significant difference between each group. Conclusion:As you read the results above, for a chronic low back pain patient, application of the manual therapy showed that it has effect on decrease of low back pain, improvement of scoliosis in lumbar and pelvic misalignment. However, the effect of home exercise treatment was not sure about improvements for chronic low back pain patient. So I think there should need further study about the effect of home exercise treatment except the treatments at hospital and the thorough education for the exercise of lumbar should be done before the study for the accurate experiment.
Background: To study the effect of the home exercise program on pain, flexibility, endurance of extensor in chronic back pain patients, and suggest optimal method for home exercise program. Purpose: This study was to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of the Resistance Exercise Program on pain, stiffness, ADL and bone mineral density in Arthritis Patients at home. Methods: Forty-two patients participated in this study and they were divided randomly into two groups (exercise and control group). Two subjects dropped during the study period. The exercise group had a structured training which was 50 minutes in duration, five times per week for a period of 16 weeks and the control group without any scheduled treatment. Data were gathered for 16 weeks (May 21, 2007- September 10, 2007) and were analyzed by using SPSS Win 12.0. Results: The pain, stiffness, ADL, balance and bone mineral density in the exercise group were improved significantly after the Resistance Exercise Program. However, a significant improvement on the above mentioned variables was not observed in the control group.
Purpose: Since coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spread around the world, non-face-to-face services have emerged as the new normal. The functioning of children with developmental disabilities and cerebral palsy improves when parents, therapists, and institutions cooperate. We aimed to investigate the difficult environment of pediatric physical therapy caused by COVID-19, and grasp parents' perceptions of home exercise programs. We intend to design home exercise programs for pediatric treatment in the future and create a non-face-to-face pediatric rehabilitation service system based on our findings. Methods: The first survey was conducted on 30 parents who had children with cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities. It was produced after consultation with relevant experts and discussion with the research team, based on a survey conducted in a previous study. The second survey was produced by revising and supplementing the opinions of parents who completed the first survey and consulting experts. Thereafter, an online survey was conducted on 118 parents who had children with cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities. Results: 61.01 % of the parents reported that they were anxious or afraid for their children to be treated for infectious diseases. 83.90 % of the parents reported that the role of parents had increased. 50.00 % of the parents complained of a lack of skill. 85.59 % of the parents reported that they needed a home exercise program provided by the organization. As a non-face-to-face exercise management method, 35.59 % of the parents wanted a real-time video recording electronically mailed to them, and 34.75 % wanted real-time education using video conferencing programs such as zoom. Conclusion: The threat of COVID-19 has further emphasized the importance of social cooperation and management, leading organizations to enter a new era of non-face-to-face rehabilitation services. It is necessary to collect and systematize related studies to reflect more diverse opinions and improve the perceptions of therapists and parents.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of home exercise program on the improvement of balance in the elderly. Subjects were twenty members living in Daegu (10 males, 10 females), between 65 and 81 years of age. The subjects for the experimental group were participated in the home exercise program for 8 weeks, between April 2001 and June 2001. The results of this study were as follows: After the exercise program, balance ability by CTSIB in the experiment group improved with no statistical significance. On the other hand, balance ability by OLST was significantly improved in the condition with open eyes than dosed eyes. Balance ability by OLSTR was improved 37.2% (p<0.001) on the hard surface with open eyes and improved 41.1% (p<0.01) on the soft surface with open eyes. Balance ability by OLSTL improved 37.1% (p<0.001) on the hard surface with open eyes and improved 72.5% (p<0.001) on the soft surface with open eyes. Balance ability by BBT also improved 1.7% (p<0.05).
