The purpose of this study was to determine the factors which affect older people's innovativeness toward technologies and factors which affect their demand of home automation system. The study collected data from 289 persons who are 50 years and older with experience living in an apartment currently or past. Innovativeness toward technologies of respondents were low level and the significant factors which affected their innovativeness were age, education, employment, marital status, current housing types, health status of self and spouse, consideration of home automation system for a newly-moved house. Education, employment types, consideration of home automation system for a newly-moved house, and plan for moving were the major factors which affect demand of home automation system. Also, older people's innovativeness toward technologies was the most important factor which affected demand of home automation system. Th results of this study explained that high technologies which are adopted in residential environment should be considered target consumers' abilities and attitudes for acceptance toward new ideas. Especially, for older consumers, various ideas to expand their understanding of new technologies should be developed and the positive effect of technologies to increase the quality of their later life should be educated.

This paper presents an application model for home automation control. In this work, we propose home application scenarios that are suitable for the home life style and design a control structure integrating various home automation functions, such as lightning, heating, cooling, security, fire protection, telemetering, entertainment and communication. State-of-the-art wired/wireless home networks such as Bluetooth, LonWorks, IEEE1394 and PLC(Power Line Communication) are included in the control structure.

본 논문에서는 USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network)에서 사용되는 홈네트워크의 구조를 분석하고, 가정 자동화를 위한 임베디드 시스템을 안드로이드 OS상에서 구현하였다. 개발된 시스템은 홈 네트워크 구축을 위해 무선통신을 이용하므로 설치의 어려움을 최소화 할 수 있는 장점이 있으며, 집을 구성하는 전자적인 컴포넌트에 따라 미리 정의해 놓은 아이디 기반으로 가정 자동화시스템을 구축하였다. 또한, 가정 자동화에 적합한 데이터 구조를 정의하고 패킷의 구조에 따라 안드로이드 OS기반의 응용프로그램을 개발하여 가정 자동화를 위한 임베디드 시스템을 개발하였다.

It becomes common to use computers to control electronic devices and security facilities in newly constructed buildings and house. There are many home application devices in the market which can be controlled by computers. But they are expensive and managed by specialized companies. This paper is focused on personal computers which are available in most homes and can be used to control home electronic appliances and home security facilities. We implemented a home automation server based on Linux. The standard parallel port of personal computer is used to connect sensors and actuators. Therefore, the cost of the server is very low. Moreover, the server is connected to Internet and anywhere we can control and monitor the home security facilities and home automation systems.

Recently, newly built apartments in Korea are provided various home automation (HA) systems based on information technology(IT) for residents' safer, healthier and more convenient living. However, the residents in these digital apartments are often not able to use the home automation systems effectively because of lack of their IT knowledge, attitude, or education. However, there are few researches have been done to find out the HA systems' real problems with regard to residents' aspects who use those systems everyday. The purpose of this study was to find out residents' current uses, satisfaction level and existing problems of HA systems by residents' POE. The findings of this study will give useful information to digital home construction companies to provide user-friendly digital home services for increasing users' satisfaction. One distinctive apartment equipped with home automation systems located in Seoul was selected for in-depth personal interview. The researcher developed a survey instrument and collected the data from 58 residents in January, 2007 who had been living there for more than a year. The results of the study found that critical problems were existed in several systems and they caused a lot of dissatisfaction from the residents. Also, some residents do not use several systems although they need to use them due to the burden of maintenance fee. Further detail findings and suggestions of this study were discussed.

ZigBee기술은 Home Automation, Building Automation 그리고 Sensor Network 분야까지 다양한 분야에서 기술적인 가능성을 가지고 있다. 그러나 ZigBee기술은 WPAN(Personal Area Network) 영역으로 그 범위를 제한하고 있어 Home Automation에 적용할 수 있는 분야가 제한될 수 밖에 없다. 본 논문에서는 ZigBee의 binding기술을 확장하여 home network에 도입하기 위한 방안을 제시하고, 댁외 device들이 home server를 통하여 ZigBee의 device들과 어떻게 binding될 수 있는지를 보이고자 한다. 또한 위의 내용을 기반으로 home network의 automation을 댁외 망으로 확장할 수 있음을 보이고자 한다.

This paper proposes the system model that is more efficient and active than formal home automation system and it can conquer the limits of formal one using intelligent mobile robot. This system uses specialized intelligent mobile robot for home environment and the robot moves around home instead of human. We call the system model to HAuPIRS (Home Automation system using PDA based Intelligent Robot System). HAuPIRS control architecture is composed three parts and each part is User Level, Cognitive Level, Executive Level. It is easy to use system and possible to extend the home apparatusfrom new technology. We made the PBMoRo System (PDA Based Mobile Robot System) based on HAuPIRS architecture and verified the efficiency of the system model.

본 논문에서는 기존 홈오토메이션 시스템보다 효율적이고 능동적인 시스템 모델을 제안하며, 기존 시스템의 한계점을 해결하기 위해서 지능형 이동 로봇을 사용한다. 제안된 시스템은 집안에서 사용하기에 적합하도록 특화된 로봇을 사용하며, 이 로봇은 사람 대신 집안을 돌아다닌다. 이 시스템 모델을 HAuPIRS (Home Automation system using PDA based Intelligent Robot System) 라고 부르기로 한다. HAuPIRS제어 구조는 사용자 레벨, 인지 레벨, 실행 레벨의 세 파트로 구성된다. 이 시스템은 사용하기 쉽고, 기술의 발전에 따른 새로운 가전기기가 나오더라도 확장이 가능하다 HAuPIRS제어 구조의 성능을 검증하기 위해서 HAuPIRS 제어 구조를 기반으로 한 PBMoRo System (PDA Based Mobile Robot System) 을 만들어 실험하였다.
