  • The attitude of observer in the painting of history is to exclude a prejudice and a subjective view of an artist and to introduce a photograph, which is a record of objectivity, in the process of painting. Its ultimate intent is to redescribe the fact of an event's image intactly without any prejudice and to represent the event as a proven evidence that it was. The representation of history based on fact had already been conceived in imagination of renowned artists such as Francisco Goya or $Th{\acute{e}}odore$ $G{\acute{e}}ricault$ even before cameras were invented. What they portrayed was their own truth of reality which is gained through their observation, not a history that have corresponded to political ideologies, for all reliance on a limited tool of representation, painting. Furthermore, history was necessary for 19th century impressionism artists to be represented under proven fact in a neutral perspective excluding all subjective prejudice, not based on the representation with imagination. Edouard Manet in particular reconstited an instant moment on the basis of real proof of photograph without personal prejudice or opinion as if today's photojournalism. The catastrophic series by Andy Warhol and the photographic painting by Gerhard Richter show another role of painting in the realm of art, each of them implying information distortion and abuse by current media and intentional deformation toward history as Manet's painting of history. Today, the representation of an historical event that we experience in the era of the Internet and social networks having a great deal of information already came to be the exclusive property of the cutting edge mass media. Nevertheless, the attitude of observer which is realistic and contemplative in the realm of art is the crucial point in terms of artists' act as ever.

  • Objectives : Considering the indigenousness of Korean medicine, the historical record was first introduced in 1946 as follows; a Chinese person, Ji-chong (知聰), brought 164 volumes of medical books to Japan via Goguryeo (高句麗) in A.D. 562. Since this event happened, Korean Oriental Medicine has been derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine because ancient Korean Medicine originated and was developed in China. The purpose of this study was to investigate the existence and role of Ji-chong in the history of medical exchanges between ancient Korea and Japan. Methods : We studied Ji-chong through ancient and modern historical literatures such as Nihon Shoki (日本書紀), the record of $Shinsen-sh{\bar{o}}jiroku$ (新撰姓氏錄), Korean Medical History (韓國醫學史), Japanese Medical History (日本醫學史), Samguk Sagi (三國史記), etc. Results : We found indications of the existence of Ji-chong and the import of Chinese medical literature to the ancient Korean peninsula by examining domestic and foreign historical literature. Especially, he was closely related to historical assumptions about the Japanese conquest of Goguryeo in A.D. 562, although without objective historical evidence and described only in modern Japanese historical records and Korean Medical History. However, substantial medical exchange toward Japan was accomplished by Korean medicine of either Goguryeo, Baekje (百濟), or Silla (新羅) dynasty until the late A.D. 6 century. Conclusions : Based on the above investigation, the idea that Ji-chong carried medical literature via Goguryeo in A.D. 562 needs to be reconsidered and the role of Ji-chong as recorded in a variety of literature and databases should be amended., Korean Oriental Medicine has been derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine because ancient Korean Medicine originated and was developed in China. • Archival science is prior to explore meaning and role of record management in given environments rather than developing record management methodology. Electronic record environments don't merely mean to exchange record management medium from paper to digital. The most important point exploring in electronic record environments is not management skills or methods, but meaning of records and role of record management in contemporary society. All these days, however, the theories and methodologies has been developed focusing on written records and public records mainly in the deep-rooted influence of positivism. In such situations, the discussions of social memories can explore meanings and roles of record management in pluralistic society. Meanwhile, many articles in archival science has been widespread recognition that records will soon be just memories in terms of objective and neutral evidence. In recently, however, conviction on objectivity and neutrality of records has broken down by the influence of postmodernism on archival science. Therefore this article intends to explore the relationship between record and memory and to argue the roles of archival science for building social memories.

  • Investigations have been started to set the modern history and national spirit to rights after Commissions were established. Those Commissions are established and operated with time limit to finish its own missions. They creates three kinds of records as acquired materials which acquired or are donated for investigation; investigation records as investigation reports; and administrative records that created while supporting organization's operation. The Commissions use more past records to do special tasks asnation's slate clean and uncovering the truth than other agencies. In other words, the commissions take the most advantages of well-managed records, however, their record management environment and operation systems are relatively loose than other permanent machineries. It has three reasons that; first, there is no record management regulations and criteria for machineries that have time limit. This affected each commissions 'systems and 6 Truth Commissions' record management systems are built separately and on the different level; Second, members lack responsibility from frequent sending, reinstatement, change, and restructuring and that makes troubles to produce and manage records; Third, central archives pay less attention to machineries that operated limited period as the truth commissions. The Commissions rather need more systematic control because its records have historical value. To solve these problems, record management regulations have to be prepared first with features of organizations running limited time and commissions' records as acquired materials or investigation records. Furthermore, building up standard record management system for the Commissions, standardizing transfer data, imposing professional record personnel, and setting limits frequent personnel changes would finish practical problems. Besides, those records created to reveal the truth should use for education and research because Truth Commissions are established to set unfortunate history right and not to repeat it again. The records would serve as steppingstone for establishment of the Truth Record Center that does education, information work, publication, and research with the records. The record center would help using the records efficiently and improving knowledge for its people. And, the center should devote people to recognize importance of the records.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate seismic capacity of seismically isolated building according to the earthquake motion record selection method. To analyze the seismic behavior, 20-story building is designed, which has base isolation system. The using earthquake motion record were selected by two categories. The one is a proposed earthquake record according to soil type and response spectrum shape, and the other is a well known earthquake events such as El Centro (1940). The time history analysis results of base isolation buildings be induced difference results according to each ground motion records. Therefore detailed guidelines for the ground motion records selection method must be prepared. And the response of isolation story displacement and shear force show good seismic performance in consideration of the proposed earthquake records.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the current student assessment plan of subject domain and to propose ways to improve it. This study analyzed the history of our student assessment plan of subject domain and overviewed the student assessment cases of several countries. And then researchers discussed the improvement plans of student assessment of subject domain. The results of this study are as follows. First, we need to enlarge the use of detailed subject-ability record space or to assess student's subject-related ability according to subordinate perspectives of subject. Second, we need to establish the desirable evaluation-perspective and to develop absolute evaluation criteria of each subject and unit. Third, we need to diffentiate the scores of differentiated test items or equate the scores of differentiated groups.

  • A tri-spine horseshoe crab, Tachypleus tridentatus (Leach, 1819) was collected from a sandy beach of Udo Island of Jeju during the full moon tides in November 1997. Three spines on the posterior margin of the opisthosoma were characterized indicating that the specimen was T. tridentatus. This specimen was a female with the total length of 49.5 cm and prosoma width of 23.0 cm. Tachypleus tridentatus was the first record from Korean waters. A brief description and figures of the species were given. This finding indicates that Korea is included to the distribution range of the species.

  • The species of the genus Athalia Leach from South Korea are reviewed. Six species are listed, one of which is a new record from South Korea (Athalia tanaoserrula Chu and Wang). In South Korean Athalia, we were not able to find any specimens of A. kashmirensis Benson, while many specimens identified as such were a misidentifications of A. tanaoserrula. Therefore, we think that A. kashmirensis should be excluded from the faunal list of South Korea. A key to the species of South Korean Athalia, diagnosis, photographs of the diagnostic characters, distribution and recorded hosts for each species are also provided.
