  • This research aims to develop cultural products for professional sales after producing creative products utilizing dinosaur characters, which are the representative exhibited item of dinosaur-centered museum. There are seven museums in Korea whose theme is dinosaur. There are three dinosaur museums among them, Goseong Dinosaur Museum at Kyungnam, Mokpo Natural History Museum, and Seodaemun Museum of Natural History. While inspecting cultural products within the museum shops of these three museums, general products occupy more than 80% of all the products rather than products related to dinosaurs, and has a problem that most products are decorative ones. This resulted from that enterprises supplying these products are not professional ones and are irrelevent to cultural industry; as result, purpose of conveying culture through products is lost. This research develops dinosaur characters utilizing computer 3D techniques in order to imbue unique characteristics to dinosaur museums and informing cultural speciality of our country. In addition, this research presented design method of cultural products by grafting traditional symbols onto these characters, and actually produced 11 items of 5 kinds: toys(dolls), clothes(T-shirts, pajamas, socks), stationery(notebooks, memo), accessaries (bags, umbrellas, handkerchief), and others(cups). On the items above, dinosaur characters are variously utilized in form of printing, embroidery, and stickers by using computer 3D technique. A cultural product is a tangible form which could show variety of cultural characteristics of our nation that could spread the culture through the consumers, and such type of purchasing could increase values of cultural industry by creating economic profits; such points are the significance of this study.

  • "Gongchengzuofazeli" was published by the Ministry of Engineering (工部) in 1734, the 12th year of the Yongzheng(雍正) emperor of China's Ching Dynasty. Its purpose was the standardization of building construction and the strengthening of management policies The book records exact measurements of every material used in the building, dividing the building into sections called "dugu (斗口)." It also contains records of the funds that were needed for fair management. Today, it has great historical value because it provides information as to the state of architectural technology and environment of that time. However, the research of Korean architectural historians tends to focus on the "Yingzaofashi(營造法式)" which was written in the Northen Song Dynasty. While the significance of "Gongchengzuofazeli" is widely acknowledged, not enough interest has been garnered to even begin a full-scale translation project. This article, by summarizing in the introduction the basic contents of "Gongchengzuofazeli" and a translation of the first volume in the body, seeks as its purpose to provide data to become the foundation of future research in this area.

  • The history of the Korean lighthouse have been known to be begun from which installed by the purpose of the Japanese invasion of the outside. Modern navigational aid system have configured during the Japanese ruling era since the Incheon Palmido Lighthouse was built in 1903 as the first lighthouse in Korea. But in this regard it needs to be considered more carefully. Busan, as the city of international port and of Choryang Waegwan, had been a center of foreign relations between Korea and Japan since early 15th century. Because that reason, International port facility has been developed for a long time ago in Busan for example lighthouse, breakwater, wharf, jetty and so on. Nevertheless the lack of historical data and basic research related to the marine caused the proper history could not be established until now. In recently the basic translation of Korean Maritime Customs documents started to finish, and a compilation book of old pictorial maps on Choryang Waegwan was issued. As a result, more objective history of Busan Aids to Navigation can be investigated.

  • This article is a reflective study on the 'modern' and 'modernity' in 'Modern Buddhism of Korea' research discourse. First, we raise the issue on how to define and describe the 'modern' in the recent 'Modern Buddhism of Korea' research. We raise some questions about whether there is the concept of "modernity" properly explained and agreed in Buddhist academia of Korea. And we will try to propose its solution. Next, we will briefly review the characteristics of 'modern' and 'modernity' in the flow of history of the West, which have never been discussed in the research discourse of "Modern Buddhist studies of Korea.' We will raise questions about whether it is possible to find a 'modernity' in itself what it is, and is further expected really 'modern' or 'modernity' in Korean conditions on the basis of this review. Finally, this article seeks to reveal what premises must be kept in mind in the 'Modern Buddhist studies of Korea', by critically reviewing researches of "Modern Buddhist studies of Korea".

  • An artificial breeding method was carried out to investigate development of eggs and the early life history of Iksookimia longicorpa. The eggs of the female were obtained by injecting gonadotropin (LHRH) and fertilizingby the dry method in the laboratory. The mature eggs were separate, demersal, light yellowish, and averaged $1.53{\pm}0.07mm$ in diameter. In water temperature of $23{\sim}25^{\circ}C$, the eggs hatched in 50~72 hours after fertilization, and their lengths reached $5.1{\pm}0.23mm$ in total length. On Day 4 after hatching, they averaged $7.1{\pm}0.47mm$ in total length and their yolk sacs were completely absorbed. From 25 days after hatching, they attained a juvenile stage reaching $12.8{\pm}0.49mm$ in total length. On the 100th dayafter hatching, their band patterns and external form were similar to those of adults, and they averaged $38.5{\pm}2.95mm$ in total length.

  • The egg development and early life history of Acheilognathus macropterus from Japan which is an exotic bitterling from China were observed under the controlled water temperature, $20.0{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$. Fertilized eggs are opaque yellow in color and long elliptic globe shaped measuring $2.78{\pm}0.12mm$ in length and $1.44{\pm}0.04mm$ in breadth. The number of egg averaged 151 per an oviposition. The eggs of this species began to hatch about seventy eight hours after insemination and the mean of total length of larvae were 3.8 mm. S form moving of larvae were observed from three days after hatching. The larvae reached at the heterotrophic stage about twenty-five days after hatching. Morphological character and analysis of cytochrome DNA of this species from Japan were relatively similar to Korean but spawned egg shape was different remarkably. Taxonomical research is necessary in the future.

  • The term 'memory' has acquired so many meanings today that it is not even confined to the mental domain any longer, although it is etymologically derived from the Anglo-Saxon word 'gemund', meaning mind. In its most typical sense, memory can be defined as 'the reawakening of the past in the service of present'. But in many papers, the term memory has been used in a various different meaning, which made the interpretation of the research result very complicated. Recently there has been tremendous development in the neurobiological researches with regard to the memory. This paper reviewed the concept, history, and current tendencies of the memory and memory researches comprehensively for the purpose of showing future direction of the memory researches.

  • The amount and diversity of tobacco pathology research in Korea depend on the change of tobacco cultivation area. Also, the tobacco pathology research was highly influenced by the scientific development of general plant pathology during the period from 1970's to 1990's. Since 1990, the rapid decrease of the tobacco cultivation area resulted in significant decrease of the research manpower. Thus, I dare to foretell few novel studies on tobacco pathology in near future. This review summarizes a research history of tobacco pathology, at which it was once flourished in Korea.

  • The breakdown of any critical component of a turbine results in the outage of power plants. Unexpected failure decreases equipment utilization and causes enormous economic losses. Currently, we conduct conservative preventive maintenance for a maintenance period that is proposed by a vendor. In the rapidly changing business environment, reliability-based maintenance is required in order to remain competitive and reduce maintenance costs while maintaining the reliability of equipment. In order to determine an appropriate maintenance period for guaranteeing reliability, we must determine the failure probability by carefully analyzing the failure history of the equipment. In this study, we created a database of failure history for power-plant turbines, predicted the best repair time using the Weibull function, and investigated how the appropriate maintenance cycle can be determined.