The effect of circumvaginal muscle(CVM) exercises to improve sexual function in married women has not been investigated by currently acceptable research methods, nor have appropriate instruments and techniques to carry out such investigation been available. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of CVM exercise on sexual function, and of measuring CVM function after CVM exercises. The research tools used were a modified Derogates Sexual Function Inventory questionnaire and a pressure sensitive intravaginal balloon device. This research was conducted in Kwangju-city and Chonnam province, Korea from July, 1994 to July, 1995. The research used a non-equivalent control pre-post test quasi-experimental design. Forty-five healthy married female volunteers, aged 30-58, and were randomly assigned by age using the matching fixed-length blocks to two groups. The experimental group consisted of 21 women who were assigned a 25-minute per day CVM home exercise program for six weeks. The control group of 24 women did not do the CVM home exercises. The CVM home exercise was developed by Dougherty(1989a) and adopted to Korea by Lee (1993). Data were analyzed by $x^{2-}$test, Paired t-test, Spearman product-moment correlation using SAS /P $C^+. The results are summarized as follows : 1. There were no significant differences in the characteristics of the subjects between the experimental and control groups before the CVM home exercises. 2. Hypothesis 1 that married women who participated in CVM home exercises would have higher mean scores on the sexual function(SF) than in those who did not participate in home exercise was supported. 3. Hypothesis 2 that married women who participated in CVM home exercises would have higher vaginal pressure on SF than in those who did not participate in home exercises was supported (mean maximum pressure, t=-7.338, P<.0001, peak maximum pressure, t=-11.164, P<.0001). 4. Hypothesis 3 that the more often(number of days) and the more frequent (numbers of time per day) that married women do CVM home exercise, the higher their mean scores on SF and vaginal pressures was supported(r=0.233, P<.01 ; r=0.352, P<.05). A six week CVM home exercise program using a tape recording showed that SF can be improved. Results of this study showed that married women who exercise on a regular basis for six weeks improve their sexual function and increase the mean vaginal pressure and peak maximum pressure (tested by electronic monitor). In conclusion, CVM exercise is effective in increasing SF.SF.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to examine the effects of home visit healthcare using a complex program on community-dwelling frail elders' physical strength, frailty, and depression and to compare the effects among three regions. Methods: This study was conducted as a quasi-experimental study using one-group pretest-posttest design. A total of 86 subjects were sampled from three regions (metropolis, small city, and rural area). The program was applied for 14 weeks. This program consisted of disease management by a visiting nurse, exercise with a visiting nurse, self exercise, telephone monitoring, health education, counseling, providing handbook, and incentive. Physical strength was measured by balance, upper-limb, and lower-limb muscle strength. Frailty was measured by the Korean Frail Scale and depression was measured by the Geriatric Depression Scale. Paired t-test and ANCOVA were used to analyze the effects. Results: Physical strength, frailty, and depression were significantly improved after applying the complex program. There were not differences among the regions. Conclusion: Home visit healthcare using a complex program was effective in improving frail elders' physical strength, frailty, and depression. There were not differences among the regions. Therefore, home visit healthcare using a complex program needs to be expanded to other regions.
Purpose: In the present study, the degree of subjective pain in chronic low back pain patients through the course of six week of yoga low back pain exercise and lumbar extensor muscle strengthening training was analyzed, and a systematic and effective home exercise therapy program was proposed. Methods: For this study, we sampled 21 random patients with chronic low back pain who were receiving outpatient treatment at G Hospital Pusan, and conducted experiment for six weeks by applying yoga low back pain exercise+modalities (7) lumbar extensor muscle endurance exercise+ modalities (7) and modalities (7). To measure the degree of pain, the visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry Low Back Pain Questionnaire were used. Pain was measured before the experiment and after six weeks. Results: Significant differences were observed between yoga, extensor muscle endurance exercise and modalities (VAS=0.00 Oswestry=0.00). The yoga and extensor endurance muscle exercise reduced low back pain by more than the modalities. Conclusion: This study will be used to develop a preventive and reduction method of LBP. Therefore, Yoga and extensor muscle endurance exercise are appropriate for use as a home program exercise to reduce low back pain in patients.

Objective: The aim of this systematic review was to investigate for effective strategies to improve home exercise program (HEP) adherence in vestibular rehabilitation (VR). Design: Systematic review. Methods: A systematic review was conducted to identify effective strategies used to improve HEP adherence of patients in VR. Six databases, Academic Search Premier, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PUBMED, PsycINFO, and Web of Science were searched from their inception to December 31, 2015. The keywords used for search were 'home program', 'home intervention', 'compliance', 'adherence', 'vestibular rehabilitation', 'motion sickness', and 'motion sensitivity'. Results: A total of eight studies were selected to be included in the review. There was 95.2% agreement between the two reviewers who reviewed the studies using a quality assessment tool. The overall inter-rater agreement (${\kappa}$=0.73) showed good agreement between the reviewers. Strong evidence was identified for 3 major categories of effective HEP adherence strategies, 1) providing patient with written summary of HEP; 2) asking patient to maintain a record of HEP and symptoms; and 3) providing tele-rehabilitation in form of email and/or telephone support along with in person treatment sessions. Also, based on strong evidence, computerized technology was not found to be superior to other strategies for improving patients' HEP adherence in VR. Conclusions: The effective strategies for improving HEP in VR include written summary of exercise, maintenance of log of HEP and symptoms and tele-rehabilitation along with in person treatment sessions.
