  • The surface mounting technology of 0402 electric chip part is necessary to fabricate a high density and multi-functional module, but there is a limitation of the technology, like as a bridge and self-alignement. This work estimated SMT processing factors of 0402 chip. To obtain optimum SMT process, we evaluated effects of stencil thickness, shape of hole on printability and mountability. Printability shows best results under the thickness of $80{mu}m$ with circle hole shape and 90% square hole shape. In case of chip mounting process, chip mis-alignment and bridge was occurred rarely in same conditions. In more thin stencil thickness, $50{mu}m$, strength of 1005 chip parts was poor, because of amount of printed solder was insufficient.

  • Currently, due to the development of technology, the industry is proceeding with the development of advanced materials with high performance such as light weight, heat resistance and electric conductivity. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) is an excellent material with high heat resistance, high strength and thermal shock resistance. In order to obtain excellent hole shape in CFRP drilling, we compared the modified drill shape and the conventional carbide drill. On the other hand, we determine the proper helix angle by observing the CFRP surface according to the helix angle at the trimming of the end mill proceeding after the hole machining.

  • For successful deformable part assembly, information about its deformation as well as possible misalignment between the hole and its respective mating part are essential. Such information can be mainly acquired from visual sensors. In this paper, part deformation and misalignment in deformable cylindrical peg-in-hole tasks are measured by using a visual sensing system. First, a series of experiments to measure the position of an arbitrary point are performed. Next, an algorithm to measure misalignment and part shape as part deformation are presented, and a series of experiments on them are performed. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithms and the system are effective in measuring part deformation and misalignment.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of scintillator and collimator parameters that tradeoff between system sensitivity and spatial resolution. The parameters simulated using Monte Carlo program were scintillator thickness, colimator hole shape, septal thickness, and hole length. The results show that the sensitivity increases exponentially upto about 1 cm of scintillator thickness as the thickness increases. However the sensitivity is almost constant when the scintiallator is thicker than about 1 cm. The simulation of collimator hole shape shows that the hexagonal hole gives the best spatial resolution for the same system sensitivity. The system statical resolution is improved, as both collimator septal thickness and hole length increase, however that system sensitivity is rapidly decreased. In conclusion, The optimization of scintillator and collimator parameters using monte carlo simulation may be useful to develop a high-resolution miniature gamma probe.

  • In this study, we investigated plasmon effects to maximize the sterilization of dielectric discharge. We predicted the effect using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method as a function of electrode shape, size, and period. The structure of the electrode was designed with a thickness of 100 nm of silver nanoparticles on a glass substrate, and was varied according to the shape, size, and period of the electrode hole. Based on the results, it was confirmed that the effect of plasmons was independent of the shape of the electrode hole. It was thus confirmed that the plasmon effect depended only on the size and period of the holes. Further, the plasmon effect was affected by the size rather than period of the holes. Because the absorption of light by the metal varied according to the size of the hole, the plasmon effect generated by the absorption of light also varied. The best results were obtained when the radius and period of the electrode holes were $0.1{\mu}m$ and $0.4{\mu}m$, respectively.

  • Wearness has been a major failure criterion in Korean-made rotary blade. However, few studies have been conducted to improve it. In this study, the fundamental data obtained from the measurement of wearness and failure of rotary blade were analyzed to provide a guideline for the design of rotary blades. For the straight part(about 20-23 em from bolt hole) from the bolt hole to bending point of rotary blade, modifications were proposed for improvements, however, for the portion from bending point to tip was made no design recommendations because the failure behavior of that portion was difficult to analyze with the experimental data. The results are summarized as follows. 1. The current V-shape section has to be moved about 5 em toward the bending point of rotary blade. 2. The section modulus at the portion about 5-7 em distant from bolt hole has to be increased about 15-20 %. 3. The V-shape section has to be changed into U-shape to reduce the on account of recieving initial stress in blades. 4. The radius of curvature of the neck(the portion about 5-7 cm apart from bolt hole) has to be made larger to decrease the stress concentration.

  • In this paper, we propose a new technique for filling holes in triangular mesh. First, arbitrary shaped holes are detected. Second, source and target hole patches are generated through triangulation, refinement, fairing, and smoothing. Finally, the shape difference between the two patches is analyzed and a patch with enhanced features is obtained through blending between patches. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is demonstrated by applying the hole filling technique to the triangular mesh model with various shaped holes.

  • A simple procedure to add and remove material simultaneously along the boundary is developed to optimize the shape of a two dimensional elastic problems and to minimize the maximum von Mises stress. The results for the two dimensional infinite plate with a hole, are close to the theoretical results of an elliptical boundary and the stress concentration is reduced by half for the fillet problem. The proposed shape optimization method, when compared with existing derivative based shape optimization methods has many features such as simplicity, applicability, flexibility, computational efficiency and a much better control on stresses on the design boundary.

  • A practical scheme to reduce failure of the PCB(Printed Circuit Board) of a monitor is introduced using deformed mode shape under mechanical shock. When the monitor is given critical shock loads, cracks are commonly initiated at the tip of a hole on the PCB. Accordingly, a deformed mode shape of the PCB is obtained using a FEM code to define a weak point on the PCB under mechanical shock, and then the position and direction of the hole is determined to prevent the failure at the critical mode shape. Also, the stress intensity factor around the weak point on the PCB is calculated to check the possibility of fracture by normal tensile stress. In conclusion, present research is useful to assist the practical design of components-layout on the PCB.
