  • 'No-An-Dang' in 'Un-Hyeun palace' was using as a guesthouse by 'dea-won-goon' built in 1864. 'No-An-Dang tablet' exhibited in 'No-An-Dang' seems to be made by using the letters which were written by 'Choo-sa Kim Jeong-Hee'. This tablet was manufactured by special processes; wood frame which was made of a Korean white pine was drawn patterns by variety pigment and latticed inside are joined with 3 of horizontal square wooden sticks and 7 of vertical square wooden sticks, then several sheets of the paper mulberry put on this frame and sheets cut along the edge of letter attached lastly. This structure of tablet could cause more conservation problems than only made in wooden structures. Therefore, replica was made and exhibited in bad condition and original one kept in museum storage for effective conservation of artefacts.

  • Lee Dong-won based on the machanism of internal disease founded on Umhwa and Wonki in discriminating internal injury from external. His general idea of discrimination of internal injury from external could be thought as an reinterpretation of the concept from "Neijing", to Triple heater Wonki and ascending and descending of stomach qi. He distinguished between Yin disease and Yang disease and classified into internal and external injury. "Insufficiency of yang brings about cold syndrome." and "An excess of yang brings about heat syndrome." are considered as external infection, and "Insufficiency of yin brings about heat syndrome." and "An excess of yin brings about cold syndrome." as internal injury.

  • Prefabricated Modular Buildings are increasingly becoming popular in the construction industry as a method to achieve financially economical buildings in a very short construction time. This increasing demand for modular construction has expanded into multi-storey applications where the effect of lateral loads such as seismic loads becomes critical. However, there is a lack of detailed scientific research that has explored the behaviour of modular buildings and their connection systems against seismic loads. This paper will therefore present the nonlinear time history analysis of a multi-storey modular building against several ground motion records. The critical elements that need special attention in designing a modular building in similar seismic conditions is discussed with a deeper explanation of the behaviour of the overall system.

  • In this study we reveal that there were positive changes after the practicums of pre-service math teachers, in that, they changed contents of class and the way of explanation in order to enhance students' understanding, and provided opportunities for students to participate in the class. In addition, they made more use of textbooks in their class instead of depending on their experience acquired before the practicums. However, no difference was found before and after their practicums, neither in their review of lessons nor in their use of simple 'question and answer' strategies. In this regard, we suggest continuous researches be conducted in order to enhance pre-service mathematics teachers' teaching ability, especially those which is hard to be acquired in a short period of time. And, reflecting the results of the research, systematic development and operation of the curriculum are required in the teacher training institutes.

  • In the field of ophthalmology, many diagnostic instruments based on optical technology have been developed, such as refractometer, keratometer, corneal mapper, tonometer, fundus camera, slit lamp, laser scan ophthalmoscope and optical coherence tomography. Among them, the refractometer that is used for measuring the refractive power of the human eye has the long research history and various types have been developed. However the efforts to realize more accurate and precise measurement are still in progress. The wavefront analyzer commercialized in recent years is an excellent outcome of such efforts. In this paper, a brief account of the developmental history of various refractometers including the wavefront analyzer is summarized, and the underlying measurement principle is introduced in the view of optics. Finally, the technical issues that should be solved for getting better performance are discussed.

  • After an overview on the temporary situation of the lichenology in South Korea, localities of 95 mac-rolichen taxa are reported for South Korea. In this revised lichen flora of South Korea, 16 species are apparently new to the territory. Voucher specimens have been deposited in the Korean Lichen Research Institute (KoLRI) at Sunchon National University in Korea, and duplicates have also been donated to the National History Museum and Institute, in Chiba, (CBM) Japan.

  • Hua Loo-Keng(华罗庚, 1910-1985) is one of well-known prominent Chinese mathematicians. While Waring problem is one of his research interests, he made lots of contributions on various mathematical fields including skew fields, geometry of matrices, harmonic analysis, partial differential equations and even numerical analysis and applied mathematics, as well as number theory. He also had devoted his last 20 years to the popularization of mathematics in China. We look at his personal and mathematical life, and consider the meaning of his activity of popularizing mathematics from the cultural perspective to understand the recent rapid developments of China in sciences including mathematics and artificial intelligence.

  • Reinforced concrete bearing walls (RCBWs) are one of the most applicable structural systems. Therefore, vulnerability analysis and rehabilitation of the RCBW system are of great importance. In the present study, in order to the more precise investigation of the performance of this structural resistant system, pushover and nonlinear time history analyses based on several assumptions drawing upon experimental research were performed on several models with different stories. To validate the nonlinear analysis method, the analytical and experimental results are compared. Vulnerability evaluation was carried out on two seismic hazard levels and three performance levels. Eventually, the need for seismic rehabilitation with the basic safety objective (BSO) was investigated. The obtained results showed that the studied structures satisfied the BSO of the seismic rehabilitation guidelines. Consequently, according to the results of analyses and the desired performance, this structural system, despite its high structural weight and rigid connections and low flexibility, has integrated performance, and it can be a good option for earthquake-resistant constructions.

  • The use of displacement-dependent rotational friction dampers (RFD) as fuses or interchangeable elements in the moment-resisting frames (MRF) is one of the newest methods for improving seismic performance. In the present study, the performance of rotational friction dampers in MRF has been investigated. Evaluation of MRF with and without RFD models was performed using the finite element method by ABAQUS. For validation, an MRF and MRF with rotational friction dampers were modeled that had been experimentally tested and reported in previous experimental research and a good agreement was observed. The behavior of these dampers in frames of 3-, 6-, and 9-story was studied by modeling the damper directly. Nonlinear time history dynamic analysis was used. It was observed that by increasing the number of stories in the buildings, rotational friction dampers should be used to perform properly against earthquakes. The installation of rotational friction dampers in steel moment-resisting frames shows that the drift ratio between the floors is reduced and the seismic performance of these frames is improved.

  • A 5-year-old castrated male Chinchilla Persian cat weighing 4.84 kg was referred for hematuria. The cat had a history of urethrostomy and bacterial cystitis. In urine culture, Candida glabrata was cultured on Sabouraud dextrose agar. Based on these results, the cat was diagnosed with Candida cystitis. Subsequently, oral administration of fluconazole was initiated. Urine culture was negative at 31 days after administration. This case describes the diagnosis and treatment of Candida glabrata infection of urinary bladder in a cat with a history of urethrostomy.
