The current study explores the soil-structure interaction (SSI) effect on the potential seismic damage of mid-rise non-seismically designed reinforced concrete frames retrofitted by Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP). An 8-storey reinforced concrete frame poorly-confined due to transverse reinforcement deficiency is selected and then retrofitted by FRP wraps to provide external confinement. The poorly-confined and FRP retrofitted frames with/without SSI are modelled using hysteretic nonlinear elements. Inelastic time history and damage analyses are performed for these frames subjected to different seismic intensities. The results show that the FRP confinement significantly reduces one or two damage levels for the poorly-confined frame. More importantly, the SSI effect is found to increase the potential seismic damage of the retrofitted frame, reducing the effectiveness of FRP retrofitting. This finding, which is contrary to the conventionally beneficial concept of SSI governing for decades in structural and earthquake engineering, is worth taking into account in designing and evaluating retrofitted structures.

Epidermal cyst in the floor of mouth is relatively rare disease. Patients usually present soft and non-tender mass at the midline of mouth floor. Careful history taking and imaging study are needed for the diagnosis and surgical excision is the choice of treatment. We report a case of huge epidermal cyst located in the floor of mouth mimicking plunging ranula, which was successfully removed by transoral surgical excision without any complication. It was diagnosed as an epidermal cyst by pathologic examination.

A five-year-old elk (Cervus canadensis) was presented for necropsy to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Chungbuk National University, on May 1999. The farmed elk was died on day 5 after velvet antler removal. By history taking, the elk didn't show any clinical signs except for watery diarrhea during 2 days. For the purpose of physical examination at the velvet antler removal, blood was collected from the femoral vein of elk with a mixture of fentanyl-azaperone-xylazine ($Fentazin-10^{\circledR}$). Urine was collected from the bladder within 3 hours after died. Hemato-logical and clincochemical values of the elk showed normal ranges. In the microscopic finding, many round and ellipse sarcocystis were identified in the cardiac muscle fibers without any surrounding inflammatory reaction.

This study was done to investigate the ADL differences between before and after home care. For this survey, the Barthel index, an ADU(activities of daily living) assessment, and general history questions were asked. Functional performance, i.e. ADL, was studied in a population a total of 56 men and women aged 65 and older from the city of Taejon. Among the independent subjects, women, 73 years of age and older, married status, 1-2 times taking home care per month, the case answering 'Quite' about satisfactory of home care, elderly dwelling with others and who have helper and spouse, elderly having a snack regularly, are statistically significant. Also ADL differences were found in grooming, getting in and out chair, getting on and off toilet, walking 500 meters on the level. Further studies should evaluate the activities of daily living to predict important disability-related outcomes.

The purpose of this study was to analyze spatial characteristics of Chinese traditional residents. This study was carried out in order to have a clear understanding of how cultures of neighboring countries influence Korean residential history and to grasp an objective view on characteristics of Korean houses by comparing and contrasting the characteristics of Chinese residents. This survey was conducted by observing, interviewing, taking pictures and analyzing the pictures that were taken on the real spot. Additional data were collected by participating the seminars of Chinese experts on the traditional house. The spatial layouts and function of Chinese traditional house were analyzed by using pictures, sketches and data which were gathered by interviewing and observing. The shape of Chinese traditional unit plans of houses is basically linear. By repeating this linear shape in the south.north and east.west side, various shapes are formed as an outcome. tangwu and woshi, the living space of Chinese traditional house are strictly hierarchical.

We experienced one case of pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis in 26-year-old female patient. She had taken antituberculous medication under the impression of miliary tuberculosis on simple chest X-ray at peripartum period. On outpatient follow-up she complained of progressive exertional dyspnea in spite of medication. Through careful history taking and physical examination, high resolutional CT, and open lung biopsy she was diagnosed as pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis combined with incomplete type of tuberous sclerosis. So, we presented the case with the brief review the literatures.

Chronic functional constipation is a common problem in childhood, with soiling a significant issue. It presents a management problem for pediatrician, and parental concern is high. About 5% of pediatric patients is known to have constipation and/or encopresis which is the second most referred disease in pediatric gastroenterology clinic, accounting for up to 25% of all visits. The etiology of constipation was based on initiation factors including vicious cycle concept, genetic factors, psychological factors, dietary influences and histologic abnormalities of colon. Emphasis is placed on the evaluation and management options that are available to the treating pediatrician. Careful history taking is most important to diagnose functional constipation. In addition, diagnostic tests such as plain abdominal radiograph, colonic transit study, anorectal manometry, barium enema were helpful to diagnose the constipation. Childhood constipation can be very delicate to treat. It often requires prolonged supports by physicians and parents, demystification, medical treatment and especially with the child and parent's cooperation.

Accessory hepatic lobe is noted as and considered a rare disease in children. It can manifest with various symptoms and complications depending on the location, volume, type and position of the disease as presented on a child. The patient presented as a 14-month-old girl who was seen with a notable hepatosplenomegaly and portal hypertension. A diagnosis was made after taking an extensive medical history, observation and radiological examinations. The formal diagnosis was a prehepatic portal hypertension associated with accessory hepatic lobe.

By taking a bottom-up "library in the life of the user" perspective rather than a top-down "user in the life of the library" perspective, this paper uses anecdotal evidence from the past and near present to examine the multiple roles the U.S. public library plays and has played as public space in the everyday lives of its patrons. By harnessing "public sphere" theory discussed in Jurgen Habermas's THE STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATION OF THE PUBLIC SPHERE (1989) and by the examining the rich literatures on civic life and institutions that have evolved from it, the author argues that Library and Information Studies discourse has to expand its scope to include research and analysis of "library as place" from a user's perspective if it hopes to develop a deeper understanding of what the public library does for means to members of the communities in which they reside.

This study explores building process of innovative capability through overseas direct investment (ODI) by taking the camera business of Samsung Aerospace Industry (SAI) as a case. SAI with less than 20 years history has pursued an aggressive ODI and developed its own camera models. It acquired Rollei in Germany and Union in Japan in 1995, for acquiring advanced technology. Several factors leading to the success of SAI's innovative cability building were taken into consideration. First, SAI effectively absorbed technological knowledge by exchanging technical personnel with foreign partners. Second, it chose right partners with the complementary knowledge required for advancing its technological capability. Third, it strengthened its competrnce to satisfy the technical standards of the partner dompanies in OEM trade relations. Fourth, it successfully formed a global marketing network in which subsidiary companies plays a central role in each region. Finally, SAI successfully addressed the factors of mutual respect between partners in order to let its partners to be confident in their ventures.
