  • We studied experimentally the angular spectrum of the light emitted from dye Molecules near a plane boundary. It is confirmed that the molecules near the boundary can emit light into the evanescent wave mode, and the light emission with the angle greater than the critical angle is detected with good accuracy. The angular spectrum of the spontaneous radiation is measured, and the spectrum shows contributions from the molecules both near and far away from the boundary. The polarization dependence and the pumping angle dependence are also measured. The experimental results are in good agreement with quantum theory.

  • As a result of study on factor affecting absorption efficiency using the structured packing, Mellapak N. 250Y for the chemical absorption of $CO_2$ that cause global warming due to development of industry, it is shown that Mellapak N. 250Y has lower pressure drop and superior efficiency of mass transfer than 25mm Pall ring. Also, in the absorption process, it produces high efficiency in the increase of load and concentration of absorption liquid and produces low efficiency in the increase of temperature. In the effect of overall mass transfer coefficient for 15% MEA on the temperature variation of absorbent, when absorbent temperature for 15% MEA varied as 25, 50, $80^{\circ}C$, overall mass transfer coefficients were shown as 0.83, 1.00, $0.90kmol/m^3-h-kPa$.

  • In first-order moving-average Cauchy noise, the maximum likelihood (ML) and suboptimum ML (S-ML) detectors are analyzed in terms of the bit-error-rate in impulsive environment. Despite reduced complexity and simpler structure, the S-ML detector exhibits practically the same performance as the ML detector.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the cavitation phenomena in centrifugal pumps through computational fluid dynamics method. NPSH characteristic curve is measured from different flow operating conditions. Steady state, liquid-vapor homogeneous method with two equations transport turbulence model is employed to estimate the NPSH curve in centrifugal pumps. The Rayleigh-Plesset cavitation model is adapted as source term for inter-phase mass transfer in order to understand cavitation phenomena in centrifugal pumps. The cavitation incipient curve is clearly estimated at different flows operating conditions. A relationship is made between cavitation incipient and NPSH curve. Also the effects on water vapor volume fraction and pressure load distributions on the impeller blade are also described.

  • This paper deals with a robust ${\mathfrak{H}}_{\infty}$ controller design problem for waypoints tracking of large displacement unmanned underwater vehicles (LDUUVs) in Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy form. The LDUUV model uses a rudder to control its horizontal motion. We determine the order of waypoints based on their priorities and consider only surge force. A fuzzy controller in state-feedback form is taken and its design condition of is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. A numerical simulation is included to show the effectiveness of the theoretical development.

  • We prosed a distributed fiber-optic sensor system with 10 fiber Bragg gratings, for over temperature protection relay in power systems. We applied Gaussian line-fitting algorithm to compensate the distortion effects in the wavelength-scanned Farby-Perot filter demodulation scheme. Compared with the highest-peak-detection method, the proposed algorithm was proved to minimize the random errors of distorted PD profiles. From experimental results, the overall measurement error was within 1 % compared with the reference thermocouple and the linearity error was less than 0.37 %.

  • Pumps are widely used in industrial plants, energy systems, ships etc. Generally they consume nearly 20% each nation's total electrical energy. The objective of this study is to find performance evaluating method for variable-speed drive pump. In order to evaluate the variable-speed pump performance energy saving rate for the variable-speed pump is applied and compared with that of constant-speed pump.

  • Combined formulation developed for the fluid-particle mixture is introduced to simulate the biocube-fluid mixture flow, which is utilized for sewage disposal. Some tricky boundary conditions are introduced in order to simulate the effect of screen wall and air bubble, which is injected from the bottom of sewage reservoir. It has been shown that a circulated flow pattern, which was observed in experiment, is reproduced from the present numerical simulation. Furthermore, the effect of biocube density on the distribution pattern of biocube is also studied. It has been shown that a biocube whose density is slightly smaller than that of surrounding fluid or neutrally buoyant one are optimal for the uniform distribution of biocube.
